USA Orders a Series Based on the Film Shooter

Ryan Phillippe will put his marksmanship to the test in USA's Shooter. USA has ordered a 10-episode series based on the 2007 film starring Mark Wahlberg (which was inspired by Stephen Hunter's novel Point of Impact). Phillippe will take over for Wahlberg as Bobby Lee Swagger (editor's note: HA HA HA), a former Marine sharpshooter who is framed for trying to assassinate the president. House alum Omar Epps will co-star.

The series is a collaboration between USA and Paramount TV, which produced the 2007 film. John Hlavin wrote the pilot script, and will executive produce with Wahlberg and Wahlberg's Ballers producing partner Stephen Levinson. Phillippe also has a producing role.

Shooter is just the latest in a stream of movies-turned-into-TV show series. CBS premiered Limitless this fall, Rush Hour will air next month and the network has a Training Day remake in the works. ABC's take on Uncle Buck is also on the way. Meanwhile, NBC has a Taken series and Cruel Intentions reboot in the works. Fox has had the worst luck with the concept, ditching Minority Report earlier this year and passing on an Urban Cowboy reboot.

No premiere date has been set for Shooter.

This doesn't really sounds like a good idea to me but I've been pretty happy with most of USA's shows over the last several years so, sure, why not.

Cool! Shooter was the last Hollywood action movie I liked...
No idea what the series will be like though.

I liked the film and I liked the ending. Not sure how I feel about seeing the film in 10 parts unless maybe they are continuing from the end of the film.

The Shooter film was kind of slow to me. But then again, I've only seen it once.

How many people can this guy shoot before it gets boring? I say 3 tops.

I have no need of firearms! I'm the weapon! The Master of Sinanju!

Also, Sinanju seems to get you into young Cpt. Janeways' bed, so kudos for that alone.
Remarkable ideology included:

Bob Lee Swagger's reaction:

I'll take that bet, I say a nice round number of 10. Ooo, this could be a thing, we could take bets as to how many people get shot per episode.

Or how many episodes until someone shoots this project down. I'll take 3 on that too...

I dunno...has USA ever killed a show that quick? They seem to be extremely patient letting everything finish its first season (keeping in mind USA seasons are typically only between 10-16 episodes with first seasons usually being on the shorter end of that spectrum).

I think it would be closer to 5. Being that it is USA and they tend to give shows a little bit more of a chance than networks do.

In all seriousness, I really do hope it works as a show. We need more straight up action style shows, I am starting to get warn out by the Comic based ones. It was one of my favorite books and the movie was all right given that Marky Mark had to act like a tough guy in it, which personally, I always find hilarious.

Ah I completely must have glossed over that Philippee is the cast. That isn't bad. He was good in The Way of The Gun.

Don't know about Jessica Jones(on the shelf so to speak), but Daredevil was great, I hope they keep up the level of the first season during its run. It's those bland, youth oriented network shows I'm growing sick of. Dark, dense and violent is just my taste...
Shooter: isn't the article about Ryan Philippe been cast for BLS? I could be wrong, but that would mean they make him even softer, more boy-ish than Whalberg... and without Mark's sillyness. Not judging here, but o boy... there is a very real possibility that it's going to suck big time. Let's see, I will check it out. Maybe.

Preacher looks interesting, I have no idea what the comic is about. But it looks like it is going to be great. I think I am just getting tired from the Network Comic book shows. I would like a bit darker, that is why I like Jessica Jones and Daredevil.

Shooter was an all right movie, it was a bit before Marky Mark started taking tough guy roles. I just wonder who they are going to get for the role. I would kind of like the guy that plays Snart in Legends.

YES! More of those, less comic-book adaptions. Or at least BETTER comic book adaptions, I'm thrilled for the coming Preacher adaption.
As always, the novel PoI was better, but the transition to another period was well done IMO and "Shooter" had so many cool scenes, one of my favorites:

Marky was ok, sure, Michael Fassbender would have been nice, but hey, at least he was (intentional and unintentional) funny.
