Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip, Aaron Sorkin's backstage satire of an SNL-type sketch comedy show, has been officially added to NBC's fall schedule.
The show chronicles a fictional sketch comedy show broadcast from Los Angeles' famed Sunset Strip. The series stars ex-Friends Matthew Perry, Bradley Whitford (late of West Wing), Amanda Peet, and comedian D.L. Hughley. It is executive-produced by Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme, who created The West Wing.
At the same network, SNL star Tina Fey is readying another show, currently titled The Tina Fey Show, about the backstage goings-on at a network sketch comedy show similar to SNL. In addition to Fey, the show stars SNL host favorite Alec Baldwin.
It is unknown how the Studio 60 announcement will affect Fey's chances of being added to the schedule. Sorkin's show is a one-hour comedy/drama, while Fey's is being pitched as a purely comedic half-hour sitcom.
