Showtime Renews The Big C for Season 3

THE BIG NEWS
... Spoiler alert: Cathy Jamison will not lose her battle with cancer for at least another season! Well, probably. Showtime renewed The Big C for a third season today, with an order for ten episodes that will begin airing next year. The comedy about a woman fighting cancer (hilarious!) will wrap up its second season later this month. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Kevin Smith's Secret Stash, which isn't about pot or late-night snacks, will be seen on television. The reality show is set at Smith's comic-book store in New Jersey and will attempt to "capture the world of the neighborhood comic-book store and fanboy culture." Also getting the green light is JJK Security, another reality show about a family-owned private security company in Georgia. Looks like it's all downhill for AMC from here. [NY Times]

... You're going to have to wait an extra week to hate your teenage daughter. Fox has delayed the start of its new comedy I Hate My Teenage Daughter from November 23 to November 30. The reason is apparently that the 23rd is the day before Thanksgiving. Whoever scheduled that in the first place should be fired... out of a cannon. There's no room for these kinds of mistakes in Hollywood. [Deadline Hollywood]

... No more Spartacus: Blood and Sand on demand for you, Netflix subscriber. The premium cable company will not be renewing its contract with Netflix's streaming service, which means there will be no more stream-able Starz content after March of next year. You're going to have to get your fill of shirtless men, bouncing boobs, and gratuitous violence somewhere else. Like, maybe your real life for a change! [NY Times]

THE CASTING NEWS
... Zooey Deschanel may not be the most attractive woman on her new show, at least for one episode. Fox's New Girl is hiring Katie Cassidy (Supernatural, Melrose Place) as a guest; she'll play a hot chick who Jess' (Deschanel) roommate has eyes for. [E! Online]

... In un-casting news, Stacey Dash (hubba hubba) is leaving VH1's Single Ladies to be closer to her children. [EW]

THE REST OF THE NEWS
... TNT is developing a series with Forest Whitaker called H.I.K.E.. The drama follows a strong female cop who works for the "Home Invasion Kidnapping Enforcement" division. Talk about a forced acronym. [TV Guide]

... Kal Penn (Kumar of Harold and Kumar Do Things) will star in a new comedy project for NBC that's a lot like the rest of the current comedy projects at NBC. The untitled show is a single-camera workplace comedy (like 30 Rock, The Office, and Parks and Recreation) set in the offices of The United Nations. That's a stereotype goldmine! [Deadline Hollywood]

... Scrubs and Cougar Town creator Bill Lawrence is at it again, this time developing a project at CBS. Unfortunately, details about the workplace comedy are being held hostage, so we'll just have to guess what it is. How about... a mockumentary set in an ice cream parlor in Alaska? Sure, that sounds good. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Audrina says Audrina won't be back. It's so adorable how she makes it sound like it was her choice! [The Daily]

I love Kevin Smith. I love AMC. But based on the little that I've now read about it, I really don't care for the premise of the reality show. I can understand the reasoning of AMC's new turn into reality shows: they've been struggling with money regarding scripted shows like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and The Walking Dead. I can also understand that AMC originally was created for movies and the movie business, which Kevin Smith is a part of. But a reality show about his Secret Stash? Eh. The security show sounds blah too.

If Bill Lawrence created it, it's probably a quality show. I'll check it out for sure.

Audrina won't be back?! Does that mean all the Laguna Beach spin offs are done with?! I sure hope so.

personally, i think scheduling a show about hating your family premiering before one of the biggest holidays when people hate their family is pretty fitting. also, how can Stacey Dash leave a show where she is the mainest main character? i'm a white dude, but i watched it just because i liked her. now i don't give a crap lol
