Body-borrowing, flashes of white light, free will versus destiny, time travel... it may sound like another episode of Lost, but it isn't. It's Supernatural, and things are dropping from the sky faster than a fallen angel.
Due to a work-cation down in Hawaii for the Lost event, I wasn't able to watch "Swap Meat" until last night, so consider this a twofer article on the last couple episodes of The CW's best show. And after one standalone ep that I could have done without ("Sam, Interrupted"), Supernatural has brought back some of the mythology that's made this season so strong.
"Swap Meat," another excellent episode featuring standalone and mythology elements, ended with the reminder that Sam is basically a double-breasted Armani that's being prepped for the Devil, and "The Song Remains the Same" (nice Zep reference, btw) finally introduced us to Michael—who up to now had been a bit of a question mark—and let him have his word with Dean.
While the Apocalypse-starting and Devil-killing may be first and foremost on most people's minds, I'm more concerned with how (or if) Sam and Dean will decide to rent out their bodies. Whether or not they're going to say "yes" to those bastard angels who keep nagging them for their meatsuits. That, to me, is the big question. Sure, the Apocalypse et al will occur if they let Michael and Lucifer into their bodies, as they're repeatedly told will happen no matter what, but it's the idea of such a HUGE choice for some characters we've watched for years that rules supreme here.
When it comes to the question of free will, Lost is in knee-deep—and has been slightly messy with how it's debating the issue (still good, but head-scratching). Supernatural, on the other sigil-writing, bloody hand, has taken on the question in a different way, focusing on choice from a more human perspective rather than a cosmic one. Whether or not Dean and Sam say "yes" will rely on their relationship, rather than on some weirdo occurrence like the things that changed Jack Shepherd's mind.
We know that Sam and Dean are supposed to say "yes." We know it's been foretold. We love watching Michael and Lucifer explain the situation, and you know what? They make total sense. It's this internal wrestling match that's played out on the faces of Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles that's been the most intriguing aspect of this most excellent season of Supernatural.
Question of the day: Do you want them to say "yes"?
Highlights from last night's episode:
... Castiel is back! Yay! And as usual, he delivers some great one-liners in his completely oblivious style. Cas: "Time travel is difficult even with the powers of heaven at my disposal." Dean: "So you're like a Delorean without any Plutonium?" Cas (deadpan): "I don't understand that reference." Simple. Hilarious.
... Young John Winchester is back again, and he's brilliantly cast. He looks like a young Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It's almost eerie.
... Good riddance, Anna. You always freaked me out anyway.
... Like father, like son? John says "yes" to Michael. Great twist. But will Dean follow in his footsteps? Things are pointing to yes. And who wouldn't want to be Michael? Did you see the way he turned Anna to dust with just a touch? Badass.

We are dying here to know the answer of that question, are Sam & dean gonna say YES or not. My personal opinion that they will say yes esp. Sam (the demons plans always worked so far at the show) and Sam is more close and desperate, but I don't believe in "like father like son" coz Dean is so not john and to remember when John went to hell for like 80 years he didn't say yes while it took Dean only 30 years. But seeing Michal WOW who wouldn't say YES, and killing Anna gives him more credit not to mention bringing Sam to life. This show is AWESOME and I can't wait to see what TEAM FREE WELL will do and the celebrity death match "Lucifer VS. Michal" in their new meat suits :).moreless
Most shows would kill for an episode like Sam, Interrupted.
How do dead angels being alive in the past open up plot holes? Uriel was killed in 2009 by Anna but before then he was still alive it makes no sense that if a person\angel\demon\ whatever is killed it wipes his\her entire existence from history that's why John and Mary are alive in the 70's because they weren't killed yet so the same rule should apply to angels there is absolutely NO PLOT HOLE there or in body swapping for that matter.
Not happy with the body swapping and dead angels being alive in the past. It opens up the whole show to too many plot holes.
They will def say yes. Micheal or maybe God will promise that Sam will survive the battle, so Sam & Dean will say yes. Or maybe there will be a twist - the brothers will have to give in, but will have a plan. Sam could damage his body in some way first, in order to slow down the devil and make it easy for Micheal. Who knows!
i hope too god that they don't say yes (sorry for the irony). i love this show its seriously amazing. i really hope that they don't cancel the show. if they can drag out supermans life for 9 seasons, they can do it for sam and dean!
i don't think they'll say yes. i hope for a super twist that will provide the winchester boys with a different option than giving up their meat suits. i trust in kripke!
I don't see how they're going to resolve this plot in at most 9 episodes, especially if one or both says yes. The next episode doesn't seem to deal with this issue either, so that leaves 8. I hope it's a not a deus ex machina whiz-bang ending - you know, God suddenly appears and fixes everything. And you know God's got to put in an appearance sometime....
They will say yes. It's only fitting.
I'm pretty sure, they won't say yes, but maybe that's just wishful thinking, because I wouldn't want them to.
I don't know if I want them to say yes... I'll just wait and keep my faith in Kripke. Loving everything so far!
hey loving supernatural so far :D
but i really hope sam does not say yes.in the last season sam being evil kinda got old and boring.i love the show because anything can happen and i just cant wait for the next episode
Pretty good episode of Supernatural, I too wonder how they'll eventually say yes and what exactly is going to happen
I very much am enjoying where Supernatural is going. Can't wait till we see God :D
I'm really interested to see how it all plays out. I feel like at this point they have to say yes to Michael and Lucifer. Supernatural doesn't tend to take the easy way out. I would be surprised if they started now. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see. I must admit, I would love to see Jensen play Michael
last nights episode was awesome!!
well he had to leave uriel alive so the future as its gone so far plays out
i mean without him the apocalypse may have never happened
killing anna wouldnt affect anything because the present they were ripped from hasnt really happened yet so he can change some of the smaller details
add a commenti hate supernatural....seriously come on time travel, body swapping...this show is quite dissapointing an predicitiable
Awesome episode! who doesn't love time travel? and good riddance Anna!
Brilliant ep... was so excited to see Michael come in to it at last.... and yes good riddance Anna... glad she got smoted!!
Well done as usual. I am also regretful with that being Anna's ultimate fate. I wonder why Uriel was let off so easy. Wouldn't Michael know that he betrays them and kills other angels?
Great episode! I'm sad about Anna though, I really liked her character
I do want them to say "yes" but, Im kinda scared too see how it plays out. This was an amazing episode! I loved all of it!
Just an awsome episode
great episode :)
