Showtime Renews The Borgias for Season 3

Awwwww yeah. The pope will continue getting his freak on! Showtime has renewed its period drama The Borgias for a third season, promising 10 more episodes sometime in 2013. The show is currently in the midst of Season 2.

The Borgias follows Rodrigo Borgia (Jeremy Irons), the cunning pope who may have done some not-so-nice things to get the funny hat, and his family's struggles to maintain the power that comes with papacy. The series was created and written by Neil Jordan, who's also made some pretty great movies (The Crying Game, The End of the Affair, and one of my favorites, The Butcher Boy).

The renewal means all of Showtime's dramas will back for more next season—Homeland, Dexter, and Shameless have also been renewed for additional seasons.

The Borgias is my favorite TV show. The cast is amazing and the stories, while not accurate historically, are intriguing, wonderfully acted and so lushly filmed that I can't wait for season 3 to begin. I'm immensely glad Showtime has provided its audience with this beautiful piece of entertainment.

I'm happy that the Borgias got season 3 but only 10 episodes? come on. with the money spent on the sets and props already do 13-15. And YES, Juan is back more cowardly than ever in season 2. So glad he has to have the painful medical procedure done. I only wonder if he gave it to his "wife" who's with child back in Spain. Ah, Cesare, the man of my dreams. I'd tell him my sins anyday. Michelleto - he's got something going on w/Friar Fireburner. Lucretzia is gorgeous and she should do as her mother says! LOL. After all, if a child is born it would be all in the family. I watched the Tudors and I'm really hooked on this show too. I thought The Tudors should have gone on to Elizabeth but it was really all about Henry. I hope since I'm PAYING CABLE FOR THIS SERIES that they keep it going and don't cancel it until the death of the Pope.

Super glad but wondering how the heck they're going to portray Lucrezia's second marriage considering they killed her second husband about four episodes back?

Wait....where are you? In the USA she's had 1 marriage that ended and she hasn't been married again. She does have a child but that's by Paolo, her 1st husband's horse caretaker she fell in love with.

YES!! The Borgias is a really good show, and season 2 has had a great start. So happy that it has been renewed for another season.

Extremely happy about that, my favorite character Miguletto (Sean Harris) is so dastardly. Of course, he can't compare to the sinfully decadent Jeremy Irons. Very smart show, entertaining and always suspenseful.

Juan still needs to be killed by Cesare and Gioffre should be a major player in the coming seasons, if the show is around long enough. Juan is killed fairly soon, according to history. Gioffre becomes one of the most hated and tyrannical of the Borgia family, so I would hope he gets re-cast in the coming seasons.

Thx, Joostin, yeah, I knew what SHOULD happen according to history, but didn't know if the writers had decided to focus on Roderigo, Cesare, and Lucretzia. I would have thought we'd have at least seen a bit more of Juan and Gioffre at least in passing.

Lol, yeah I am just taking a wild stab at it since the writers have been fairly good about sticking to the version of history we know...But if the Borgia's were outsiders, is history really that accurate? Church probably made up stories to portray them in such a way. Wouldn't be the first time the Church has made up a story...hiyo!

So have Juan and Gioffre left the show?
