Syfy Renews Z Nation for Season 3

Hey, if a series that's just talking about a zombie show can get a sixth season, then a show that's actually about zombies can get a third. Syfy renewed Z Nation for Season 3 on Friday, meaning the ragtag group of survivors probably won't be getting Murphy to California for at least another handful episodes. Season 3 will consist of 15 episodes and air sometime in 2016, oh let's say September since that's the month the other seasons premiered.

Z Nation comes from The Asylum, the same production house as the Sharknado franchise, and is set years after a devastating zombie apocalypse has ravaged the country. It centers on a mysterious man named Murphy who is the only known survivor of a zombie bite and might have the cure for the disease someone where in his body. Others are tasked with escorting Murphy across the country to a lab in California where they hope his blood can be used to whip up a fix for the zombie problem. It also features zombie strippers, zombie babies, and zombie dogs.

Season 2 of Z Nation is currently airing and can be seen Friday nights at 10pm on Syfy.

Great news for a zombie show that embraces its cheesiness with such open arms you can't help but love it. 2nd Season has been fun throughout - the best episode was the episode where Murphy got caught by the collector with George R.R. Martin's cameo as the zombie version of himself.

i actually grew to like znation more than walking dead, especially during the second season. but then again I officially became a transhumnist this year. in walking dead its only about survival, thats the whole point, really? I used to be completely in love with WD, even read the comics, like 70 issues. in Znation they're still trying to save the world. and lots of cookie possibilities like Z weed and immortalitty. Znation&walkingdead;

For a network basically owned by Comcast famous for cancelling decent shows we are lucky. And I believed they renewed 12 Monkeys.

Only show I watch on Friday. Need some comic relief and Z Nation always entertains. Love Doc to death. One tough Old Bird. Murphy is always good for a one liner and the looks on his face is priceless. So Happy....

I get a kick out of those who dismiss Z Nation as "low budget crap". Tell me what exactly makes The Walking Dead a high budget show in comparison...? They're both zombie shows but Z Nation tends to move around from episode to episode for location yet TWD is stationary for great lengths at time. Please, don't cite the idea that TWD uses more zombies and that costs money...George Romero would laugh at great length at that thought. Z Nation is hitting a good niche for its genre and plays to its strengths...that's all any viewer could want.

Oh, and don't forget the zombie camels, zombie sheep, zombie goats, zombie horses. Love how they manage to hit on different themes, the whole birth in the manager, the 3 kings (with their camels and sheep, etc) looking up at the start. ZNation really is just campy enough to be fun to watch without being soooo bad. This is what the world needs in these dark times of trouble--a lighthearted take on the zombie apocolypse!

Before I saw it, I thought the same thing: geez this looks like cr@p.

But after watching it... I have to admit it's a fun show. Cheese galore.

I think "Murphy" brings a lot to it eventually. Most of the other characters play it straight (outside of Doc) but Murphy used to like to ham it up.

So, I'm actually glad. It's not my "favorite" show or anything but it's worth a chuckle over the weekend.

There are a lot of good elements to this show and it's production, something I would have never thought I would say about the Asylum production company. That said, this show still has issues that have me on the bubble, they are just campy enough to be fun but also cheesy at times and I worry about how well and often they can pull it off. So far no 2nd season slump shows have to worry about . . . fingers crossed as the other zombie show is rather bleek most of time in tone.

haha well said. Everything about this show is bad but I can't stop watching... I need to know where Murphy goes... it's almost like watching a video game, each of their encounters has a winnable solution and occasionally they encounter boss fights.

I'm not too fond of the new Vasquez character, and I was disappointed that Cassandra got killed off, but I wasn't digging her as Murphy's pet, so I guess it's for the best. I wonder if the actors who played her and Mack just wanted off the show? I mean, they were pretty much written out near the end of last season, only to get reunited with the group this season, only to then receive mercy.

I've also been happy with the relative absence of Citizen Z this season. I *do miss Pup though.

I actually like Vasquez, maybe because it's fun having a bad ass pro killing zombies. I won't miss Mack, I found the character a bit too moody and emotional... I did enjoy Cassandra though, a character I preferred more alive than dead, but it was kind of neat that they had this zombie guard dog... Oh well, no one lives forever in the zombie universe.

As was explained to me. ***see below*** It is probably a simple matter of cost. The entire cost of and episode of Z Nation = Julie Benz salary. ( not that she isn't worth every penny). .

Z Nation is so bad that it's good. I love it. When it goes over the top with stupidity, it doesn't matter because stupidity is expected. I can appreciate a third season.

I enjoy it more than The Walking Dead. Funny Zombie movies/shows are always better. There is a certain point where getting yourself killed by a slow decomposing mindless creature that can't open doors or use a weapon is far more idiotic than dramatic.

Z-Nation only cost 800k an episode.

I bet most syfy shows costs double that. Expanse has a budget of 5 million an episode.

Yay! And while I actually sort of get some of the real story point of the last few episodes (there was only so long that they could keep Cassandra around when she basically had no lines and as a result they had to actually get 10K talking more and may as well make him and Murphee have an active working animosity based on something other than Murphee being a jerk between the two of them and I've sort of enjoyed this bit of side story more than Addie's last year), I have been wondering at our total ignoring of Citizen Z. I don't know if D.J. Qualls dropped out, but you'd think they would make his death be as big as Tom Everett Scott's was. Though, it might be fun if he decided to say screw it to his base, which isn't safe anymore, and try and find the group since he now knows they are all alive. Too bad it couldn't have happened when they were in Wisconsin.

They are awfully close to California at this point, so who knows what will cause them to delay (they are in Roswell tonight) or if like when the destination changes to Colorado, nothing is what it seems to be. Or maybe it just takes them a long time to trek up the coast.

D.J. Qualls is also in The Man In The High Castle on Amazon-he's probably been busy with that.
I like Citizen Z and all, but failing to go out and dismember the crew of the crashed airplane was just shoddy work. Now the Z Bunker is wrecked and he can barely talk to the team, much less guide them.
Thanks to the nukular option at the end of season 1 there are radiation zones all over the west-they've had to backtrack more than once (and wasn't it nice of someone to tow away all of those abandoned cars on the highways?)

Yeah, and the trek through Mexico delayed them some. It is funny, they wrote season 1 and its looking like season 2 will end on some other note where it could be a conclusion. Like, they clearly were in doubt before hand about going forward.

Indeed. But I think in Dark Matter they were humans. As for Z Nation, we have to watch tonight's episode to know exactly what they mean by zombie aliens. They are likely to be something stranger.

Just guessing that Jaimie Kennedy and Julie Benz's salary per show cost more than Z Nation's entire weekly budget for everything.

It's probably due to the fact that Z Nation is space based...Oh wait, it's not!!!! (Wasn't that one of the reasons Defiance was cancelled, that syfy was returning to space based stuff?) so of course they'd renew it!!
