Syfy Adding Comedy to Their Repertoire

...Interesting. Jowly old coot Lou Dobbs has abruptly resigned from CNN, effective immediately. Dobbs, a 30-year veteran of the network, said that he is leaving to "pursue new opportunities," which basically means he'll be personally patrolling the Mexican border with a large net and a baseball bat. Watch out! [Variety]

...Syfy is venturing into new territory: Partly-animated comedy. Yeah, like a Roger Rabbit kinda thing I guess. The show will be called Outer Space Astronauts and is about a group of "military misfits" who embark on a space journey together. The show's creator cast a bunch of hometown friends in the series, so it's bound to be good. Plus, with the animation! I smell a People's Choice Award... [THR]

...Sci-fi (not syfy) legend Ray Bradbury has just signed a deal to develop a new miniseries based on his short stories, which is pretty cool. A network has not been named yet, but one hopes it would land somewhere with prestige and money, like HBO. [Variety]

...Martha Plimpton has just signed on to star in a new Fox comedy pilot from My Name Is Earl creator Greg Garcia. She'll play the mother of a young man who has to raise a baby after his one night stand gets pregnant, then winds up on death row. The show is currently titled Keep Hope Alive, though nothing about it sounds terribly hopeful. [THR]

...Uh oh. Izzie's going to be taking another hiatus from Grey's Anatomy. But it's just so Katherine Heigl can spend time with her new baby. She's not quitting and then coming back or filming The Awful Truth 2: Even Awfuler or anything. But how will they explain her absence on the show? There's the mystery. [EW]

If they fired Heigl, they would save themselves the trouble.

@LadyInque: Actually, Sci-Fi did show some comedy programs before. Does Mystery Science Theater 3000 ring a bell?

Another hiatus for Katherine Heigl? Is she planning to leave Grey's Anatomy for good?

  • sweetsaintz

They let her have the hiatus just to spend time with her baby? I mean, take some time management workshops man. Or stop investing time you don't have in awful sexist movies.

Izzie has turned into an annoying character. It's time for her to leave. And it doesn't sound like Heigl really wants to do it anymore. I think Heigl just likes that it keeps her name in the news. My guess, is if she leaves the show and has one or two bad movies her career takes a downturn. Whereas now a bad film is overlooked because she has the tv rolls.

I'm overjoyed that Izzie will be absent for a while. She's irritating.

Richard, you need to check out the new show Styl'D on MTV. It does a good job filling the whiny teenage shoes left behind by NYC Prep. The only thing it needs now is your recaps!! Please!!

I wouldn't mind at all if Heigl would leave the whole show...I don't like her one damn bit! Hate her actually...

I wish at this point they would just replace Heigl on grey's. First a 5 episode and then however long this one is, she'll maybe be in half the episode this season
