Tangle resolves cliffhanger

Tangle returns.

Pay TV drama will answer the question: did Vince live or die?

One of Pay TV's biggest dramatic questions will be resolved with the return of Showcase's Aussie-made drama Tangle next month.

Viewers were left hanging with the question: did Vince (Ben Mendelsohn) survive being hit by a car?

The drama returns to TV screens in July once again dissecting the urban family life of the Williams and Kovacs families. Last year viewers were drawn to its quietly imploding story lines as families dealt with relationships, conflict, lies and adolescence.

The second season again looks at contemporary families in a way that is poles apart from the stability of the Rafters family. This second season promises to question old friendships, establish new relationships and asks just how well do you know the people you love?

However, one of the pivotal characters, the abrasive Vince, who was frequently despised for his infidelity and often racist remarks, was seen in the final scenes being struck by a car.

So did he live or die? Showcase publicists have been keeping hush-hush on whether Mendelsohn returns to the second series.

Though they do confirm the return of other cast members Justine Clarke, Kat Stewart, Catherine McClements, Joel Tobeck and Matt Day, to be joined by Don Hany and Kick Gurry.

Also guest starring this season are Adam Zwar, Leah Vandenberg, Jane Allsop and Tim Draxl.

This series is just six episodes, four less than the first season, partly due to Showcase's budget already being stretched with the drama, Cloudstreet, which recently wrapped in Perth.

Tangle is also expected to be a big winner at tonight's ASTRA Awards, being held at the State Theatre in Sydney where Mendelsohn, Clarke, Day, Tobeck and McClements are all nominated along with the show as Most Outstanding Drama.

It deserves to win.

The series returns 8:30pm Tuesday July 20 on Showcase.
