Seeking a Haircut for the End of the World: TV's Best Apocalypse Hair

When J.J. Abrams' newest science-fiction show, Revolution, first hit the air, some viewers complained that the most unrealistic thing about the post-apocalyptic drama wasn't the power outage that took down the whole world, but Charlie's perfectly coiffed mane. Little did they realize that Revolution is just one of a glorious line of apocalyptic shows that feature(d) locks so lustrous you'd swear there was an entire hair-and-makeup department hidden within those smoking ruins. In the gallery below, we've collected some the best-looking apocalypse victims TV has ever seen; name your personal favorites in the comments!

Love this article, it's something we always comment about when watching the Walking Dead or Falling Skies etc. If I were in an apocalyptic situation it would only take about 12 weeks for me to look like a wild woman of borneo with grey hair, I wouldn't event want to think how I would look after a year. I'm always impressed with how good their hair looks.

It's funny that this should come up. (For the record, my vote's with "Jericho".) I know it isn't TV, but my only quibble about the fantastic movie "28 Days Later"... (Spoiler)

I thought that the woman's hair at the end of the movie looked a little - OK, a LOT - too processed and styled, considering it was something like 28 days AFTER 28 days. I haven't seen the movie in a while, but I definitely remember that.

Good article. I don't get annoyed by this since many such shows and movies beautify their actors to look more pleasing for the viewers.

My most favorite is Kate (Evangeline Lilly) from Lost.

I loved that angle. Congratulations for the article. And as I guy I always thought women naturally had great hair, and all that came effortlessly... We live and we learn, and next time a girl appears on a date with magnificent hair, I promise I'll compliment her on her hair care and dedication.

As for the TV world, seriously now, I guess we get used to a certain aesthetics for (mostly) American TV shows, and that includes an artificially clean visual, which includes at least acceptable hair. We get so much used to that, we'd have serious problems if they showed regular-looking people with regular teeth and regular hair. No matter how much we'd applaud the showrunner for his or her artistic integrity, we'd probably end switching channels.

None better than Dark Angel's Max/Jessica Alba. Of course in a quasi-post apocalyptic world it clearly pays to have a sugar daddy.

I'm sorry but I watched Lost and the only time those women washed their hair was when they stole the Others's village and ransacked Desmond station.

Also, The Walking Dead's hairs go from as greasy as Maggie's to as dirty as Daryl's and as short as Carol's so nope, you can't convince me Revolution is doing it right.

Dark Angel's only kind of post Apocalypse, the world has almost completely come back from all the computers going down, (that's what happened if I remember correctly) there's just parts of the city that are sectioned off, not everyone's paper work is up to date, and the police don't have as much of a presence.

I'd opt to spend the apocalypse in Jericho.

It's like there was something in the water that made alot of the residents insta-hot (Thinking specifically of Heather, Bonnie & Emily)

My two favorite haircuts belong to Jessica Alba and Summer Glau. Both actresses look gorgeous. I still can't believe Fox cancelled both Dark Angel and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
