Showtime Renews Nurse Jackie for Season 5

"Showtime, give me five seasons of Nurse Jackie, STAT!" ...is exactly how I would have made the following announcement if I were a corny studio executive. The pay-cable network renewed the half-hour dramedy for a fifth season today, eying spring 2013 for the show to return. The Season 4 finale is scheduled to air on June 17.

But wait! That's not all! Showtime has also hired former Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips to take over operations on Nurse Jackie. He succeeds co-creators Linda Wallem and Liz Brixius.

Nurse Jackie has been polarizing since its debut, and even on the news of its announcement, my Twitter feed had equal parts, "Good call, Showtime!" and "WTF R U doing Showtime?" Season 4 may have been an uptick in quality, but the series isn't exactly jumping out as required watching for Showtime, which is in the process of building up its brand again.
