Starz polishes on-demand service

Starz Entertainment Group has unveiled a new version of its Vongo on-demand broadband-entertainment service, adding programming and improvements that include higher quality and better search functions.

Vongo added more than 600 television shows that it will make available to subscribers throughout the year. Among them will be Westerns such as The Big Valley and The Rifleman, and episodes of The Green Hornet series, among others.

The service also increased its encode rate to 1.3 Mbps for most selections, resulting in improved video resolution. This is particularly important to those subscribers who watch on their connected television or even on a large PC monitor, though Vongo also is designed to support portable devices.

Additional improvements include more extensive descriptions of the listings and better capabilities for searching, exploring, and managing content.

Vongo pricing remains unchanged at $9.99 per month for unlimited subscription downloads. The platform now supports variable transactional pricing, however, so individual pay-per-view titles now range from their previous $3.99 down to 99 cents each.

I think this is very good for stars. But they should make thier choices more reckognizable because they are known for having the latest and greatest hits on demand. These seem like the kind of shows that should be on cinemax or something. Stars should have shows like Columbo, Murder She Wrote, The Wonder Years. Old time shows that appeal to my generation. The generation that actually watches On Demand.
