Simon Cowell has decided to walk away from the highly successful program to launch a TV and entertainment empire alongside Topshop's Sir Philip Green, The Daily Mirror claims.
Having spent five years on The X Factor's judging panel, the music mogul has apparently announced that this year's series, which begins in August, could be his last.
The news comes just two months after Cowell hinted that he plans to leave his hit US reality show American Idol because of scheduling conflicts.
The X Factor, which discovered multi-platinum selling singer Leona Lewis, will apparently continue in his absence with Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole becoming the face of the show. Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh are also expected to remain on the judging panel.
"He has found The X Factor increasingly draining and it leaves him little time for serious business. Now he's decided this will be his last series and he's moving on. In future, he will have a more overseeing role," an insider has said.
While an X Factor spokesperson is yet to confirm these claims, in an interview about his plans to depart from American Idol the star admitted: "I can't imagine not doing Britain's Got Talent, and I can't imagine not doing X Factor."
So what is it Simon, will you be back next year or not?
