Stars align for Sci Fi shows

The universe's most badass spaceship commander has a dad! Producers have begun casting the Battlestar Galactica prequel series Caprica, filling in the roles of William Adama's father and a female lead.

Playing Joseph Adama will be Esai Morales, who recently starred in the second season of Jericho and previously wore a badge on NYPD Blue, says The Hollywood Reporter. If Battlestar fans thought Bill Adama (played by Edward James Olmos) was tough as nails, they'll be kowtowing to Joe, who is every bit as devoted and firm as his son and then some.

Paula Malcomson, who played prostitute Trixie in HBO's Deadwood, will play a surgeon named Amanda who is also a double agent.

Caprica, which is looking like Sci Fi Channel's next big thing, is set more than half a century before the events of Battlestar Galactica and outlines the development of the Cylons and the two warring clans with opposing views on advanced robotics.

Sci Fi has also cast the two leads for its X-Files-esque Warehouse 13. Television journeyman Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly (Vanished) have been cast as the stars of the upcoming two-hour paranormal drama pilot. They'll play a pair of FBI agents who investigate, recover, and protect supernatural objects obtained by the government.

Premiere dates for both shows have not yet been detailed by Sci Fi.

We watched Caprica last night before realizing it's a prequel for Battlestar Gallactica. As actual science fiction fans this series is a big disappointment. Cylons -- who cares? Bring back a good Star Trek franchise or something meaningful. This is just stupid.

Warehouse 13 just sounds like a cash-in on the new X Files movie. Exactly like one of those rubbish mid-90's paranoia shows that appeared at the height of The X Files popularity (Dark Skies, Prey or that thing with Dan Aykroyd, anyone?). I guess that's what Sci-Fi are good at anyway, copying ideas with no budgets *cough* Pterodactyl *cough*.

How they ever managed Battlestar Galactica is beyond me...

I enjoyed Esai's character on Jericho. He is perfect to play Adama's father. Sounds like this will be cool.

I can never get into sci fi channel shows except for who wants to be a superhero

So if Esai Morales is the only Jericho castmember to be picked up by this new BSG show, there may still be hope for the rest of the Jericho. Esai was not a very big role & by the time the show ended, his character was very disposable.
