Summer Glau Finds a New Show to Destroy

... Summer Glau, pretty as she is, is bringing her icy touch of cancellation to NBC's superhero drama pilot The Cape. She'll play an "investigative blogger," whatever that is, in this show about a cop who becomes a semi-superhero. Glau's previous roles include stints on the high-profile cancellations Firefly, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and Dollhouse. [THR]

... Larry David said there's a "pretty good chance" that he'll cook up another season of HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm. The actor-writer, not HBO, has the final say whether or not he wants to make another season of the exaggeration biography because he's Larry frickin' David. [Variety]

... Will Ferrell has recruited two other Saturday Night Live outcasts vets for his new Comedy Central show. Chris Parnell and Horatio Sanz will join Jon Heder as three losers in the upcoming untitled comedy, set to debut later this year. This should be nice and mediocre. [Variety]

... Battlestar Galactica's James Callis is sticking with SyFy. The man who played Gaius Baltar (undeniably BSG's best character) will join the cast of Eureka for its fourth season. He'll play a former resident of the town who returns and shakes things up. [SyFy via press release]

... Rumor is NBC may save Jack Bauer if Fox decides to break up with 24. We heard last week that Fox was looking to end the drama's run on the network, but 24's production studio asked NBC if they were interested, which they were. And then Bobby told Gina that she heard that NBC thought 24 was cute, but NBC just started this thing with Comcast. And then Mike's cousin Julie said she heard that James said that would be, like, a stupid idea. And then... [EW]

... The Office has guaranteed at least one more viewing from me by hiring Amy Pietz for a few episodes. What? You don't know who Amy Pietz is? Duh, she was only the mom in Aliens in America and one of the most underrated TV actresses out there. I was also going to say something about her being a MILF, but that would be immature. This is a respectable site. [EW]

... Paul Schneider is leaving Parks and Recreation to concentrate on his film career, which is fine with me because he's been awesome in every movie I've seen him in. [LA Times]

I thought season 1 of TSCC was kind of slow. And they should of all been armed with real anti-Terminator weapons both seasons instead of what usually amounted to 'BB guns'. Stupid writers. And then we had that stupid Writers Strike. I wondered why they introduced the Riley/Jesse characters in season 2. I thought it was stupid. But it turned out they had real important story lines. Big plot build up for season 3.......that never came. Stupid title to article. Summer is a great actress.

@ Enthropii: The writer of this headline is half-way there.

I thought Season 2 of TSCC was what made the show awsome, while I alsmost stopped watching it during Season 1

    Mar 21, 2010
  • hsh_hazeleyes

I feel the need to defend Summer. Blaming her for these shows cancellations seems WAY to harsh. TSCC made it for two seasons and I've seen it. It had way too many other problems that led to cancellation to blame Summer. And Dollhouse was already on its way out the door when she graced it with her presence. She's an awesome actress. I'm glad to see she's doing other projects.

  • nomadewolf

Of all the shows she was in, i've only watched Terminator. And it was not her fault the show was canceled. After a brilliant 1st season, the producers got greedy and stretched the story too much, and THAT's what got Terminator canceled, cause the season 2 was un-watchable...

    Mar 21, 2010
  • SebbeG7

anyone saying an actor/actress is responsible for a show being canceled is just an idiot. It's not her fault that Fox are idiots. Firefly had the potential to become the greatest Sci-Fi series of all time. If Fox had just given it another 2 seasons it would have gained ratings over time. But not willing to take a risk they f*d up and blew it.

Summer Glau is this generation's Ted McGinley. Her name attached to any show is the kiss of death. Her fans may not want to accept it, but her track record is undeniable. This arcticle fails to mention "The 4400" and "The Unit", in which she played recurring characters....and they were cancelled early too.

    Mar 21, 2010
  • BiniBeans

What a stupid comment about Summer Glau. It's not her jinxing up the shows she joins. She just happens to have better taste in shows than the average Fox viewer, ergo the bad ratings and early cancellations.

  • Bottron

James Callis was the only shining light in a show that turned out to be a masterpiece in failure. I am glad that even with the terrible ending BSG had, the good acting was not ignored. I also think that it's not Summer Glau's fault that Fox can't handle taking a risk to make good shows so they stick with American Idol and whatever the hell season the Simpsons is on. But think of all the shows Fox canceled without Summer Glau, ending good shows is not out of form for Fox.

She has a bad agent, who chooses only bad projects to her. she has some fault, because I am sure, she has a vote in the choosing of those proyects.

    Mar 19, 2010
  • Full_Bleed

Gaius Baltar was BSG's most annoying character, which isn't quite the same thing as being the "best." James Callis did a good job being the guy everyone wanted to punch in the face, but Edward James Olmos' William Adama was masterful, a rock, and likable.

    Mar 19, 2010
  • Ogla583

It's not Summer. It's Fox.Firefly, TSCC, Dollhouse all have Fox as the common denominator. You can extend the list with Dark Angel and John Doe. Any possible more I cannot remember.

24 is great right now and keep getting better I don't know why fox want to cancel it but if they do cancel it i hope nbc save the amazing show 24

  • Watergirl90

I joined this site just to tell you that Summer Glau is awesome and just because most of the shows that she has been on have had limited runs does not mean that it is her fault, and I think it's very rude and narrow minded of you to say/ insinuate that.

You blame Summer do you Tim? Then it is clear that you're opinion is to be ignored. It was not her fault that Firefly was canceled, It was not her fault that Terminator was canceled, It wasn't even her fault that Dollhouse was nixed. It was all FOX's fault. I for one am tired of those that think themselves of 'superior intellect and taste' blaming her for shows that don't do well because self possessed, so called critics start shooting their mouths or fingers (in case of such sites as this) off blasting anything that is what might be considered a "popcorn movie or show" simply because it either isn't to their taste or it isn't how they would have cast it.So do us all a favor and lay the blame at the appropriate feet, would you kindly? Stop blaming her for something that is beyond her ability to control... She wasn't the only common denominator with those shows and ultimately it's the network to blame for such things. (In point of fact, BTW, She tends to BRING viewers to a show... She's got a massive fan base, of which I am a proud member.)Summer herself is an amazingly talented performer (both acting and as a dancer) and anyone that can't see that is clearly blind.moreless

Summer Glau is pretty amazing. It's just a shame that shows keep canceling on her :(

Summer Glau was among the best things in both Firefly and Terminator, so I guess you can hardly blame it on her, these shows were cancelled. Every show with Lee Pace seems to get cancelled before its time, does that make him a bad actor? Every show by Bryan Fuller gets cancelled, does that make him a bad director or writer? American Idol might get on for another thousand years, does that mean, that it is any good?

I like Summer Glau - she is a unique actress. I have never heard of Amy Pietz.

  • kirirur

Bah... do you really think Summer is the cause that got these shows canceled? Are you serious or just kidding? If you're serious I think you know nothing about that shows and on TV business at all, if you're just kidding and wanted to give a sensational title to your (so called) ""article"" you should have wrote it.

I agree, Summer isn't the problem, the problem is she's trusting Fox period, plus Dollhouse was cancelled before her episodes even aired. I'm not really sure NBC's the best place to go either but we'll see, she was on The 4400 for a handful of episodes, that didn't get cancelled for four season. I love her, and loved Firefly even though I came into the loop after the DVDs.. Terminator, not really.. but Dollhouse and The 4400 were my favorites at the time.. so I will atleast give this a try and hope theygive it SOME kind of a chance. James Callis on Eureka seems weird to me, plus I wasn't too fond of Baltar so there's that.. and Paul Schneider leaving P&R deeply saddens me, even though his and Rashida Jones' characters have basically been nonexistant lately.moreless

"The Cape. She'll play an "investigative blogger," whatever that is, in this show about a cop who becomes a semi-superhero." Sounds like a remake of Greatest American Hero. -- I hope Summer Glau can find a good show. I've liked her on everything I've seen her in.

Summer Glau was on The 4400, which was also cancelled

    Mar 15, 2010
  • yotaruvegeta

That's an incredibly weak curse to put on Summer Glau. Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles was basically cancelled with a flip of a coin, she was on Dollhouse for maybe 4 episodes- and that's after much news of the show being ni danger of being cancelled. The Cape sounds like a failure to me no matter who's in it. Sounds like another attempt to woo people like Heroes did. Maybe they can pull off one good season before they're canceled.I do hope I'm proven wrong and The Cape is phenominal.

  • dragon22a

It's all fox's fault. Summer is a great actress but fox never gives a chance to the series. Plus how cna you say that she caused the cancel of dollhouse when it was going to be cancelled long before her character even appeared.

    Mar 15, 2010
  • fatfreeoreos

Personally I blame Fox much more than Summer Glau for all of those cancellations.

Summer Glau deserves a winning vehicle, which of course means a winning network...24 would like do better as a movie than on NBC...

    Mar 15, 2010
  • OrSoIThought

Technically Summer Glau was a guest star on Dollhouse and she came after it was cancelled. Also, she guest starred on The Big Bang Theory and that show is still going well.

  • brinderwalt

Most tv shows eventually get canceled - it's the way of the industry. If you are a career television actor with a decent amount of screen time on your resume, it stands to reason that most of your past projects ended via cancellation (which is no black mark on you since the same applies to ANY actor active in the industry.)

Tim Surette.. Why do you even write at all?

I know it's not Summer Glau's fault any of those shows died, but it is kind of funny to think of her as having a Kiss of Death.

Ya! for another season of Curb.I actually hope they make at most 10 seasons, 100 episodes would be perfect.

    Mar 15, 2010
  • Dudekotka

I don't get the people that blame Summer Glau for shows getting canceled. Sarah Connor Chronicles had a bunch of really bad episodes towards the end, all while the movie series came closer to a full revamp, Firefly was because Fox handled the show badly, and Dollhouse was canned before Glau's s appearance. And James Callis really played the best character on BSG, didn't he?

that's not fair to blame Summer Glau for cancellations. She was the only reason i watched TSCC and she was good on dollhouse that show just wasn't that good and she was amazing as River on Firefly. Firefly was the only 1 of those shows that was canceled that didn't deserve it.

I hope LD decides to do another season. Probably one of the funniest shows ever made...EVER! Isn't that right Mocha Joe?
