A futuristic space series from the makers of Ashes to Ashes and Hustle is on its way, the BBC announced today.
Filming for the show may not start for another four months, but the BBC already appears to hold high hopes for its latest eight-part series. Following on from the success of Life on Mars, Hustle and Spooks the broadcaster describes Outcasts as Kudos Production's next "high-profile scripted drama". Though this sounds a little pre-emptive to us its credentials do earn it early recognition.
The sci-fi drama, about humanities quest to rebuild civilisation on a newly-discovered, life-sustaining planet, is scribed by Ben Richards -- the man behind long-running spy series Spooks and popular assassin drama The Fixer. His work, which also includes Matt Smith's Party Animals, has received high praise both in the UK and internationally, with Spooks even airing in the States under the America-friendly title MI5. Though Richards is yet to win any major gongs his partnership with Kudos in this, and his other shows, proves promising since the production company has already produced plenty of hit shows.
Casting is yet to be completed and specific plot details are still under wraps, but Kudos' co-director Simon Crawford Collins has revealed: "Outcasts is as original, contemporary and compelling as our past shows but will take viewers into a new world, literally, as it explores humans' drive for power, politics and sex in this new post-Earth era." Shooting for the show starts in South Africa this April. Are you intrigued?
