When USA Network commissioned a miniseries for The Starter Wife in 2007, the ratings and critical acclaim came pouring in. Thinking it had a bona fide hit on its hands, USA opted to turn the show into a regular series and aired 10 episodes in 2008. Unfortunately, things didn't go so well the second time around.
USA has decided to cancel the series after one season, according to EW.com. Poor ratings appears to be the culprit, and looking at the numbers, it's easy to see why. The original six-part miniseries averaged 5 million viewers; the series averaged only 2.4 million.
The miniseries version of The Starter Wife starred Will & Grace's Debra Messing as a women spurned by her Hollywood hotshot husband and trying to find her own niche in society. The series picked up where the miniseries left off, focusing more on the lead character raising her children and juggling her career motivations.
Will you miss The Starter Wife?

werent the ratings good when it first came back
Great another time slot just opened on my schedule. At this rate, I'll no longer have need for a TV. This really sucks
I Liked This Show I Liked Debras Character really loves It. The series are great.
I LOVED the miniseries, however I wasn't thrilled with the sitcom. Some of the episodes were funny, while others were the perfect sleeping aide.
interesting
I'm not surprised the show was cancelled. While the mini series was great, the show really boring.
I watched the 1st season and the 2nd season it seemed to drag a bit
No great loss.
I really hate it because it added a little cute humor and I really like Debra Messing. I think that if it had been on another network, it would have done better. U.S.A. isn't the first channel I think of when I look for a series to watch.
A shame, it wasn't so bad. Maybe something new will come along for her.
What The @#%&* I Liked This Show I Liked Debras Character Uh Man I Mean USA.
So much promise from "Grace", but this one was nothing more than a dud since it went from miniseries to regular series. I hope Debra gets a better gig next time.
This show sucked from the beginning. I hope they will bring something better.
Wow, it's as if I didn't see this one coming. When I saw the ads for this at the beginning of the seasons I turned to my buddy and said, "Well that's gonna get canned." Behold! I was right! But hey, I don't think anything on USA is worth watching, so what do I know?
i liked the miniseries, and i was going to watch the series, until i saw that they changed some actors, and i hate when they do that..
Am I missing something here? 2.4 million sounds like a damn sweet deal for a series on USA.
