Supernatural "The Devil in the Details" Review: The Devil of Christmas Past

Supernatural S11E10: "The Devil in the Details"

I wasn't ready for this level of emotional abuse, Supernatural. There I was, on the verge of throwing a tantrum because darling Lucy was seemingly reduced to a one-off baddie moonlighting as the ghost of Christmas past, when Castiel decided to make the dumbest decision ever. I know, I know, Supernatural primed him for it with all of that "you're totes expendable" garbage, so Cas was certainly feeling a little low heading into Operation: Rescue Sam Again, but saying "yes" to Lucifer? C'mon, dude. I get acting out of desperation and depression, but we're talking about Lucifer here.

Then again, we also have the luxury of knowing how Sammy and Lucy's reunion in the cage was spent, and that as soon as Sam called Lucifer out on his B.S., Lucifer basically confirmed that yup, his ability to gank Amara might have been an exaggeration and of course he was going to wear his favorite meatsuit to Apocalypse 2.0 as soon as he (maybe) saved the world from the Darkness. Cas was missing some vital intel when he let Lucifer turn him into a prom dress.

"The Devil in the Details" had moments of brilliance, as well as moments of utter WTF—and not the good WTF like cannibal make-out sessions in "My Bloody Valentine" but more like the entirety of "Season Seven, Time for a Wedding." I mean, smiting sickness? Really? Could the plot to get Castiel alone with Amara be any more contrived?

So, Castiel's latest bout of crappy self esteem, daddy issues, and the hero complex he contracted from Dean somewhere along the line, once again led him down the path of making impressively stupid decisions. Did we not learn our lesson with the Leviathan? No? Okay, well have fun watching Lucifer use your vessel (that, if Nick was any indication, will start molting any moment now) to smite innocents, terrorize Winchesters, and—it looks like we got started on this one early, gang—reestablish Supernatural's sausage-fest status quo by continuing that fine tradition of killing all the womenfolk. #RIPROWENA #RIPNERDYASIANSTEREOTYPEANGEL

That raises the question though: what does Castiel see of Lucifer in his Jimmy-suit? Is Cas trapped in his vessel? I can't imagine having two angels taking up space in one well-worn human skin will do anything short of violating the hell out of that warranty and vastly reducing it's durability.

Was Cas just kicked back to Heaven when Lucy moved in? Is he stuck in the cage with a chronically masturbating Michael and no-doubt babbling incoherently Adam? Did he get sucked into Lucifer's Nick-vessel? Is Supernatural priming us for yet another assault on Sam Winchester's sanity by inevitably sticking him in the middle of Castiel-Nick and Lucifer-Jimmy and forcing him to figure out which one is the holy tax accountant and which one is the worst bunk buddy ever?

I'm going with that one.

So. Rowena is dead. Amara is alive. Castiel is MIA and Sam is not okay. Lucifer is topside. Dean is sexually frustrated and very, very confused about his feelings towards Amara. Colin Ford makes me feel like a dirty old woman and as usual, Supernatural slogged through an otherwise mediocre episode just to burn the world down in the last five minutes. Lucifer is back, and we may not be getting the Mark Pellegrino comedy hour along with him, but dang, Misha Collins looks more than up to the task.

POSTCARDS FROM THE APOCALYPSE

– LOL @ Rowena's nightmare.

– Awww, Rowena really does love Crowley and that's so sweet in a sad Supernatural way and.... well, she's dead now. Carry on!

– GROUPIES.

– One day, the cast and crew of Supernatural will admit that they discovered time travel way back in like, season 3, and that Colin Ford is actually a wee Jared Padalecki that they plucked from somewhere in the '90s and raised as their own so that they would always have a perfect wee-Sam on hand. One day, they will make this announcement and I will say, "told you so."

– You know, I don't have a Sam POP figure. How blasphemous.

– What did you think of Supernatural's return? Predictions for the second half of the season? Time to share with the class!

I hope Roweena is dead. One of the worst characters on this show's 11 year history. But, this is Supernatural, where you can't be certain if a character is gone forever or not.

Though I turned out to be utterly wrong about Adam still being in hell, soul and all, I'm still sure that his soul is still within his own body....which Michael is still wearing, so I doubt he has suffered much torment or suffering, merely asleep at the back of his body with Michael riding in the driver's seat. But I guess, hopefully, we shall one day find out.

Ok, best parts of the episode:
Sam saying "no" after all the work Lucifer put on him
The grim reaper reading "Death: The time of your life"
Lucifer saying "I'll move to LA and solve crimes" (I am wondering about that new Lucifer show)

Worse:
Castiel nonsense. He only needed to resist a few seconds, but he was temped so easily I wanted to punch him in his lovely face. Also, Cass still has a human vessel? Then shouldn't the vessel give his consent to another angel? I don't think one angel can host another angel. Besides, who is now inside Mark Pellegrino's body? If it is Castiel, I don't think there is anything in the Supernatural myths that justified it.
And I hated Misha Collins impersonation of Lucifer. It was awful.
I want Amara to kick both Lucifer and Castiel asses.
Oh, and Sam could have asked for Adam, really.

Agreed. It will likely have a fair number of people whining over the religious tones it takes, as well as a small outcry of comic fans upset over it's heavy diversion from the comic source material, but ultimately, I think a lot of people will have fun with it in very much the same way people initially did with Sleepy Hollow and it's amusing observational humor.

I loved the Death and Lucifer comic nods in this episode. I didn't hate Misha's impersonation of Lucifer, but it would have been so much cooler if they'd panned around to reveal Mark in Castiel's clothing and continue doing that for viewers amusement moving forward.

With regards to Lucifer in Cas' vessel, I don't think it should be as big of an issue as it was for Nick because Cas said that Jimmy was born into a bloodline of people who could handle being vessels, which is why Cas chose him in the first place, and why he was able to possess Claire for a while when she was still a wee child. It's just like how Luci and Michael could possess anyone in the Winchester bloodline. Granted, archangel mojo is probably way more powerful than seraph mojo, but if they stick with the continuity it set up, it shouldn't be as bad for Cas, at least, especially since God pretty much recreated Jimmy's body for Cas after Samifer vaporized it in the Season 5 finale.

As for what happens to Cas himself, I'm wondering if maybe he isn't just along for the ride like Jimmy was with him, where he was basically just a barely-conscious observer but had no control whatsoever over what his body did? I don't know, but I'm hoping for his sake that he isn't in the Cage, because being bunk-buddies with Michael and Adam doesn't sound very pleasant, tbh.

Well, I don't know where to begin why i adored this episode!!!!!!!!! Well, I think this season is shaping to be one of the most powerful seasons and if it continues in that rate it may shape to be the most powerful season in the history of the whole series.
The Sam secnes with Lucifer where he took him to the series greatest hits were amazing although i was hoping to see some of Dean's time in hell but what i didn't like is the way they portrayed Sam as the hero of season 5 although Dean too had a part t play coz if he didn't go there in time Sam would have never got control over lucifer but from what i see it it seems that they completly forgot about this!!!!!
I also liked Dean singing Biber and the time team free will were in the cage with Lucifer.
Altough i think it was a shape idea to make Casteil feel that he is expendable and say yes to luci after all he know about him, It was a great twist coz from what I think he was able to say yes coz it is really his vessel after all since there is no Jimmy in it! Anyway this series never cease to amaze me!
Come on guys ya gotta admit that it is way better than it's supposed t be after 11 long years!!!!!! what i fear is that it is 99% the last season since there can be nothing more important than God's sis and Luci in one season! any way only time will tell!
PS I DON'T THINK THAT ROWENA IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN OPEN THE CAGE! REMEMBER OLIVETTE? SHE IS NOT DEAD AND SHE IS CAPABLE OF DOING IT

It's Supernatural. Stupid decisions are the biggest commonality between all our heroes, and they've all done it. And my guess is that Castiel is still inside with Lucifer - because his body isn't really a vessel anymore, since Jimmy died and went to heaven. It's just Cas now.

OH. MY. GOD. I thought this episode was absolutely amazing. I don't even know where to begin, but--wait, no, yes I do. Spoilers ahead. Misha absolutely KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK playing Lucifer. Like.. holy crap, he did such an amazing job, and his portrayal is spot-on. He blew my mind tonight.

The guys will save him - of course they will, because Cas is family. In the extended preview that came out yesterday, Sam even said "Dean, we'll get him back. We will." So that makes me think the guys will realize what happened next episode and then work to save Cas and put Lucifer back where he came from. They will prove to Cas that what Ambriel and Amara said wasn't true. He's NOT expendable; he's a hero, just like they are, and they care about him.

I knew as soon as he asked Rowena about the cage that she was a goner - which is too bad, because I actually really like Rowena, but I knew it was coming. So that leaves Crowley to probably be locked up in hell by Lucifer before he goes back to earth. I also really want to know what affected Amara after she branded Cas.. did anyone else notice that? She was fine, then she touched him and went woozy. I'm interested to know why.

Okay, yeah, I have a lot of feelings tonight but I am positive that the guys will find a way out of this. Like Dean said in the promo yesterday, they're going to save Cas, ice the devil, and defeat the Darkness. In that order. And Cas will be by their side again, as he should be.

rowena's not going to stay dead. you know at some point later in the season either her head's going to turn back around because of a spell she cast b4 this stuff went down (lucifer insurance) or crowley's going to resurrect her.

i have to admit that when i saw castiel start to ham it up as lucifer i went "yeah!" but mainly because he's actually got something to do. my guess is that mark pellegrino and ruth whatever (who plays rowena) are guest stars so the episode gave us reasons for the actors to go away.... so now we've got the inevitable ~2-5 episodes where dean and sam don't suspect castiel/lucifer before some sort of showdown where i fully expect rowena to come back and gank lucifer.

also, what hurt amara? was it her magic teleporting cas to the hellgate, as in she got tired? was it billie the reaper teleporting cas and her death-magic hurt amara? something hurt her, so go figure we see her first hint of vulnerability in the episode where we're signed up for a bunch of episodes of misha collins hamming it up.

repeat after me: at least he has something to do.

I don't know why everybody obsesses about Adam being stuck in the cage. I'm pretty sure his soul was never in the body when it went to hell, having already signed his body over to Michael and vacated the premises. If I remember right, Death once said that Adam's body is down there, but only Sam's soul.

Actually no. Death didn't say that. A ways back Death gave Dean a choice of which brother to save and he choose Sam. Since then they kept their mouths shut about Adam being down in the cage. But yes, he IS still down there.

Dean : WHERE IS SAM?
Crowley : Don't worry about Sam.
Dean : I'm sorry, have you met me?"

Still laughing.
Amazing episode. A true fan pleasing moment: Rowenda dead. Lucifer still kicking. Amazing!
I'm just hoping that he won't be killed by Amara in the next episode or so...
Cant't wait for the rest of the strongest season since the fifth!

PS: Lucifer talking to Sam about not being himself since a long time...was he reading our minds as well??

PPS :
SAM: And what would you do if you kill the darkness? Start the apocalypse again?
LUCIFER: You don't know that. I might go to LA and fight crime!

God, I almost pissed myself on that one! Hello TV show "Lucifer" ahahaha!

How believable was Dean and Cas beating up on Lucifer in the cage ?
Really, now Dean/Cas are physically stronger than Lucifer, even if Lucifer is in the cage ? Really !!!

How stupid are these writers ? Or writers, do you think the fans stupid ?

Stupidity and inconsistencies found in SPN are just too much lately.

I'm pretty sure if Satan wanted to kill them all, he could just kill them.
Satan is always trying to behave like a human, and getting punched / hitting is one of these things.
He just wanted to create an opportunity to get out, he just did it by playing it like a human, although a slightly stronger one. He just forced an offer they couldn't refuse.

Loved the episode. Had an interesting mix of darkness, humor and character inspection.
I can even forgive the ''smiting sickness'' and Cas saying 'yes' (at least let this one play out b4 judgment).
Billie was back and reading a comic about death.
Some hilarious Crowley,Rowena and Dean..Even that moment when Rowena told Crowley why she hated him was a surprisingly deep moment.
Everything Lucifer and Sam was perfect.

They have been hinting at Adam making an appearance since last season during the 200th episode when Chuck returned at the end (who i think may well be God's vessel).

A theory i have, previously it took 3 Archangels and God to take Amara down, the same will be required again, i don't believe Lucifer when he said Michael has lot his mind, i don't believe Gabriel is truly dead, combine all 3 and you have 3 Archangels again and Chuck wondering about who i think has a direct connection with God, could even be God.

I see them kicking Amara's ass for good this time and God deals with Lucifer, fuck knows what they are going to do for next season though, how do you top God's sister and introduce a better enemy for next season unless they drag her on for one more season of course.

Personally i think they should end it this season, go out with a bang but nope, next season is going ahead.

Rowena's Soul? We know she did not go to Heaven. So could she come back as one bad ass demon? Her soul is in Hell somewhere. They do not know where she hide The Book. She refused to tell them. I enjoyed her cat and mouse with Crowley. I really liked her.

She used the Book of the Damned last episode to move Lucifer to the new cage, so either Crowley has it or Sam and Dean got it back.

Okay! Here is an idea...a theory for all those naysayers who are complaining about Cas and his decision:
Yes, Cas did the Leviathan stupid thing again and it was kinda outta the blue, like it was scripted BUT what if it wasn't necessarily the writers who scripted that plot (well they did...in a way...I'll explain) but Lucifer, reaching out from his cell and what if the Asian girl was in fact manipulated by Lucifer!?!?!
How you ask? I mean he was mighty strong, with controlling Sam's visions and with zapping Cas and Dean into the makeshift cell. I think he might have been strong enough to mind-control or at least word-control that minor angel somehow. Why you ask? #1 She was WAY harsh to someone she just met. I mean she stabbed him right where he hurt the most...right in the feels and the low self esteem he acquired over God knows how long (prolly only God does know how long actually....mhhh...anywho...I'm drifting) #2 The Darkness, the almighty, BAMF Darkness, was very wobbly after snuffing, draining and using little Wing's powers. Might it be because she got a whiff of the Devil himself as well??? Could it be that the message on Cas's chest wasn't The Darkness' but Luci's?
Because, yes it was all sooooo convenient. Too convenient. Jimmy Novack hasn't been in that body in forever. That body itself was blasted into a trillion pieces, rebuilt by God (?), was in and out of Purgatory and has been occupied by an army of Leviathans. Who knows what that body can or can not hold. Maybe Lucifer knew or had an idea that Cas was the best Plan B right after claiming Sam's body or maybe even Plan A from the get go.
Tell me what you think?!?! Please!!!

PS: Loved the music in the cell! Loved the episode!

It all a little too convenient. I loved the episode for the most part but Castiel being able to hold Lucifer shouldn't be a thing because the whole of season 5 was that Sam was the only one that could say yes. This is not even something ambiguous it's what the whole season, i'd argue the entire first 5 seasons, basically laid out. I am a fan so i'll go with it but its definitely a cop out.

Loved the episode. Lucifer's one-liners throughout the episode had me cracking up and his trip down memory lane with Sam was great. I liked that he pointed out douche things that Sam has done that fans have been saying for years (Amelia, the dog and leaving Dean in Purgatory) and that Sam had enough sense to call Lucifer out on things too. I hate to see Luci (Mark Pellegrino) go but I can't wait to see Castiel as Lucifer. That is going to be interesting.

Sucks to see Rowena go (I actually liked her, she didn't take no crap from any of them, and I like that she finally admitted to Crowley that she really did love him but couldn't fully care for him because of what he reminded her of) but she should have known that Lucifer was only using her. I wonder how Crowley is going to react now that his mother is really gone - and that Castiel (well Lucifer) killed her. I can't wait to see what happens next.

...But is she really gone? Her meatsuit got its neck broken, but at least in theory, her soul still exists somewhere... Although, as a witch, she's obviously been cheating Death for a few hundred years. Billie the Reaper might've decided to throw her out in limbo for that, I suppose.
For that matter, how many souls have gotten tossed overboard by ticked-off Reapers? Is this why the brothers never seem to run into their parents when they visit Heaven or Hell? o.O

Well, didn't they imply that witches eventually turn into demons after death? Wasn't that the deal with Ruby?

I'm assuming her soul went to hell and Crowly has access to her if he needs her. Which is why Lucifer wants to "talk" to Crowly.

Most witches, like Ruby, who get their power from demons are essentially making a demon deal and therefore their souls go to hell when they die. Human souls who go to hell eventually are turned into demons.

Rowena was a "natural" talent - her power was only hers and didn't derive from a demon.

So this begs a huge question that I think some have had here before: who goes to hell? Is it only those who make a deal? If so, then Rowena would go to heaven. Or is it those who make deals and other just plain evil people? We had this question when Crowley was pissed at Demon!Dean last season when he killed Lester, the guy who had made the deal to get his wife killed. Crowley said something like that meant he wouldn't get the guy's soul...?

It's never really been made clear in the show.

So basically this is the big twist of the season? That instead of the brothers keeping secrets from each other, it's Cas doing the secret thing?

Okay, not unheard of before (Season 6...) but still I guess it's somewhat of a change. Of course the secret would have been far more impressive if they didn't put a huge neon sign with the whole "expandable" and how Cas was being told that he is just a sidekick not a hero.

Truth be told I would have been bored to death but at least Mark's charms can always hold my interest.

I actually liked Rowena even though she never reached full potential (that original shot of her was terrifying) but suddenly turn her into a stupid grupy? Seriously?
Heck, even Crowly mentioned it was completely out of character for her. And how stupid does she have to be to believe Lucifer will just take her by his side?

At this point, my main interest in this show is just to wait and see if they'll bring Chuck back or not.

Wasting such an amazing actor on such a talentless show like Quantico :(
(I've seen better acting on Baywatch)

And why the bloody heck can't he get his own show as a lead? He is always such a random minor character. Well, I suppose the Tomorrow People made him a regular, but he was a secondary villain at best.

i agree. But the whole concept of Quantico is utterly ridiculous. It's not the acting that's the problem but the premise of the show. And it's a little too soapy if you ask me. So, something else I was wondering about. The first time around Lucifer being freed brought on the Apocalypse - you know, 4 Horsemen, Whore of Babylon, the Antichrist, etc. Will that happen again? If not, how will they explain that? Do the boys still have 3 of the Horsemen's rings? Do they have Death's? Will them having the rings be the way they explain the Horsemen not coming? Will something else Apocalypsy happen? And if it doesn't, will the writers come up with a reasonable explanation...?

No...... The writers won't let that happen

But i must commend them for killing off one of the worst characters in recent memory - Rowena is FINALLY dead

Next.... Crowley please - but the writers wouldn't take the chance because they like to appease the social media fans that know fuck all about TV

Because character deaths are a big part of a show - just because a character is popular, doesn;t mean they should overstate their welcome - and Crowley has overstayed his welcome by 4 seasons

That's a matter of opinion. Some people like the character, obviously some (like you) don't.

What makes you qualified to say people who disagree with you don't know fuck all about tv?

For the record I disagree with every single part of your statements.
Crowly is awesome and killing him would be insanely stupid since this show kills off too many characters.

We're 11 seasons in and we still have only 4 regular characters which is what makes this show so repetitive and boring. Higher quality tv shows almost always have a large ensemble of characters for a reason.

They need to stop killing off characters and make more minor characters have major roles.

But the difference is, I don't result to name calling to people who simply disagree with my opinion.

Couldn't agree with you more Maryanne. Time to let SPN die. This episode erased the entire 1st 5 seasons of SPN.

I have been loyal to this show for 11 yrs now and I find
the direction SPN has taken is for tweens now and not for what it intentionally started out as.

Ratings is what SPN boils down to not quality anymore.

I feel like the show is for people who have a crush on sam, dean or cas and don't really care what the plot is about

Lucifer beeing put in the cage instead of being killed meant he'd eventually get out though

Are you kidding me? Cas being the vessel is smart as hell. I think Rowena's death serves as getting Crowley really angry (he "hated" her but not really) Mark Pellegrino cannot go topside, so for them to find a way for us to enjoy him these last 2 eps was great.

I laughed with smiting sickness, as I did with Sam's & Crowley's messages on their cells, but what really got me was Lucy's "ambience" I have "Heaven must be missing an angel" stuck in my head all day.

well... that was something!!! Great episode!

Welcome back Lucy, but in Cas' body!? C'mon... I want Pellegrino back! Mark was "born" for that role!

Cas, Cas, Cas... first you draw your blade on Amara and then you say yes to Lucy? This episode was an ode to your bad decisions!

Gosh... Rest in Peace, annoyingly funny Rowena! You'll be remembered as a loving mother and parental figure! Here's what your son has for you...

Look mama! Santa brought you a Sam-ppository!

Great episode! Action, developments and classic Supernatural humor!

Castiel saying yes to Lucifer is the most out of character moment I've ever seen. Yes, he's done something similar in season 6 (absorbed all the souls in Purgatory to defeat Raphael) but Raphael beat the living crap out of him multiple times and Cas couldn't find any other way to beat him. Amara is stupid-mad powerful, but she really didn't do anything to Cas (other than carving his chest, which has happened before). There are also two other problems with Cas saying yes:

1. Jimmy's body is just an ordinary body and not suited for an archangel. Lucifer specifically CHOSE Nick in season 5 and even then Nick couldn't handle him fully, becoming a scabby mess before switching bodies with Sam.

2. As Sam said, Lucifer at full power couldn't beat Amara alone the first time, he needed the help of the other three archangels and God himself. And the only way Luci can be at full strength is if he possesses Sam. Nick's body put Luci at maybe 70% of his maximum, but with Jimmy I'm betting Luci could only get up to 50-60% tops. Still enough to easily kill any angel, but Amara is a tank and Lucifer at full power would be a bazooka, but inside Jimmy he's basically working with a revolver.

Rowena getting killed... meh. She was a wasted character. She had one of the most memorable introductions in Supernatural history (reading a book under a canopy of bodies) but proved to be more disappointing than Eve. Eve was friggin terrifying and was killed way too early, Rowena was mishandled so completely after her introductory episode that you actually cheered when Luci killed her. I felt more sorry for Cas's sidekick Expendable Lass than I did Rowena, and Expendable Lass only had 3 minutes of screentime!

7 out of 10. Well, Lucifer fans, after 6 years you got what you wanted... he's back. But, as I feared, he cannot be Mark Pelligrino (cause Nick's body melted into pretty much jelly) so you're getting LuciCas. And chances are LuciCas won't be able to do sh#t against Amara, or, even more likely, will probably JOIN her. Congrats, Lucifer fans. (Seriously, HalLucifer wasn't enough? Did you REALLY want the character back even though you probably knew he wouldn't be played by the actor who made him great in the first place?)

Except that we don't know that Jimmy's body is "normal"-- after all, it was resurrected-- we don't know how-- presumably by God. That vessel was also then able to contain all of Purgatory-- basically monster hell. How does demon blood compare to Leviathan goo in terms of corrupting power? I have no idea, but it seems at least plausible to me that Lucifer could be comfortable in there, at least for a little while. We'll just have to wait and see how long the vessel lasts. I personally hope it's for a while-- I think Casifer is one of the most amazing things I've seen on SPN in a very long time!

Also, while saying yes seems like a dumb mistake for Castiel, it occurs to me that the one thing sharing a body maybe could do for Team Free Will is give Cas access to Lucifer's memories, and let him see how Lucifer, God, and the other archangels were able to trap the Darkness the first time. We've all been assuming it's a matter of raw power, but maybe it isn't. If the Winchesters free Castiel and cram Lucifer back into his cage, maybe Castiel will then be able to reveal to them what he learned about Lucifer's original confrontation with Amara (assuming he isn't killed in the process.

Alot of people forgetting Jimmy died ages ago...and Cas has been resurrected twice and swapped grace about 3times. Does necessarily make what happened make sense though..There inevitably will be a drawback for Lucifer being in Cas's body

Cas was resurrected three times, actually. Raphael killed him, but he was brought back by God, Lucifer killed him, but he was brought back by God again, and the Reaper he slept with while human stabbed him to death, but Gadreel (in Sam's body) brought him back.

Maybe? Maybe? Maybe?!?

Of course it's not. This show always invents some completely never before heard of artifacts in the last second to take care of the big bads.

Just like the Book of the Damned suddenly takes off the mark, the rings of the horsemen stop Lucifer etc

It's even worse than that. They're forgetting that Lucifer told Sam that Sam couldn't contain Lucifer - unless he went full demon blood first.

It's not like the writers really bother with continuity.

Also, speaking of which, there are 4 archangels not 3. Uriel is conveniently being forgotten on this show since they wasted him on such a lower ranking angel (He was one of the guys that was after Anna back in season 3).

Totally agree on Rowena being another Eve. Although is Eve dead? Crowly said she kept regrowing eggs after death, one would assume that (if they wanted to) they'd bring her back saying she eventually comes back to life.

And what a stupid way to go. Doesn't that in fact means that Lucifer lied to her? If they can lie on deals, what is the point of making deals in the first place?

Also, I think that most likely the reason they aren't using Mark isn't because of Nick's body as much as it is due to the actor being unavailable, after all, the writers completely ignored the meat suit concept.
Heck, even in this episode, Ambriel commented on Cas's appearance when that's not his real appearance.

Eve vs. Rowena

Eve- awesome introduction, crazy powerful, creepy as hell, killed after 3 episodes. Complete waste of a potentially unstoppable character that could've saved season 6 from being the mess it was.

Rowena- terrifying introduction, started off awesome (in her debut episode the first thing she did was kill a demon with a spell) but after the revelation that she was Crowley's mother all she did was WHINE. There was one episode where she tried to fight Dean on her own, but the Mark made him immune to everything she threw at him. I would've thought getting the Codex would give her an upgrade in power, but all she did with it was cure Cas and do the Winchesters bidding.

Basically Eve is a rocket that never even got off the launch pad, and Rowena is a rocket that crashed and burned after launch.

i always enjoy seeing pellegrino as luci, but collins as luci seems pretty good. I like the cas character, but the mopy and depressed look is getting old. I just hope with luci topside, they don't waste the remaining episodes on stupid fillers. I hope this is the last season and they go full speed like they did with season 5.

Also, what a shame with that asian girl angel. Would have been nice to have another asian character since kevin was killed. Not like they set up her character with much thought when she kept saying how expendable she was. What is it about this show with female characters? Either they are evil, die, or forgotten (with the exception of a few like sheriff mills.)

Sooo,Michael wasn't the only one who went crazy in the Cage - we went from patient, strategic Lucifer to a maniac. Oh, well, Mark was great anyway even if I'm not quite sure about how I feel about LuCas/Casifer.
I wasn't all that happy about the flashbacks of scenes we've already had, but Colin Ford again? Yes, please!
Finally Rowena died.
Eh, I don't know, this episode felt like quite a let-down to me and not just because Mark Pellegrino will Lucifer no more (maybe). We'll see if next week will be better.

Lucifer was in that cage for thousands of years, and was only thrown back in a couple years ago. Chances are that whatever damage his brain would have suffered would have occurred before the "apocalypse" season some years back.

Michael, on the other hand, had never been in that cage and thus was probably quite the culture shock. That is, if we are to believe the King of Lies that his all-powerful brother was so broken that he was just non-stop mas******ing in the corner.

True, but... he did have a goal and Faith, a plan and Hope before the Apocalypse. Now, he's been defeated in his ultimate destiny by a prissy little human and thrown in the Cage again, without even the possibility of saying "It was God and lots of archaengels who banished badass me". He has nothing left, no hope and nothing but eternity with Michael? Even his toy's been taken away? Again, quite a shock.

Wasn't there that thing about time in Hell = more than time on Earth? Worse with the Cage?

and michael's an archangel

Exactly, he's an acchaengel, the perfect son who's been left to rot in the Cage for hundreds of years by Daddy dearest/his angelic minions, after he called Lucifer a fool for not believing Daddy would support the righteous brother. Billions of years of Faith (literally capital F faith) all thrown away? Now that might be quite a shock to a system. Michael would never bend, he'd snap and break. When better than after being defeated by puny humans?

Welcome back MaryAnn. We missed you.

Sam: What ...what if you can beat her?
Lucifer:

Sam:
Even though, last time, it took you plus three other archangels. Oh, yeah, and capital "G," God.
Lucifer: Oh, okay, what, you mean the dead weight?
Sam: But let's say you gank her. Then what?
Lucifer:I move to L.A. solve crimes.

That remark about Luci going to LA and solving crimes is actually a jab at an upcoming TV show, where Lucifer really does go to LA, opens a night club, and helps solve crimes with a female detective (played by Lauren German, who played Shay on Chicago Fire.). It's called "Lucifer," and it'll be on Fox starting January 25th.

I think you missed the real joke.

That's pretty much the premise for the new TV show "Lucifer" starting this Monday on FOX. It's based off the comic, of the same name.

In fact the recent comic reboot had some characters jokingly listing what Lucifer would call such an agency if he actually started one. The puns were along those lines.

The comic is amazing, by the way, and nothing like this show will be. It was written by Mark Carey, who is very talented (check out his Felix Castor book series, about and exorcist). He also wrote some John Constantine stuff, so you can guess how good he was with Lucifer.

I thought that was a really good episode. To me it made a lot more sense than the previous one. Sam actually asked some questions and made some points that I would have - it's like the writer actually watches the show! Michael was mentioned and that fact that it took 4 archangels + god last time, and some explanation was given as to why Rowena was able to so easily get Lucifer out of the Cage.

I loved the twist at the end and can't wait to see Misha be Lucifer. The writers have had a problem de-powering Cas for many seasons now (you really can't have your heroes have such a powerful friend, it makes things too easy) and I'm looking forward to this incarnation, more than say human Cas.

I really enjoyed Sam and Luci's walk down memory lane - it was great to see Colin Ford again and Stull Cemetery and Assbutt! And I have to agree with Luci that Sam's greatest digression was "hitting the dog" and not looking for Dean while he was in Purgatory.

And it's a little thing, but I loved the lighting while they were in the Cage.

(idk, MaryAnn, I'm such a nerd Funko Pop fan I have Sam, Dean x2, Cas and Crowley!)

I really don't care what the body count is on female vs male characters. Nor do I care about how many villains are which gender. It.really.doesn't. matter.
As for Cas making the decision to allow Lucifer to wear him as a meatsuit-I'm cool with it. It makes sense in that he is desperate to prove that he can save the world and the acceptance that he is expendable (which is not true btw, but he believes he is) so he is probably thinking that he will let Lucifer do his thing against the darkness and once that is done, throw himself in the pit a la Sam in Swan Song. I mean, if human can do it, an angel should be able to as well.
I am wondering if there are some archangels left that they can get help from since Lucifer probably can't get the job done alone.
I really liked the little pep talk and walk down memory lane Sam and Lucifer had. It did seem to wake Sam up to the fact that he has made some dumb ass decisions in the past. Him saying No to being Satan's meatsuit seemed to be a conscious effort to break that pattern of self-sacrifice, now whether or not that was the right time and place for that sudden act of normalcy remains to be seen.
I hope they plan on bringing God into things. I am torn between wanting to find out that God has been trapped somehow and is a really angry and bad ass dude and wanting a dead beat drunk off his ass type who gave up on the world because no one seems to care anymore, so why should he? The latter makes more sense and would hopefully require some serious intervention and angry words from the Winchester boys in order to get him off his ass and back into the fight.

There was a minor hint / gag that suggested maybe Gabriel survived after all. When Cas asked a seemingly fake Gabriel if he really was alive, Gabriel winked just before Cas was taken out of the hallucination. Some fans are suggesting that maybe he tricked the Lord of Lies... others think it was just fan service.

But per the show, all the Archangels are dead or incapacitated. Which is why Metatron was willing to come out of seclusion and use his Angel Tablet knowledge to mess things up as they would be the only ones able to stop him.

Unless, they completely screw with the canon (just say no, SPN!) there were 4 archangels. Gabriel was killed by Lucifer, and Rafael was killed by Cas. Michael's still in the Cage and, if Lucifer's to be believed, is a drooling mess. That just leaves Lucifer!Cas (or whatever we're calling him).

Nothing was explained. Likely she really was hurt by the angels a lot more than she let on and that was her essence leaving her vessel.

After she blinked Cas away, she stumbled and looked weak even though she "claimed" the blast barely scratched the paint.

So perhaps she managed to reabsorb herself after getting a boost from draining that poor accounting angel.

Yeah, I have no idea where all of this is going. Other than maybe this is why Cas was missing for like the vast majority of the first half of the season, allegedly watching Netflix. I actually thought we were going to get in the cage a timely visit from Amara when Dean was in serious danger where she removed him and deposited him somewhere and took off again, but that the rest of the gang didn't quite realize how deep that connection went.

But, yeah, otherwise, I had doubts we were going to be seeing much of Mark Pelligrino this season. I am actually not super positive where he was during the bombing on Quantico, but he might have been over at the hotel too, in which case, he's got a lot of my son and wife are dead story line and refusing to acknowledge that in all likelihood his son was behind all of this to begin with.

I am shocked to see that there are virtually no comments about another female character being killed off which to me means people are finally realizing that the show is not an anti female whatever that people say it is. seriously season 11 is without a doubt the most badass season in a long time and I am very very very pleased with all the twists and turns and mythology and honestly I feel that people that don't like season 11 are just being stubborn and there's absolutely no pleasing them no matter what supernatural does. my favorite part actually was when Castiel says it's the middle of the afternoon why is it so dark and the reason that I like that so much is because I have been racking my brain since the beginning of the season wondering where did that giant cloud of black smoke go when the darkness was released? now it makes more sense and I thought that it was a nice touch when they had her absorb all of it when she woke up. I think Misha Collins is going to make a great Lucifer people never give him enough credit for his acting but he is a very formidable actoreven though I loved Mark pellegrino.

I suspect it also depends on how many fans the female character has. A lot of people like Charlie. Rowena... did she really have a huge fanbase?

Plus, she was a villain. Villains on Supernatural have a pretty short lifespan. When's the last time you saw the Yellow-Eyed Demon? I'm surprised Crowley has made it as long as he has.

It's Supernatural. The female death-rate has been complained to death.

Though honestly, just about every recurring or guest character is killed in general, they just tend to fill the role out with women as eye-candy for the viewers and to give the brothers a bigger emotional impact.

Seriously, outside of Cas + Crowley + Garth... what recurring character is still alive?

Sheriff Jody, Sheriff Donna, Claire Novak, Alex/Annie, Kate (the werewolf girl), The Ghostfacers (the only survivors from Season One), Cole, Amelia and her dog, Michael, possibly one or two others.

Crowley is technically dead (and keeps his bones hidden someplace) ... but as demon souls (Azazel, Meg, etc.) appear to be vulnerable to a second death (non-existence), I suppose he counts.

But my favorite was probably when he took Sam on the flashback to when Dean was in Pergutory and Sam was with his new girlfriend and the rescued dog.

Angels, man. They are jerks.

One minute they were willing to make Cas their next ruler for capturing Metatron and sending them on the right path.

Next they're talking about how bad he is, and the NICEST thing they have to say about him is that he kills a lot of Angels. I mean, the NICEST thing. All because he freed Metatron and clipped his wings.

Meanwhile I guess it's cool that Angels can just kill eachother on Earth as well as use the Angel-mind-probe willy nilly.

I'm not saying Cas is "perfect" in that sense, but the Angels on this show are prissy jerks.
