Sarah Shahi Is Returning to Person of Interest

Sarah Shahi is returning to Person of Interest for the show's upcoming fifth season, TV.com has learned. Shahi—whose character Shaw was shot in the middle of Season 4 but survived—has been on maternity leave since the end of last year. The L Word alum gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl, on March 1.

Executive producer Greg Plageman told TV.com that Shaw's return will be much more permanent than the type of quick check-ins the show did following the character's departure last season. "You will see her very early in the season, and once you see her, she will always be on the show for the remainder of the show," he said.

Although Shahi, who returns to work in September, doesn't yet know the specifics of how her character will be re-introduced, she is excited to give the fans more of Shaw—especially now that Team Machine is in such a dire situation. So, is she coming to save the day? "I hope so!" Shahi said. "Shaw had so much story left in her, that it felt like the right thing to do was come back."

At the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Monday, CBS Entertainment Chairwoman Nina Tassler said it's still up in the air whether the shortened upcoming season will be the last for Person of Interest.

Are you looking forward to Shaw's return?

Then I won't bother watching. Like many people, I stopped watching in season 3 when i realized how much i hated Shaw. I thought about watching again. Oh well, that cements that the show will go off the air.

She might be able to save the show! At least I'll watch it when she's in it. They need to reboot it, it's good actors and the look is original, the story got too complicated and absurd. (The scenes where a dangerous hit man discusses how you're gonna die for 5 minutes anyway is sooo tired.)

I miss Carter. The show went from a good action series with the right amount of sci-fi to a show about superheroes with guns and crazy characters like Shaw and Root. Even Reese lost screen time.

Because Cavizel wanted less action. He is a very religious man and the violence got a bit much for him. It was part of the reason Shahi was given a bigger role and then Acker so that Reese could be toned down a bit.

Her tits do nothing for me. She is a completely adolescent Buffy like character. Its just silly to watch her be so fierce and so dangerous. I could beat her up with my arm tied behind my back. She is tiny, and obviously weak.

If that's true, that is disappointing. It's bad enough Shahi AND her husband and brood are consevrative Republicans, but now Caveziel is deeply religious and realizes what this show is about after four years?!?!
Love PoI but the more I read about the actors the less I like it.

Rawwwwwwwwwr! So glad she is back on the show. I have had a celebrity crush on her since she appeared on the show.

...of course I also enjoyed her acting and character in the show.

P.S. Is this intent to infidelity? Not sure what societies standards are anymore these days :P

Shaw herself said it best: Reese is a scalpel and she is the hammer. Contrasts in the way they operate is very entertaining. Person of Interest is one show with no dull episodes. I hope her reintroduction as a regular character is at par with her introduction.

Without a doubt, the worst possible news. While I'm a fan of Shahi, I absolutely HATED Shaw. Root is far more interesting & a way better fit...and the best guest character, ZOE MORGAN is rarely on. She adds what is needed, an intellectual counterbalance to Reese's brooding brawn. What is remotely interesting about Shaw? The show, prior to Shaw, had intelligence & humor, now it's "Die Hard, the series". Sad, I had hope, for what will obviously be it's final season.

Mixed feelings. I keep wondering about what life will be like for Sara Shahi working TV show hours with two seven month old babies (probably sometimes on set, sometimes at home). Where I am most women take a full twelve months off.

I just hope they stick with the original storyline and stay away from the LGBT relationship between Shaw and Root... I didn't care for that at all....

I thought Root's girl crush on Shaw was a nice touch, but I think they way way way over did it last season. Every single line uttered by Root was some form of double entendre, that they risked ruining it with overkill! (And the OP's not liking the plot line does not mean they are a homophobe. One of the problems with our society is everyone is ready to jump in with toxic buzzwords like "racism" and "homophobe" anytime someone expresses a differing opinion on something)

I actually don't think that there is some sort of killing floor in the society in terms of accusations of homophobia or racism.

Even if I did accept that premise, (remember that it was rofaith4118 who called out the specific nature of the relationship being LGBT) rofaith4118 had the opportunity to explain why s/he didn't care for the storyline in his/her original post and subsequently rather than let people who might jump to a conclusion do so.

If it's that rofaith4118 is uncomfortable with homosexuality or its portrayal on screen, has religious objections to homosexuality, feels like these kinds of relationships are over represented on TV (the reality is the opposite), etc. then fine. State it simply and then It is what it is.

For my part, I really am interested in why rofaith4118 doesn't like about the relationship per se.

Well, I can't speak for rofaith4118, but I did agree with her, and my objections for a romance between Root and Shaw is not because I'm a 'homophobe' but because I rather enjoy Roots character and unique psychology. She is fascinatingly complex, and the embodiment of the machine.
A traditional romance with Shaw would not suit her. Especially given the fact that she has demonstrated her body to be a variable in the endless equations of her mind, often subjecting it to the most heinous forms of violence to achieve an outcome. For her to be genuinely physically inclined toward some one makes her more human. And depending on how human she gets this could be a betrayal of her character.

That being said I like unique shows, and this is one of the best.

I'm less interested in a traditional romance between two women. I know what that is, it's been done before, and is only slightly less boring than the overplayed romance between a man and a woman.

I'm more interested in a genuine relationship between a psychopath (Root) and a sociopath (Shaw). And I hope it is with this perspective that they go forth with these characters interaction. However given that Root is now saying "Shaw is not a sociopath, she cares" I think they are taking the more traditional route and can only hope that the characters do not lose too much of their edge. And that Shaw does not interfere overmuch with Root's relationship with The Machine.

But it's just a bit of anxiety from a fan. I trust the writers and the actors to bring something enjoyable and meaningful to television that does not require me to completely shut off my brain, that they have done so thus far is a marvel in and of itself, given the current tendencies of modern entertainment. So with that I look forward to another season of something rare and endangered, and ultimately do not care about the type of relationship between two characters, only that it is true.

I think relationships aside (it's usually better to have things hinted at and unrequited narratively anyway) -- that the writers have been humanizing both Shaw and Root's characters.

We started off with both as uncaring and mission oriented and now have demonstrated emotions and attachments in and outside of the team.

I don't think that decision has been casual on the part of the showrunner/writers. There was that ep with Shaw and the child and the friendship between Root and Harold (though, Harold, understandably given what he knows of what Root is capable of doing and what she's already done to him, is rather skittish).

I'm not sure what I think of that decision. It seems calculated by the writers to make for a more cohesive team. I think they will still try to show how Root and Shaw make cold decisions others wouldn't but I think if viewers pay attention (as you're doing) they'll see how you can't be a full on psychopath or sociopath and still be so attached and caring (whether its a romantic thing between the two women or what at this point I'd consider bigger picture, the feelings that hold the team together).

I'm a big fan of the show and I'm actually hoping it ends after one more season. Good shows need a timely ending. It makes the whole thing much more immediate and meaningful. Shows like Lost and Dexter suffered massively from not having a timely ending that was built towards with good writing. Breaking Bad on the other hand is an example of what happens when you wrap things up well. Person of Interest shouldn't go on forever and it shouldn't be cancelled obviously, so a good, planned out ending is the best thing for it (or any show).

Also, yay for Shaw coming back!

Lame Lame LAME... I almost quit watching the show because of her stupid Shaw character, and I was THRILLED to finally be rid of her... And now, only half a season later, she´s f´ing coming back again. Why oh why???? Is she really that popular a character? Because she ruined an almost perfect show for me personally... She´s not that good an actor, and her entire role in the series just feels utterly useless. Nothing but a female copy of Reese, only without any charisma.

Yeah IMO the show went down in quality when they killed Carter, but I think we're a minority here. Now it's just a show about superheroes with guns who ballet-dance their way through bullets and only get hit or caught to advance the plot.

Good. The only issue that I have is them going with the whole brainwash angle and her taking over for the blonde Samaritan agent. 13 episodes, especially where they are now in the plot, is not a lot to get her back with Team Machine in any realistic fashion, unless they do a time jump, and I am not too keen on POI doing a time jump because it only would solidify Samaritan's hold on things and make it less likely for team Machine to win out. Plus then you have to add all of the hackers that Root has collected and other plots that they need to tie up. I think that 13 episodes is too short in order to fix where they left things last season.

shaw could also have memory loss which hasten the brainwash but has she starts to remember stuff about team machine the brainwash starts to breakdown this could be done over several episodes and team machine will have someone on the inside.

I have a feeling that THAT is what the writers are going to do when she returns. I've felt that way since it was shown she survived being shot last season. Also, there's an opening on Team Samaritan since Root killed Martine, and (a brainwashed) Shaw would be the perfect fit for that role.
