If Scrubs does somehow manage to go on for another season without its creator Bill Lawrence and star Zach Braff, it will probably also need to find a new janitor. Actor Neil Flynn, who plays the master of the custodial arts on the hospital comedy, has landed a role in a promising pilot.
Funnyman Flynn (who nearly matched Bill Lawrence joke-for-joke at the summer TCAs--seriously, this guy is hilarious) wouldn't go far from his new home; the pilot for The Middle is a comedy being set up at ABC. He'll also be in good company as his co-star is multiple-Emmy winner Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond). In The Middle, Flynn and Heaton play a middle-class couple in Middle America trying to raise a trio of kids (presumably the kids are in middle school).
As for Scrubs, the comedy returned with back-to-back episodes last night to decent numbers: 6.8 million total viewers and a 3.1 rating/7 share in the 18-49 demographic. It also returned with positive buzz, as several critics thought last night's episodes are a return to form.
If Scrubs manages to continue a decent performance and ABC renews it for another season, will it even be recognizable? And does everyone agree that Neil Flynn is ready to lead his own show?

If there was to be a spin-off, I'd say Neil would be a must-keep. That kind of ruins it. Also, last two episodes have been less comedy and more drama than Scrubs ever was. EVER. Don't get it how that's supposed to be a return to previous form... I wonder if people you say that even watched the same show.
dude heck yeah neil should get his own show!!! that guy is freaking great!!! the first two episodes were awesome this season!! i am dieing waiting for the rest of the season!!! long live the janitor!!!!
I agree Merlot90, Neil was a good part of continuing to watch Scrubs, not sure it can survive without Zack either. I had lost track of it for awhile, but when Fox showed reruns, took time to catch up a bit. I thank ABC for picking it up at best possible time, even if temporary fill in. I hope The Middle will work out, I love Patricia on tv, I miss Back to You. Scrubs should fare well against American Idol nonfans like me. lol
Oh, a sitcom with a dopey dad with a wife and kids who show how he is the the equivalent of a lovable spleen. Wow, ABC!!! Breaking out the mold again.
I don't think that scubs will miss him that much but Zak and Bill Lawernce would just be stupid.
Oh no!! JANITOR! My god no! He can't leave us! The Janitor was an extremely good character for the show, and he just has to come back to us! Don't think he is ready to leave just yet, sorry :( ... he is capable to run his own show; it's the fans that won't let him.But off course i still love the show, and season 8 premier was superb! “Scrubs†is back in business indeed.
Scrubs needs to end - without Zack Braff alone it would not survive. The Janitor is one of my 2 favourite characters, the man is a brilliant ad lib comedian and I wish him luck in whatever he takes on next :)
Seeing as I hate the character I can only say: Good ridance to bad garbage!
Since I don't want to see Scrubs continue with out Bill/Zach, I think it would be Great to see Neil Flynn in a new show. Plus I like Patricia Heaton so that is just an added bonus!
I still love Scrubs and definatly would watch another season to see if it would still be good regardless of the inclusion of Bill or Zach or "Janitor". In the end, it won't be my decision anyways, but I'd like to see it continue and judge how it would be AFTER I actually saw it. Heheh. As far as can Neil carry his own show - no doubt. He's awesome.
It was time to go. Hope he'll be successful with the new show.
Good luck to him, anything she's been in since ELR has gone belly up.
Not sure about lead actor, but he's good in a supporting comedy role.
I don't want Scrubs to continue without Zach and Bill. Neil Flynn would be excellent leading another show though.
They have to end Scrubs when Zach and Bill leave!!!! Neil is hilarious, the sitcom sounds promising.
Scrubs just wasn't the same last night. And with Neil leaving and possibly Zach Braff, its just not even a show anymore.
Janitor is why I watch the show, if he leaves then there really any reason for me to keep watching.
Huuuuhh... they should just call Scrubs something else.. I mean everyone's leaving. It's not the same show.
Janitor is great on Scrubs. He will be sorely missed when hopefully Scrubs is picked up for another season on ABC if Neil Flynn's pilot is picked up. At least we know that Neil probably isn't going to command a huge salary like Patricia Heaton.
Neil Flynn is a genius!!! I'm so glad to see he will be moving on and won't just disappear! :D
The new season is fantastic so far
Watched both episodes and Scrubs did not disappoint! Glad to see the crew back.
I LOVE THE JANITOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eh, too bad he might leave..
