SundanceTV Slowly and Methodically Gives Rectify Season 3 a Premiere Date

One of the sneakily best shows on television is coming back this summer. Rectify, SundanceTV's emotionally driven character study, will return on July 9 at 10pm, the network announced today.

The story of Daniel Holden, a man released from prison after new evidence cleared him of murder charges of his high-school sweetheart, is a critics' fave and a perfect example of quality "slow television." It's the kind of show that is never in the rush to get anywhere, because it manages to find the beauty in each step along the way. Star Aden Young was recently nominated for a Critics' Choice Award for his methodical portrayal of Daniel, and the cinematography is some of the best that television has to offer. Watch it!

If you missed it the first two times around, SundanceTV will be running a Rectify marathon on July 4 starting at 2pm, so clear some space on your DVR and set a series pass.

I finally got season 1 from the library. Holden was not "cleared", his conviction was vacated and the possibility of re-trial hangs over him. That's really the crux of the story - it's not about a guy trying to rebuild his life after being wrongfully imprisoned, it's about a guy released on a technicality that in no way proves his innocence, and whom almost everyone still believes guilty.

Bottom line - far more interesting than you make it sound...

I somehow managed to stay awake through season 1 , this show is just so slow with little to no pay off. Surprised it got a second season let alone a 3rd! But for those who suffer from insomnia this series is a sure fire cure

Hahaha! I guess it's a good thing that this show is not addressed to you because otherwise those of us who enjoy it would only be left with CW pop-corn TV. Phew...

New to Netflix, I discovered Rectify and learned that a television series can be as compelling as a novel. And after viewing all the episodes, I still cannot put the "book" down.

Kerwin: "Look at me. Look at me, brother. Daniel, I know you didn't do it."

Daniel: "How do you know?"

Kerwin: "Because I know you. Because I know you. Because I know you... Goodbye, brother."

------

Brought me to tears.

The second season wasn't as good as the first but it was still better than 95% of what's on TV. I'll be watching, that's for sure.

Sweeeeeet. Has it been confirmed this season will have six episodes? I actually thought the second season was very hurt by the longer order.

Excellent! Can't wait! Rectify and Masters of Sex are totally addictive for me!

Rectify is perfectly cast, the plot makes me feel like I'm watching a cog turn inside a big machine, and the cog is so sad and lonely it's heartbreaking... weird!

I've watched all of Rectify and it's very good with alot of potential, but the perfect example of quality "slow television" belongs to Mad Men.

Agreed. Mad Men kind of got that organic feel to it: going through life how it is, which eventually runs as slow. Rectify feels like it has been slowed down on purpose.

I have recently followed the first season on Viasat Crime. And in the first episode i felt it was slow, later i felt the speed of the show was awesome, because it gives that extra to the point of view of Holden. And his speech of have it felt to be out of prison was fantastic. I hope to watch second season, and that it will be as great as the first. And then I can move on to season 3.

Season one was fresh and creative. Season two is not as good. I hope they do not have too many episodes for season three and they actually have a story to tell. This is the type of show that does not need too many episodes per season.
