Season 8 Is the Final Season of Dexter, for Real

Stop me if you've heard this before, but this is the final season of Showtime's Dexter

You: "STOP!"

No seriously! The upcoming season, Dexter's eighth, will honestly, no joke, 100-percent absolutely positively be the series' last. The cable network announced the decision today, touting the show's longevity and draw (its audience has climbed every season) while breaking the good-or-bad-depending-on-how-you-look-at-it news. The surprise factor here is minimal, as everyone and their mom's mom had been speculating that Dexter would be coming to a close this season, because series star Michael C. Hall's contract is up at the end of it. Even CBS CEO Les Moonves recently blurted out that Season 8 would be it for Dexter

The news of Dexter's end comes with a new video peek at Season 8. Take a look at this scene from the season premiere that I call "Deb goes f**king shopping!" NSFW language, obviously, because Jennifer Carpenter is in it:

I counted Deb saying naughty words in 10 of the 14 blocks of dialogue she had in that scene. Someone call the PTC!

The final season of Dexter premieres June 30 on Showtime.

Looking forward to this season but am glad of the end. If this wasn't the last season I would have stopped watching. I'm serial-killered/worst-of-mankinded-out. I loved Dexter when it started but .... well it's enough.

Have enjoyed every episode of Dexter. Looking forward to new shows in the series. Will be sorry to see it end. Mind you, there are a couple of characters I'd like to see bow out before the last ep.

I can't fucking wait for this, but at the same time I'm sad because it's the last season.

That was a damn good clip. Anxious for return, miffed its the final season but glad its going out on a great run. People say "Dexter" has gotten worse but it still hasn't gotten as dumb or repetative as "Castle" or "Bones" that have soo overshot their shelf lives and only survive because the sheep keep dipping at the same trough.

Dexter is by far one of the best shows ever made. PERIOD. Sure ups and downs are excpected. But the outstanding acting and plot twists make this show easily one of the best hands down. I will definitely miss it after it's gone but I will always re watch the seasons over and over as they keep me entertained ever step of the way. I hope it's one EPIC finale. Either way I will be one of the first to buy the box set.

I wouldn't go that far as to say it's among the best show ever made, but it sure is a decent one, so i'm with you on that... It'd better be EPIC

It started out as one of the best shows ever. Then it got worse.

Carpenter has to be the most snubbed actor since John Nobel. Both very talented and know how to make a scene land. I can't wait for this season.

You are absolutely right about Deb the light as opposed to Dexter's Dark Passenger, from the beginning in the flashbacks we saw Harry tell Dex that Deb would be his tether to the world if he ever felt himself slipping. Season 7 was really about Dexter seeing that he can change, he didn't kill Louis, he got rid of the slides, among other things. If he could be rid of his DP and stop killing he would, and he made his first steps of hopefully doing just that and all because of Deb.

""You are absolutely right about Deb the light as opposed to Dexter's Dark Passenger, from the beginning in the flashbacks we saw Harry tell Dex that Deb would be his tether to the world if he ever felt himself slipping."" I AGREE.

""Season 7 was really about Dexter seeing that he can change, he didn't kill Louis, he got rid of the slides, among other things. If he could be rid of his DP and stop killing he would, and he made his first steps of hopefully doing just that and all because of Deb."" I DON'T AGREE.

If someone changed in season 7 was deb. She was the one who had to sacrifice the most. She basically gave up her work, her convictions and even her sanity for Dexter in that finale.

Now she's a trainwreck, which makes sense after what she had to do. I really believe that dexter in the last seconds of the finale realized that it was indeed her sister the one who was really willing to give up everything for him. That she was the only person who really accepted him. And the most amazing thing is that she was always right there BUT...

LET'S BE CLEAR. I don't want the writers to have debra in the possition of "I know that dexter won't change, so I'll have to change for him because I love him". NOOOO FUCK NOOO I DON'T WANT THAT I WANT A REDEMPTION STORY... But fortunately, by looking at the footage that showtime recently released, I can tell that she is really mad at him which makes sense and apparently the writers are heading into this direction. Hopefully.

Dexter has to be the one to change. The story like I said before has to have a journey. It would be ridiculous to have him stay in the "I'm a serial killer" stage forever because... what's the point of the story if that happened??...
Dexter has to take full responsability either by him or for deb.

Again, sorry if my english is kind of lame. :)

Jennifer Carpenter has been the one constantly good thing during Dexter's 8 season run. I can not wait to see how it ends.

It takes serious skill for someone to be able to say "f*ck" in so many ways. Give Carpenter an Emmy already.

Finally they announced it. Last season they did a great job with beginning the end, it would have been a shame to to put it off.

Wow, Jennifer Carpenter is simply amazing and I cant wait for the final season though it will be sad to see the end of such a great series!

The fact that Jennifer Carpenter has never been nominated for an Emmy is a disgrace. She ups her game every season. Come Emmy time, if her name is not on the list, you know that the Emmys are a joke.

i wish someone rewatch the whole 8 seasons and make a compilation of every single nasty word deb said .. and put them in one video
it will be a great mixed tape/video for someone you hate ..

Oh man I am just trying to imagine that? How long do you think it would be all together? I mean each season could add up to a half an hour to an hour of every foul word and phrase on their own!

If cut at a fast pace, I could probably get it down to an hour for all 8 seasons. Unless I'm completely underestimating it.

You can say what you want but Dexter is one of the most unique characters ever to come along - thank you Jeff Lindsay. There's really not all that much left to tell and I think we'll be okay as it ends. Last season was pretty good but with some amazing moments to remember. I didn't really care for the ending as they crossed that line into, "Okay, we killed someone who wasn't a bad guy, get over it." - even though they probably won't. And LaGuerta wasn't the horrible character most say she was, she was okay. I won't miss Dexter as I have eight seasons to relive whenever I want and I'm just about to watch season two all over again - thank you Jaime Murray...

Very good scene. JC is awesome. I loved season 1 and 95% of season 2 (hated the ending). I enjoyed seasons 3-5. (Silly, but still more entertaining than all the non-cable shows). Season 6 was just WTF!? I have mixed feelings about season 7. The Dex-Deb interaction was pretty great, but the rest was really weak. The season was held up by how great JC was. It really turned into "The Deb show". I think it's time to end it. I have a lot of confidence in the two main actors' abilities to pull it off, but I'm not convinced that the writers have what it takes to come up with a worthy ending.

By the way Deb is behaving i think she may be on drugs as well as booze - her mannerisms seem more like a drug user than an alcoholic

Whoa s***. This scene is so intense!
I really hate to see Dex end after seeing such a phenomenal season 7 and becoming so involved with these characters over the entire series (maybe a little too much...slight obsession) but as long as we get an ending that doesn't leave a whole bunch of loose ends, than I'll be ok!

I fully expected something like this, but I still hope Deb can get past the whole "You ruined my life and made me betray my principles, so I hate you" bullshit in 3-4 episodes MAX.

Dexter killed his biological brother for you, Deb. You're not the only one who has sacrificed in this fucked up sibling relationship. Now get your shit together and help your serial killer brother vivisect some bad guys. (Just to be clear, I fully DON'T expect that to happen.)

Besides, does LaGuerta even count as a human being?

Deb is the most emotionally unstable character I think I've ever seen on television. They way I see it, this pretty much topped it off for her. I don't see it ending well, honestly.

And LaGuerta is the farthest thing from a human being. Her death made fans everywhere shout with joy.

The only different was, WD was actually a depressing scene because of Carl and Maggie and Rick and Baby. These were my facial expressions.

WD: :( *Rick's reaction* :'O
Dexter: *Deb shoots LaGuerta* :O "Whoa WHAT?!".... *LaGuerta Dies* :D

I can't believe it took Laguerta 7 seasons to die. They got the message from the fans with Lori.
Flag
Depressing though that scene may have been, I was still doing a Charlie Brown happy dance in my mind. When LaGuerta died I blurted out a very savage "YEEEEEEEESSSSSSS!"

Ok,Dex and Deb knew each other from childhood. Brian was his brother by blood yes,but he knew the guy for short period of time. And unlike Dexter, his brother was crazy. I know, they did the same thing, but Dex is "doing good" by killing only killers, etc.
Reply
Flag
They dealt with Deb's initial disbelief of Dexter being a killer quickly last season, too. Let's hope they'll skip that worthless drama as fast as they can. But I don't have much hope either.
And: I know it sounds weird but imagine LaGuerta in Blade Runner. She would be like the most obvious replicant (some early model not capable of imitating human nature). Nah.. she ain't human.

But that aside, glad to hear it is final season and hope for the best. Seems good,if it's only gonna be about Dex and Deb and no support whatsoever, because support act sucks in Dexter nowdays(Quention,Batista, his sister,....)

Aside from the inconsistent season 6 (which I liked more than most), I have loved this show, and this last season was definitely thrilling, regardless of whether or not you're a long-time fan, with Deb finding out and seeing the fall-out for that. So I am looking forward to seeing how this show tackles its ending and have enjoyed the entire ride.

This is the only show involving cops / murder that I truly like. Even with a bad season amongst them all, it's so superior to any network show. Will miss it for sure but 8 seasons is a great run. And yeah, Deb looks ready to completely unravel, haha.

Season 7 was amazing, and hopefully Season 8 follows that path. So Long, Dex.
