Star Trek moves along space-time continuum

All you space geeks out there have been given a few more months to get your Starfleet Academy uniforms pressed, Vulcan ears reshaped, and tribbles fluffed.

Paramount Studios has delayed the release date of the feature film Star Trek from Christmas of this year to May 8, 2009, according to Variety. If the studio is to be believed, the move was purely financial. Paramount believes the flick will perform better as a summer blockbuster rather than a holiday diversion.

The movie is being entrusted to producer extraordinaire J.J. Abrams (Cloverfield, Lost, Alias), who will direct. An adaptation of the original series of the venerable science-fiction franchise, Star Trek follows Captain Kirk through his younger days as a Starfleet Academy greenhorn.

The cast includes Chris Pine as Kirk, Heroes' Zachary Quinto as Spock, Simon Pegg as Scotty, and John Cho as Sulu. For more on the movie, including the recently released teaser trailer, head over to MovieTome.

I'll wait, since what else can I do. But I'll try not to build my expectations - that only leads to disappointment! Enterprise had really gotten good the last season (except for the cheat on the finale - who's idea was it to have the final scene with TNG people!!), I wish the SciFi Channel had picked it up. I even told them that there wouldn't be a SciFi channel if it weren't for Star Trek!

Would have rather had a follow up movie for the voyager/ds9 follow up or even another next gen movie. I mean when voyager got back the federation could've figured out the slipstream thing and decided to check out the rest of the delta quadrent or some other territory. Or one of the other races with transwarp could've set their sites on the alpha quadrent. Or maybe something involving that 30th century federation.

I'd love to see another Star Trek series again. But this time have it set a hundred years AFTER the era in which DS9 and Voyager existed.

JJ makes decent tv shows, but as movies, he flops, we already have several good original movies, what is the point of the re-boot?

Money.

So they pushed the film back. So that means the bootlegs will be out in full force by the time the film finally comes out.

Nice move Paramount.

im sick of captain kirk and the first generation!... once and again, again and again...all the vast universe and it always the same... always showing the same history... nothing freshh....at least it wont be a movie of picard...

also i think that Cloverfield isn't a fine example of success to relay our trust in the producers.... even if the sells increse the franchise will lost the chance of wins new fans with a bad movie.... with this kind of originality i dindt see a close reborn of SS, and i see too farr away the possibility of a new tv show about the saga....

and those expectations are very high, so JJ has his work cut out for him

Feels like I'm running on a treadmill to get to this film, the goal getting continually farther away...I did enjoy enterprise though not as much as I should have. Personally (just based on what little I know) i think this should have been the prequel they made instead of Enterprise. I just hope this spawns a new series, I'm not ashamed to say that I miss Star Trek the only space Sci-Fi we have nowadays is BSG and Stargate: Atlantis, and while I think both of those shows are excellent BSG only has one more season. Is it just me or do other fans of Science Fiction miss having some space series on air as well?

Darn, I hate changing dates, but I'll accept it, as long as it delivers like Cloverfield

I'm more of a Next Gen and DS9 kinda girl, but it would be interesting to go that far back. Plus, the trailer looks pretty cool. I might actually go see this one!

Wow, a Kirk based prequel? Even as a Star Trek uber fan I know this will be a campy train wreck. Casting major roles to a bunch of lukewarm TV stars? Are you freaking kidding me?

Did we learn nothing from Enterprise?

Or maybe Daniels is meddling again...

A year what the hell! oh well i could just rig up a chronokinetic surge and jump myself into the future. I'll have to be careful as I could cause An anti-time eruption.

Since this is a preq- I wonder if they'll have Christopher Pike on...hmmmmmmmm.

Chris Pine as Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Simon Pegg as Scotty, John Cho as Sulu... interesting choice. Let's hope it's worth the wait.
And I did like Enterprise.

Eric Bana is cast as Nero in the remake. Who was Nero's original actor?

Space geek? I believe I've just been insulted! :D I don't know if JJ Abrams can save this one - another prequel? Hmpf. "Enterprise" is the only modern Star Trek not to make it the entire 7 seasons. Shoulda told somebody something, eh?

If people 'don't bother' then what's the point? People were to quick to shun Enterprise because it was a prequel, including me. But it turned out to be some quality programming. So, live in hope that this will be a great movie. And do bother!

Since most Trek prequels suck. I don't think I will bother.

I think it's better for the movie to make a profit in the summer compared to the winter.

Well i've already been waiting for this since i saw Nemesis. I can wait another year...hopefully this movie will do well, then we can hope for another one, and a new tv show :D I need more Star Trek dammit!!! Take us back to DS9!!!

worth the wait I hope a newTV series comes of this

Well,...Hmm..maybe if Paramount had thought of that earlier! Star Trek Films have traditionally been winter fare. I beleive all of them since at least Star Trek five have opened in December!

Bah! Now we have to wait over a year for this! Curses to Paramount!
