Supernatural, How I Met Your Mother Win at the People's Choice Awards

The greatest example of how democracy works and makes America great isn't our election process, it's the People's Choice Awards! Where else can Twilight dreamboat Robert Pattinson accept the Favorite Drama Movie award for... Water for Elephants? Is that even a real movie? Well, we're only concerned with television here, so isn't it awesome that the award for Favorite Cable TV Drama went to... Hot in Cleveland? Maybe we need some sort of electoral college for the PCAs.

Yes, the hot mess that is the People's Choice Awards was televised last night on CBS, and despite Hot in Cleveland's win, things skewed young and cute. Supernatural and its hunky Winchester brothers won Favorite Network TV Drama and Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show, reiterating that The CW's cult hit has a fan base that's a force to be reckoned with, especially when it comes to online polling.

How I Met Your Mother won the highest number of TV-related trophies (what do we call a People's Choice Award -- a Peepy?); the CBS sitcom scored for Favorite Network TV Comedy, Favorite TV Comedy Actor (Neil Patrick Harris), and Favorite TV Guest Star (Katy Perry). ABC's Castle was also well-represented, with wins for Favorite TV Crime Drama and Favorite TV Drama Actor (Nathan Fillion).

Ahh, the People's Choice Awards, where Pretty Little Liars beats Game of Thrones in the Cable TV Drama category. Personally, I think TV.com users do the whole choosing thing a tad bit better.

Yay Neil Patrick Harris, HIMYM and SPN!!!

  • Eglianna

I like the story line. Hey! Jesen keep it up.

  • Mike_Schmidt

    Dear Cecylia248,
I can help you with how to categorize Glee... but as I am charatible I shall decline.

Go SN!... and Left4Ed... I agree... it's just plain wierd not to invite winners... ahhh budget cuts and difficult times or maybe just a ghost in the machine?

I love how sad/mad peole are about the results calling the general America public stupid. Anyone who has worked in a restaurant, retail or customer service knows that the Average American is dumb and let's face it teenagers vote the most (we grow out of many of the things we loved in Middle School/High School).

That being said I didn't vote at all but somehow many things that I loved won. Love 2 Broke Girls but it's the only new comedy I've been watching. (I need to give New Girl a shot people love it). Every HIMYM win made me smile. And Lea Michele won who I like (I don't know why so many people hate her but I I think she's cute and has got some talent.)

That worries me. Perhaps I'm not that different from a bratty teenager. Scary thought right there.moreless

my classmate's sister-in-law makes $84 hourly on the laptop. She has been fired for 7 months but last month her income was $9078 just working on the laptop for a few hours. Go to this site NuttyRich.com

How I Met Your Mother deserves every win they can get. Fantastic show!

  • Left4Ed

Despite all the head-scratching -and anger inducing- wins, I'm still extremely bitter that Supernatural won two awards, and neither were televised. The cast wasn't invited to the ceremony, no acceptance video was shot and sent it and the results were announced during the pre-show. But Nina Dobrev from the god-awful Vampire Diaries gets invited? It's almost as bad as having read an interview with Jim Beaver about his final episode of SPN and him saying an network producer told him if he wasn't on the CW, his performance would have garnered him an Emmy nod. I just... Don't get it and it makes me SO very bitter.

  • CharmedOneP391

glad that supernatural won favorite network drama but I wanted Fringe to get favorite sci-fi/fantasy...but i'm fine with SPN getting it.

way to go HIMYM and 2 Broke Girls. Best comedies on Mondays.
I wanted Always Sunny to win never will watch Hot in Cleveland.
Also wanted Kaley Cuoco to win..like her.

  • TrevPlatt

I voted on this bloody thing almost daily - what a waste of time.
    I voted for:
Weeds - but Hot In Cleveland won.
    Castle - which won!
    Fringe - Supernatural won.
Once Upon A Time - Person Of Interest won (this was a weak field).
Suburgatory - some how 2 Broke Girls won... WTF?
    House - Supernatural Won.
Nathan Fillion & Nina Dobrev - both won, which was great!
Game Of Thrones - Pretty Little Liars won.
Neil Patrick Harris - who won.
Kaley Cuoco - Lea Michele won, from Glee, which isn't even a bloody comedy!

Four of my picks came in, so I suppose that's not too bad really. I would have been delighted if Fringe had won, but what were the chances, really?

And why the hell was Anna Torv or Claire Danes not even included for best Drama Actress? Honestly, they had Ellen Pompeo, Eva Longoria and Blake Lively on the list - none of them could hold a candle to Danes or Torv - fookin' travesty!moreless

It still bothers me Glee is considered comedy!..

I wish i knew how to categorize it correctly! but comedy na-hah!

  • cecylia248

When it comes to Person of Interest... people are amazing!

While there are few others i agree with, others makes me sad..

  • misslee022884

Normally award shows that count on the votes of "the people" turn into a lame, popularity contest that I hate to watch. But Supernatural winning 2 awards renewed my faith in the people, unfortunately I then read that Kim Kardashian won an award. 2 steps forward 1 step back.

  • MisfitChicks

Congrats to all the winners. And while I too am scratching my head over *some* of the winners, I think it's good some other shows (and actors/actresses), which while not being critically acclaimed, are enjoyed by people and recognized for that.

  • Big_Pecks

I think I agree with... one of the TV award winners. Bad choices, people.

  • GeraldC7

2 Broke Girls won! Yes! Love the show!

  • ben45tpy

Hey I love that word Celebreality. I can't believe I haven't heard of it before.now. I'll have to start using it all the time. Having awards for favourite vacuous celebrity and vacuous reality show participant individually must have been two high-brow, so they had to combine them to weaken the talent pool. Congrats people's choice! No pretentious picks here.

  • crazylegs99

Although I'm thrilled Supernatural won 2 awards (and deservedly so), the fact that Pretty Little Liars won Favorite Cable TV Drama over Game Of Thrones, and that Lea Michele won Favorite TV Comedy Actress over anybody else (WTF??), kind of questions the validity of the whole process.
It looks like most of these awards have been given based purely on popularity (which is OK, this was the 'People's Choice' after all). But people shouldn't take these results to heart. The voters were simply loyal to their respective favorite shows, regardless of merit.
On the other hand, Person Of Interest won Favorite New TV Drama. That will keep me happy for a while.

Can't believe supernatural beat TVD for sci-fi! I mean they already won another, did they really need BOTH? heck no.

    Ellen? Really?
    Kim Kardashian? SERIOUSLY?

Forget the financial crisis among others, we're in a downward spiral because of IDIOCY.

  • TrueTvWatcher

wow, who did the voting, some of these are very suspect!

  • estella87

Fascinating. Did anyone ever count how many award shows there are?

  • joeca1234

"Favorite TV Comedy Actress: Lea Michele, Glee" bizarre?????????

  • torque_smacky

Did anyone here vote in this thing? If not, we don't have much of a right to complain.....

I still don't understand how anyone can watch Lea Michele for longer than ten seconds before impulsively punching a hole through their TV screen.

I voted for Fringe on an almost daily basis. It was probably like spitting in to a hurricane. (And Game Of Thrones too.)

On the other had, I also voted for Natan Fillion, Castle and Neil Patrick Harris so that worked out OK.

    • alias571

I did, but it's hard to compete with the 12 year-olds voting in herds. I just take confort in knowing it could have been worse.

  • memizz

Hot In Cleveland and 2 Broke Girls wins? Really America, REALLY?! 2 Broke Girls wins over New Girl and Suburgatory. I mean that's just... really?!? I am at a loss for words.... Also Castle won, I don't even watch that so I can't speak for it but I do know well deserving shows and actors who could've gotten those awards instead. Also the two awards Supernatural won werent even presented on stage! I wanted to see the nominees, I wanted to hear them say Supernatural won and I really wanted to see the cast and crew get up on stage and accept the awards the so deserved!
