The hottest thing on television right now isn't government operatives seeking out the truth--it's young, rich, good-looking girls hooking up with young, rich good-looking guys. But the second-hottest thing on television is the aforementioned supernatural hunters, for sure.
And if Sci Fi has anything to say about it, those little spoiled brats better watch out.
The cable network is getting into the increasingly crowded scientific/spooky genre with a full series order for Warehouse 13. Sci Fi produced a two-hour pilot of the series, and today ordered 11 more hour-long episodes for air in July 2009.
Warehouse 13 follows a pair of secret service agents who, after saving the president's life, are "rewarded" with a transfer to Warehouse 13. The big top-secret box holds all sorts of unusual objects that "The Man" doesn't want you to know about, and it's up to agents Pete (Bones' Eddie McClintock) and Myka (Vanished's Joanne Kelly) to hunt down more objects and investigate supernatural happenings. Looking over them and tasking them with various chores is the warehouse's caretaker, Artie (Frasier's Saul Rubinek).
Sci Fi is planning to pair the show with another of its hits, Eureka. Production begins in Toronto this February.
Along with Warehouse 13, other new top-tier programs teasing the paranormal this season include J.J. Abrams' Fringe on Fox and the Jerry Bruckheimer's Eleventh Hour on CBS.
Which of these three are you most excited about? Fringe is off and running, and Eleventh Hour premieres soon--will it be too late for Warehouse 13?

I haven't seen enough of Eleventh Hour yet, but I like Fringe. BSG is just an overrated nighttime soap opera, so I'm eager to see whatever SciFi puts in its place. As for this show being an X-Files ripoff, it's a paranormal-themed show with a pair of FBI agents, but from the description provided here, the similarities end there; as others have pointed out, it seems closer to the Friday the 13th series, which predates X-Files. I guess Lost is a ripoff of Gilligan's Island, then, right? SciFi has pulled the plug early on some decent shows (both the Tremors series and Flash Gordon -- awful in its first season -- were actually improving when they were yanked, although I'm probably forgetting some better examples), but some of the quick exits were well-deserved (Dresden Files was lackluster, and I'm not sure if Amanda Tapping can save Sanctuary, which I really want to like). I'd like for Stargate Atlantis to stay longer or for SG-1 to be revived, but they've both had a good run. As long as this isn't replacing Eureka, I'm all for it, although with the departure of Stargate, I'd like to see an actual space-based science fiction show -- maybe one more Star Trek series?moreless
Ahhhh...Friday the 13th...good memories...Warehouse 13 sounds interesting as a plot, lets wait and see the execution too.
My thoughts exactly Godhood! I thought of Friday the 13th the series too! I loved that show! I watch Fringe and plan to watch 11th hour but I'm hesitant to give Warehouse 13 a chance not only because the genre is the same but that as soon as I got into The Dresden File, SciFi cancelled it so I don't want to get into anything else on their channel (except Eureka!, I'm not letting that go!)
Wanna see it!!
I think it would last longer than a season, dont forget its on the sci-fi channel and they need new material with Battlestar Galactica ending early next year. Plus two quality writers have created it : Rockne S. O'Bannon (Farscape) and Jane Espenson (worked on Buffy and Battlestar Galactica) If it can gather 2-3 million viewers then it can last for several seasons. I see this lasting longer than Fringe.
this will last only one season.
Sounds like the show "Friday the 13th the TV series", where owners of a antique store search for cursed objects to bring back to lock up in the basement vault. I haven't really been impressed with sci-fi channel shows lately, Painkiller Jane, The Dresden Files and the terrible Flash Gordon to name a few.
Cool, I enjoy these types of shows. As other posts have said it seems as though everything is an X-files rip-off. We'll see if that is the case here.
Actually I believe Fringe is an X Files ripoff that actually has a story, and some substance. On topic this show sounds pretty good. I don't watch Sci-Fi much because the only good shows on Sci-Fi are usually reruns of shows like Heroes or 4400, but this looks good I might check it out.
nissaxx : Fringe is an X-Files rip-off (a rather poor one too). Let's hope this is better.
Wow, looks interesting. Hope it isn't too much of a X-files/Fringe rip-off.
Would be very interesting. I hope to see it soon
can't wait to see this show
I can't wait to see it! I hope they keep it smart.
It sounds like it'll be a good show, although the premise seems like it's been done before. If Jane Espenson is involved, I'll definitely check it out. Her work on Buffy was great. Fringe was completely BORING, and Eleventh Hour sounds too much like The Dead Zone which was also boring. We'll just have to wait and see.
definitely anticipating Eleventh Hour, not too sure about warehouse 13 although SciFi has been dishing out a number of successful programs lately so i might give it a try
This looks like it could be a good show. I like that the Sci-Fi channel starts Eureka (and now this show) early, before all the fall season shows. If they ever decide to make full length seasons of these shows, I hope they start them even earlier in the summer. I would like more good shows to watch throughout the year.
Warehouse sounds interesting, while 11th hour seems a littel too depressing, fringe shoud be OK, but the one I am relly looing foward to is dollhouse, although this delay and rewrites does not look good.
Jane Espenson is also a writer and co-executive producer for Battlestar Galactica. I haven't seen Fringe and I don't know much about Eleventh Hour. Warehouse 13 sounds similar in concept to the Sci Fi Channel miniseries The Lost Room. That also featured someone tracking down a series of unusual objects that contain supernatural powers.
Grailwolf, Jane Espenson is writing? I liked most of her work on Buffy, so good to here this. :) Warehouse 13 does look like it could be pretty interesting, if the characters are decent.
I think that there is more than enough room for all three shows. Fringe is a procedural drama, Eleventh Hour looks to be a thriller, and Warehouse 13 is a comedy. And since the first two deal with scientific baddies and the third is about the paranormal, I don't think they're very similar at all. Might as well lump in Heroes, Reaper, and True Blood. In fact, Warehouse 13 sounds like it has more in common with Reaper than with either Fringe or Eleventh Hour. It also reminds me (pleasantly) of the old Friday the 13th series (the TV series, not the movies).Anyway, I can't wait. Jane Espenson is a great writer and I'm sure I'll love it.
