Rosie O'Donnell gets new daytime View

Rosie O'Donnell is expected to be named cohost of ABC's daytime talk show The View, replacing Today-bound Meredith Vieira, sources said.

ABC is expected to make the announcement Friday. A representative for the show couldn't be reached late Thursday.

Vieira is set to take over from Katie Couric as cohost of NBC's Today in September. Couric is leaving Today next month to join CBS Evening News as anchor/managing editor.

O'Donnell will join other View regulars Star Jones Reynolds, Joy Behar, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

O'Donnell is no stranger to daytime talk. She won six Daytime Emmys for best talk show host for The Rosie O'Donnell Show, which aired in syndication from 1997-2002.

The news that O'Donnell will be joining The View was first reported on syndicated newsmagazine Extra's Web site.

Joy Behar is a useless and brainless nitwit whom in my opinion has no place on television to spew her vile diatribe. I refuse to watch this idiot any further and as of now I am locking out this station on my television and refuse to purchase any product that support this show.

The View is one show I watch on a daily basis. I love the group of ladies and enjoy their banter. Contrary to many opinions I have seen, I thoroughly enjoy Star Jones. I was very upset that Meredith will be leaving. The thought that Rosie O'Donnell is coming makes me sick. I detest her loudmouthed personality and don't see she will fit in at all. She will dominate and drown others out. Sounds like they are going to completely ruin it. Such a shame...it was a show I looked forward to each day, one where I interacted with the hosts and laughed out loud alone time after time. If Rosie comes in, I will probably stop watching it.

I, for one, loved The Rosie O'Donnell Show. I'm happy she's on air again.

I'm amazed and pleased all at once. I thought Rosie was done with daytime television, but I guess old habits die hard. It will indeed be interesting to see how much, if any, of her personality is subdued on this show....

Now that Rosie is on The View none of the remaining cast and crew will get enough to eat with her and Star Jones on the scene.

I'm very disappointed with your selection of Rosie O'Donnell as Meredith's replacement. I use to love Rosie and her show until the day that she decided to crucify Tom Selleck on her TV Show. She was relentless and it was totally unnecessary. To his credit, Tom was incredibly polite (I wouldn't have been) It's one thing to make your views known, but what she did to Tom Selleck that day was inexcusable and very uncomfortable to watch. But I suspect that the abnoxous Rosie that she became in that episode was the surfacing of the "real" Rosie. After she left her show she came out as a really mean aggressive human being and that totally put me off of her altogether. Bad choice and an insult to Meredith and all that she stands for and if I were Star Jones I wouldn't be too happy to be sitting next to her either!moreless

Rosie is a comedian. She isn't the right person for this show. They need someone a little more serious for this show.

I am so excited that Rosie will be on The View. I think she will be a valuable asset to the team. Now if we could just figure out a way to get rid of Star Jones. Then my day would be complete

Random Trivia: Elisabeth Hasselback was first catapulted to fame as a contestant on Survivor: Australian Outback. Rosie O'Donnell hosted the reunion show for Survivor: Marquesas a year later.

What on earth could Walters (the producers) be thinking? O'Donnell is an abrasive personality with an acerbic "wit", pushing only her own agenda - that of shoving homosexuality in our faces and demanding "rights". Quite frankly, I don't want to hear/think about what hetero's are doing behind closed doors. And that's where all intimate encounters should occur, along with opinions thereof. The show had, by necessity, a calm, sweet-voiced and serene faced moderator in Meredith. She is the only reason I could watch the show. The other "strong" personalities, and the vapid Elisabeth couldn't hold the show down to save their lives. They are often offensive and defensive, and not in the entertainment sense. Rethink this. You will lose viewers. A lot of us

Bad Bad Choice!!! It's a train wreck wating to happen. Rosie is a real loud mouth, and the View is not all about her style. Maybe it might work, but you can bet a few guests might no lonher be visting the set alla Tom Selleck, after what happened on Rosie's show a few years back. That left a sour taste in many of Tom's fans as well as those of Rosie. I hope that she does not lower the ratings of something actually worth watching on ABC with so many flops this year as well as something good gone bad. Good Luck ABC!!!!

I used to watch the Rosie O'Donnell Show when it was on, and I loved that show. She was very opinionated on her own, all by herself. I can only imagine how it will be with 4 other women. This time, she's not the one in charge, this is not her very own show, and she just can't say whatever she wants. From what we hear, she and Star do not get along very well. Should be intersting.

    I am shocked!!
I guess I will not bother to turn on my TV until my soaps at 12:30. I feel O'Donnell is a big mouth and can't stand her. I never watched her when she had her own show. YUCK!!!!!
I liked everyone else on the view but this will end it today!! What a mistake. Time for a new interesting show. Also tired of the fighting on the show.
