Sarah Michelle Gellar returns to TV

Television has been missing one of its favorite daughters for some time now. Sarah Michelle Gellar, who sparkled as an adorable little vampire murderer in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has pretty much spent her time since 2003 only on the big screen.

OMG a Sarah Michelle Gellar sighting!

But now she's headed back to what made her a big star in the first place.

Sarah Michelle Gellar has been cast in a new HBO project titled The Wonderful Maladys, as reported by Variety. The half-hour project follows a trio of parentless siblings in New York. Gellar's character is described as having "a kind of zealous immaturity--like a drug addict with a to-do list" by the project's screenwriter, Charles Randolph.

The pilot is set for shooting next year, and if HBO likes what it sees, Gellar and Randolph will serve as executive producers.

Since Buffy ended its run in 2003, Gellar has starred in two The Grudge movies, Southland Tales, and The Return. She's also lent her voice to Robot Chicken and The Simpsons.

It would be interesting to see this new project, As I do love Sarah and I'm not 40 or near 50 (lol), but like the others i need to see the plot whats the aim. by the by she also guest starred in Sex and the City, when Carrie went to LA

I know Sarah's a big hit with the 40-50 year old age group. And, hell no, that ain't me. I'm just saying, even if she was in a show about outer space belly dancing and gerbil farming on Uranus, these guys would watch it.I, myself, don't get it. I'm sure she's nice. I just, I dunno. Who cares. Next.

...sorry, I need a little more on the show to sell me on it.

I'm excited to see her back on TV but I need more on this storyline, the vagueness makes it sound lame.

I like sarah and loved buffy, but alot of these stars do not realize the grass is not always greener, they think they can go on and have a movie career, but for every george clooney and jennifer garner, there are 100's of david caruso, topher grace, etc.

You know what's interestingly ironic, is that when Buffy the Vampire Slayer was on the air, most people put it down, and didn't appreciate how good it was until it's unfortunate demise (same with Angel), and now that there are other shows out there who brought back that quality story-telling in the vampire verse, Buffy is finally getting her due. Which I guess I am glad about, but it would've been great for people to notice it when it was on the air, and not just a fading memory.
I hope it works out for SMG, she definitely deserves it!

michael_LB92, I read alot of articles and stuff from around 2002 and 2003 on whedonesque.com and ew.com. You could also probly try searching on yahoo or google or trying other Buffy sites like slayalive. I know there was a big article that was the cover story for Entertainment Weekly that was a big interview with SMG and it said really big right on the cover Buffy Quits. One other thing Buffy related that I hate just as much as what happened with Buffy ending was Eliza Dushku turning down a Faith spinoff to do Tru Calling instead. From everything I've seen, if she wanted to do it, it would have happened. I think she even flat out said she just wanted to do something new and that is why she turned it down when she was doing a panel at Comicon or something like .moreless

That should be interesting but she'll always be Buffy to me.

Yay! I love SMG. I'm surprised she's considering TV again though. Must be a good project then.

I can't wait to see SMG back! She has done a lot more than they mentioned. Also, she's a wife and does have other stuff on her mind. Soon enough she may need to have a couple of kids perhaps. I mean, she has to have some. Great genes need to be carried on.

She also was the voice of April in TMNT. And a lot of other stuff too that they haven't mentioned. But it is really good to see SMG back. Though I don't have HBO, I'll just have to wait for the DVDs.

Does anyone have a source that SMG was the only person who wanted to end Buffy? Even if it is true, I'm glad she did - IMO, Buffy had run its course.

i think this is a wise decision...i will definitely tune in when it airs here in the UK...i've missed her.Buffy is and will be her iconic role(it is my fave show of all time too), but this is gonna get her on the right track again.SHE's BACK IN BUSINESS

I guess the movie career didn't work out too well. The new television project doesn't sound too interesting either. I think it's time to do the Buffy movie with Joss in charge.

Very few actors who rise to fame in tv rarely make it big in the movies. Apparently their fans would rather see them for free than pay the price of a movie ticket. While I'm happy to see Sarah return to tv, I'm not at all excited about her new project.

I'm happy that Sarah's returning to tv, but that show doesnt sound too exciting. HBO has a track record of makingsomewhat decent shows that no one watches. I wish she would have done more Buffy after season 7.

that's great to hear. I loved watching her when she was on Buffy. I don't think she had much luck in getting good roles for movies. The 2 grudge movies were entertaining though.

Wasn't she also in "the air i breathe" ? I'm sure that there were more movies than mentioned in this article. Either way: Welcome back, Sarah! :D

Actually it was her fault Buffy ended. Her contract for the 7 years was up and she quit. I mean she was literally the only actor on the show that wanted it to end. If she wanted to keep doing it, it would have went on. As far as I've read, if it wasn't for her quiting there was no intention of ending the show after the 7th season. Joss Whedon obviously had more stories to tell about Buffy since he is now doing Season 8 and beyond in comics

I'm sick of people who don't give Gellar any credit because she wanted a movie career. It's not like it was her fault Buffy ended. Neither is it her fault that there has been no reunion.
