Today's a good day to be a show on Showtime, as the cable network has handed out renewals for three series, and Californication, Shameless, and House of Lies are all doing the happy dance as a result. The news finalizes the fates of Showtime's current slate of scripted series.
Details of the renewals (episode counts, premiere dates, etc.) haven't been announced, but Californication will return for Season 6, Shameless will enjoy a third season, and new comedy House of Lies will survive to see Season 2. All three series are currently airing on Sunday nights.
House of Lies has gotten off to a good start and has seen its audience increase since its debut. Showtime recently touted its performance head-to-head with the (sort-of) premiere of HBO's Luck, as the comedy beat the new horse-racing drama in total viewers.
Showtime's faith in Californication is admirable. The show hasn't pulled in more than one million viewers since the Season 4 premiere, though Season 5 is outperforming Season 4. Shameless has seen series highs in its second season on the air.

I've been meaning to get into Shameless (maybe over reading week), and House of Lies is okay if not for some of the super awkward sex scenes, they just get weird.
Acrobit, maybe you should give it another try, the creator decided season 5 couldn't happen without some big changes and some of those changes have addressed your gripes. Californication can go a couple more seasons easily, Hank is a great character.
I haven't seen Californication in over a year. I like Moody and Runkel and his wife, but Moody's family just gets on my nerves. I'm tired of the emo-adjacent, whiny, moody, judgey daughter, and I'm tired of watching him crawl back to her and her mom over and over. I get that he should try to be a better person, but when he actually succeeds with that, the show ends, so are we really supposed to watch him screw up and beg forgiveness every three episodes? Over it.

I'm a big fan of californication so youpi ! I watch house of lies but I don't really see how gratuitous sex match with management consultants : the mix feels weird but the show is not that bad so the renewal is good news.

don't watch but glad to see shameless and house of lies get renewed. Shameless is great and I really enjoy house of lies. (for the record I don't watch crap shows like New Girl but still like house of lies). I think it's a fun show, and I definitely want to see where it goes. Could definitely get even better.

I am most excited about Shameless, i have a weakspot for comedies that puts the lower class in a chaming light, like My Name Is Earl and Raising Hope also do.

Shameless and Californication are good i prefer the original Shameless it more funny and the story line are the same in the uk and us
I love Shameless, so I'm happy! Besides, it has evolved so much as a series: there is great character development, progression in the story lines and a greg mix between drama and humor. Plus, it shows that you can set yourself apart from another great series ( the original Shameless)..... this is how you remake a show!
I've never seen Shameless or Californication, but House Of Lies did NOT deserve a renewal. The numbers are coming in, but as far as I'm concerned the show is absolute trash. Don Cheadle needs to continue his good work in movies. I've seen all the episodes so far, and I tried to like it, but the show sucks. Yes, despite Don Cheadle. Despite Kristen Bell. It still sucks. The show appeals to our baser instincts and that is why people are tuning in. With respect to plot it's a mess and the characters are horrible.
I honestly don't know what people see in the show. But then again, people love "New Girl" which I hate as well, so maybe I'm missing something.
I haven't tried House of Lies yet (which should tell me something), but I do hate me some New Girl, so we may be on the same page.
I'm very happy for all three shows.
Californication, seriously? That show is trying way too hard. Should have ended after season 4, if not season 3.
I'm happy for Shameless though! I love the US version, the characters are very likable although I'm not sure yet if I like the new extreme weirdness of this season (an airplane wheel case right in front of Sheela?)

Californication is a gem. The only series I care about. Hank Moody is one of the most complex character I ve seen in years.
i am pleased that Shameless is returning. im even more pleased that it is no longer using the British scripts and that it is branching out on its own. I still think that William H Macy was the wrong choice for Frank
I despise Frank and I think he needs to get his ass kicked way more than he does, but I think Macy plays him great. And that's coming from a guy that hated Fargo.
It's likely because I haven't tried the UK version yet. That always works out better for me.
I have been watching HoL but I am really not that attached to it, and I don't care about the others either

I heard Californication's good but haven't started watching it. Just started watching Shameless and its pretty dang entertaining, I just think they try to hard to be dirty and adult. Sucks that I don't get Showtime on TV though...

Good news for all 3. None of em are favorites of mine, but they are all shows I watch on and off. House of Lies hasn't been as funny as I'd hoped, but it's still pretty cool. I've gotten a little lazy in keeping up with Shameless, but I do plan on catching up soon. Californication was actually on my cut list for this TV season, but I ended up watching it anyways and it's been okay.
I'm excited for all of them, but most of all for Shameless.
Sweeeet! Californication has some of the best characters on tv, but it seems to have been flying under the radar for the past couple seasons so I was a little worried about it. Shameless is also pretty awesome. I'm still on the fence with House of Lies.
Shameless and Being Human US are the only good us remakes and i love shameless!
All three are good shows , i did prefer the UK shameless tho , anyone know if that is returing for another season?
