Friday afternoon at the TCA press tour was set aside for Showtime, and the cable network used its time to make a slew of newsworthy announcements, including extending its hit comedy Weeds for two more seasons.
Weeds, starring Mary-Louise Parker as a single suburban mom who gets into the drug trade, will be back for its fifth and sixth seasons, says Variety. Each season order was for 13 episodes.
Showtime is also working on a spin-off of The L Word, which concludes its series run next year. Details on the new show are still under wraps, but it will focus on one of the female characters from The L Word and chronicle her life moving forward.
The cable network also officially announced a series pickup for the new Edie Falco (The Sopranos), ordering 13 episodes. The comedy, which stars Falco as a busy New York nurse with an equally frantic personal life, has also been given a name--Nurse Jackie.
Penn & Teller: Bulls*** was also picked up for a seventh season, and Diablo Cody's The United States of Tara will debut in early 2009.
