Smallville: The Mack is back

The CW may have avoided a major disaster with one of its longest-running properties with what many considered to be a must-make maneuver.

Actress Allison Mack will be returning for Smallville's eighth and (likely) final season, according to TVGuide.com. The blonde, who portrays Chloe Sullivan on the teen superhero drama, has signed a contract to stick around for one last year, the site reports.

Mack's participation in the upcoming season was questioned after a rash of defections from the show. In early March, news broke that actors Michael Rosenbaum and Kristin Kreuk, who play Lex Luthor and Lana Lang, respectively, were both leaving the show to pursue other opportunities. (Rosenbaum made it official two months later.)

In early April, Smallville creators and producers Al Gough and Miles Millar announced that they too were making this season their last, which put a bit of fear in the hearts of Smallville fans.

It's unclear exactly what terms were made to keep Mack around, but being one of the last remaining original characters certainly gave Mack something to stand on when negotiating a new contract.

Smallville concluded its seventh season last night. The show will return next fall.

I think it wold be a real lost for the show if youall lose Miss Mack had left the show. I think the show should keep on going because there so much they havn't even begun to reveal like when superman met the men from outerspace And when he stop the torpeto from the sup.

thats a good news!!! i dont want to watch smallville without chloe sullivan. i like her character a lot. and i hope she's the first person that clark would take into the sky when he finally learns how to fly. even the're just friends..chloe was always there for clark no matter what so i think its fair enough for clark to show chloes importance.
i dont think there is a need to kill chloe to have clois. chloe is the coolest character for me and there will be a sad ending if she dies.. she has jimmy anyway.

Chloe has become the shallowest character in television history. She's only there to deliver really stupid puns.

Yay for Chloe coming back. Shes always been my favourite character.
Id heard Rosenbaum was leaving but I hadnt heard about Kreuk. I really really dislike Lana and Ive been hoping for a long time that she would be killed off but now it seems a bit stupid. If theres only going to be 1 more season why cant the whole cast just stick around for 1 more year? Why decide to leave now after 7 years? Seriously guys, whats another year on top of 7.

im so glad that allison mack is returning to the show as chloe sullivan! shes been my favorite since the first season! and i have to admit in the recent seasons the reason i have stayed tuned to smallville is because i wanted to see her and clarks realtionship evole after she found out his secret!! lets hope season 8 can really turn the show around!!!!!!! because the clark/lana/lex thing has kinda run its course! so bring on season 8!!!!

For my part Smallville was always about the dynamics of the on/off Clark and Lex friendship/conflict. This was the core of the show and for that to be removed will certainly shake things up. The fact Gough and Miller are chipping alongside Rosenbaum, Kreuk and now Vandervoort kinda makes you wonder if things are screwed. Season 7 was a superb season despite a ropey cliffhanger but now things aren't exactly looking rosey for the show's future. I love THE Chloester but is she enough alongside Clarkage to keep the show on a path of viewable quality? They need some serious moves to give us hope for the shows future. Christian Bale as a certain caped crusader guest starring could prevent the ship from sinking......... Yep I'm dreaming here.

i guess it's good shes returning, i hope the series can go on without a couple of the supporting characters, i guess we'll have to wait and see...

on a side note: lil i remember seeing mack on the nickelodian series the adventures of alli mack, i am still tryint to process the fact that shes all grown up, and a full fleged hotty (not that the hotty part matters, but lil' alli mack is all growed up, wow, WOW)

Hi everybody,I am Alexander Pires, I Live in Brazil, and I think this show must go on, with or without Lex (Michael Rosembaum) and Lana (Kristin Kreuk) and Chloe (Allison Mack) or not. The leading role actors must to know that is very important to the "trama", that they are important as much as the protagonist Clark (Tom Welling) or so much yet. If they leave the show, something will be missed in the rolling of the story, because Lex is the most important enemy of Superman in the comics, so if they leave...I think you must try to convince them to stay a few more in the show or just in a few episodes appear as special guests, to maintain the suspense of the "trama".I knew in the internet that Lex is confirmed out, and Lana too. But someone said me that Chloe will continue for more time. I'd like that because I like her very much, she's totally pretty, very smart, she seems to be completely happy for me and this is very good. The life is too many important to stay sad some times. The life must be lived totally, completely, with laughs and smiles. Not Sad, Only happyness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!YOU ARE THE BEST TV.COMTHANKYOU SO MUCHAlexander Vasconcelos PiresFortaleza - Ceará - Brasilmoreless

DymantiDulcie ".....after seven seasons it is wearing a little thin."

Wearing a little thin? It was WORN A LOT THIN 4 seasons ago now it is just plain f***ing irritating. My only regret is that Lana didn't die off the show so she can never return. No offense to Kristin Kreuk but I hate Lana Lang and sometimes I feel that hate is not a strong enough word and while we are on the subject Jimmy can die too. I was hoping that maybe something would happen between Clark and Chloe before he goes after Lois but that doesn't look likely. Chloe always has his back no matter what and she always gets trampled on for it. Chloe is my favorite character on the show equal to Clark but I still like Lois and maybe it is time for them to start liking each other but the only way they can do that is if (tear) Chloe dies, otherwise it would just be wrong on both their behalves because they know how much Chloe loves Clark. Any way it goes I'm just glad Lana's off the show.moreless

that is so cool that she is coming back. she is one of the main and best casts in the show. although am sad that lex luthor will be leaving, at the same time, i am happy that she is staying and lana left. lol SMALLVILLE RULEZ

What do u mean u guess you can stay around because Chole stays. Smallville is not a crappy show. It may have went down over the years, but it is still an a,azing show to me. Although they dragged the story out a lot it still has been amazing to me. It would be sorta lame without Chole though. Just ventin i guess

Darn it! I was hoping she would leave so I wouldn't have a reason to watch this crappy show any more. But now that she's staying....fine I'll stay too. One more season's probably not going to kill me.

Great to see that Chloe will be back next season, she is one of the better characters on the show and it wouldn't be the same without her. :)It is a shame that Rosenbaum and Kreuk are leaving but if that is the case then maybe the writers will finally move beyond the Clark/Lana relationship, after seven seasons it is wearing a little thin.

Great, I would have been disappointed with her character's departure, as I temporarily was when they fake killed her some seasons ago. Her relationship with CK has been more sad/heart warming to see than the destructive one between Lana and Clark, unrequited love. Allison Mack has done a wonderful job of portraying Chloe on her emotional depths and friendship for Clark and friends, even if her reporter/hacker skills are a bit too strong for belief at times . . . Now, get some great scripts, some great direction/production, and make the last season a must see.

Ok... Now can Clark fly finally? I love this show, it's one of my favorite shows on TV. But as someone who spends $40 on comics every week, I'm ready for him to be Superman.

It would have been much better to call this story "Return of the Mack" (referring to Mark Morrison's Song)

Is Tom Welling still in it? Cause last time I watched smallville I thought I saw him in like 1 or 2 scenes. The rest were Lois and every other superhero and villain in DC.

Doesn't help anything. Unless the new writers can turn the show around, Allison Mack's return wont be enough to keep the sinking ship that is Smallville, afloat.

Good, I don't think it would've been the same without her. I think the other two are really selfish for not sticking out 1 more year. Not that I'll miss Lana or Lex.

good to see that someone stayed on board, I wonder who the "bad guys" are going to be in the last season. I also think it is about time that clark learned to fly, I suppose we will just have to wait and find out what is going to happen.

It's amazes me that people are still actually watching this show. I mean seriously, how many filler episodes can you people stomach? They should have made 4 seasons TOPS and called it a day.

"Teen superhero drama"? How many people of the core Smallville fan base could possibly still be in their teens after eight years. I guess we all started watching Smallville when we were 11, or younger. Give me a break! It's a superhero drama, period. On a separate note, the only reason Clark isn't able to fly yet is because the creators of Smallville made that stupid statement back in the beginning of "no tights, no flights" and then proceeded to paint themselves into a corner. I'll bet you anything that one of the reasons they are leaving the show is so that Clark can finally fly during the last season and they'll still be able to say that they never violated their silly little rhyming slogan. Also, anyone who says that giving Clark Kent, A.K.A. frickin' SUPERMAN, the ability to fly is equivalent to "jumping the shark" is either a moron or not really a fan of, let's see, what was his name again? Oh yeah, Superman!Oh, and I'm glad to hear the news about Allison Mack.moreless

I can't believe they didn't make Laura Vandervoort(Supergirl) a series regular, she will only make guest appearances next season. I guess Mack can continue to be Clark's sidekick.

I don't like Smallville anymore. It's to long. To much drama and no action. When is CK going to fly. Where is the cape...
I liked Lois&Clark show much more.

They should have gotten rid of Lana long ago, can't believe they strung it out as long as they did (just made her look stupid, really), esp when everyone knew they wouldn't be together.Chloe, on the other hand, being an original character, has a much more open future and many more possibilities, because nothing is set in concrete from the adult Superman continuity. Good on them for keeping her around, particularly with so many of the six core members (Clark, parents, Lana, Chloe, Lex) gone.It is surprising that Smallville lasted this long; "teen" dramas don't usually last 8 seasons, particularly as the (already adult) actors tire of playing kids. But if Allison and Tom are still into it, then why not.

Awesome !!! Chloe is m favorite character in Smallville.

  • eMetiB_101

This is excellent news. Removal of Chloe from Smallville is a deal breaker for me so I'm very happy that Allison Mack was able to successfully negotiate her new contract for season 8. After Smallville's done they need to give Ally her own show :)

I'm glad that something was worked out to keep Allison on Smallville. It would have been a shame if Tom was the only original cast member left from the beginning of the series.

At least the final season would be tolerable now. I'd lose my mind if it was nothing but Clark, Lois, and Jimmy...if I wanted to see that, I'd read the comics.

  • craigmoore

So glad something got worked out so Allison would be staying. I can stand the loss of Michael Rosenbaum because Lex Luthor & Clark need to not be such big parts of each other's lives before Clark is Superman. And I know I'm not alone in my joy that Lana will be gone.

I predicted from the very first season that Lionel Luthor and Chloe Sullivan would eventually be killed off since they're not part of the official Superman mythology. One down, one to go.

Yeah! I'm also happy Allison Mack is continuing.
She does a wonderful job and adds so much to the Smallville shows. I love the whole cast and it's great how much entertainment they each have contributed for us. It's sad a few are leaving, but it's understandable. They gave us a lot of enjoyment and we'll see them a few more times yet. The writers have been so creative to bring us through 7 seasons!! And now 8 coming up! Alright!!
