Terminator: "I'll be back...with nine more episodes."

Earlier this month, the set of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles had to deal with a very large elephant in the room. Sure, the typical Terminator fan was vocal, dedicated, and watched every week. The problem was there were too few of them, and rumors popped up on genre Web sites claiming that Fox was ready to pull the plug on its cyborg show.

More Cameron on TV is OK by me!

However, the reports of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles' demise have been greatly exaggerated. Fox put the kibosh on those rumors late last Friday, when it told the cast and crew of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles that--in its best Arnold Schwarzenegger voice-- it would be back, according to Variety. Fox has picked up Terminator for a full season, having ordered nine more episodes of the drama.

Science-fiction specialist site SyFyPortal.com previously reported that Terminator was moments away from being...ahem...terminated, citing a source that said that Fox was bummed over the program's slipping ratings. That report, which set comments sections and message boards on fire, was preceded by other reports of Terminator's imminent demise.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is the first sophomore program to receive a full-season pickup. First-year shows getting full seasons this year include CW's 90210 and Fox's Fringe.

Let's hear some rejoicing below! Are you happy that Terminator is still up and running?

To me ratings don't really mean much anymore in today's world. It doesn't account for those who are DVR/Tivoing everynight or those who watch online.

I always DVR this show, myself. I watch MNF mostly on Monday night, but this is the one I always record during it. The only one.

I really hope it doesn't get cancelled.

Yes. Yes. Yes. I am totally addicted to this show. I am very glad Fox is giving this show it's chances. I'm a newbie for this show, and I cannot wait until this show has reached it's 5th season (at least).

KStanf (10/21/2008 12:07:46) ... I really don't have a clue about how the economics work for the networks and advertizers but your idea re DVRs looked good to me.

How about someone (the advertizers) rent real cheap DVRs that can't FF and are connected to the web ... web would allow the advertizers to capture viewer statistics and also allow them to audit the DVRs to deter hackers, as well as to download viewer requested shows and fresh commercials for later use. A system like this (with newer commercials available) would even be friendly to allowing a user to build a library of favorite shows if they were willing to pay extra for proprietary HDDs. Use of the DVR might have to be made contingent on acceptance of tighter restrictions on Fair Use (on a per recording basis).

A viewer could receive shows by web, OTA, cable etc. and the traditional networks would be only one more source of shows. Likewise, rather than having all the same crappy infomercials dominating the local stations in the late night hours, those stations could be paid by the show owners to stream their programs for efficient distribution. The local stations could even insert their own commercials into those shows for the viewers who actually are watching during the late night (I work shift), and these would be dutifully stripped out by the DVR when recording. They could also stream older shows that way. (it would cut into any revenue they would get from selling Season DVDs but I doubt that's all that great anyway, and I'm sure they would appreciate having better control).

You know, if the Music business had been able to do something like this when MP3 players came about, maybe they wouldn't feel so hard done by that we now have to put up with buying DVDs of our favorite TV shows minus their original music.moreless

This is a good show and a great story (I loved all 3 Terminator Movies; yes even the 3rd). I don't think it can compete with NBC's Chuck, but that is what Tivo and DVR is for - by the way:Does anyone know if these companies that track rankings look into Online viewings, Tivo, DVR? You can basically watch about 10 primetime (8pm-10pm) shows Mon-Fri. But thanks to the internet and my DVR, my weekly TV schedule allows me to watch about 27 shows this season.

Excellent news indeed, TSCC is one of the best series' out of the US in the last couple of years. A good cast and great storylines it certainly did deserve to be picked up. Not to mention being able to get my weekly fix of Summer. ;)I agree with drno86, It's a shame the Australian network that aired TSCC, Channel Nine, didn't see the promise in this show. They're even quicker than FOX to dump new shows that aren't going well, did anybody notice how quickly Fringe was dumped?

Wow if they canceled this show I would have been so mad. I had like 3 of my new favorites canceled last season. It seems like every new show with any promise gets canceled before it has time to start rolling.

Fox.com has just announced there will be 22 episodes for Season 2. As of beginning of Nov., this means 15 more episodes to go. It says the reason of so few viewers compared to the first season could be because too many good shows are on Monday night. The possibility of moving the show to Wed. night at 9pm. Hoping for more viewers and better reviews.

This has got to be one of the best shows out of the U.S. in years. It is only appropriate that the show has been given the approval for the full second season. It is a shame that the lame Austrlian TV networks have not picked it up. As an Australian fan, I will be showing my support by buying the Season 2 DVD box set as soon as it is available.

The the cast and crew, fantastic, to Fox keep it coming!

Nice. I can finally watch this show worry free. I was starting to think it was pointless to keep watching if they might not be a next episode. Although i do agree that they need to have a ridiculously good episode to get out of the slump and become a hit show.

This show deserves it to stay on, and on and on. It is great. What poor rating are they talking about. I don't believe it. This show is great, never a dull moment. And so much more can be done with the storyline, it could go any where. Brian Austin Green, i must say this, is like a new action hero in the making with a dark twist. He is excellent.
Terminator stays, i know it.... I want it.

  • sabine21

Absolutely!!! This show is awesome. I love that it stands alone and doesn't require that you have seen the movies..(though I have). Season 2 has been even better than season 1. Hopefully more people will check out the show and it won't have any more rumors of being canceled.

I still can't believe it was even on the chopping block, with other bizarre shows getting renewed over and over again.

Fox finally made the right decision. Keep Terminator on the air!

I hope T:SCC can proof their worth and really pull it out of the bag. The Terminator universe has so much potential for telling stories about the human and cyborg condition which can be great. Allthough T:SCC has dropped the ball in several of it's episodes it does deserve a second, or in this case third, chance.

I'm really surprised. Ever since Fox cancelled the genius that was Firefly, I've tried not to get too attached to new shows they air. T:SCC was my one deviation. I am so glad to see it has at least the rest of this season to build up a larger fan base. Tell your friends and family what they are missing!!

Good news, I just wish Mondays was not so full, I TIVO Prison Break, and Terminator, But also like heroes, chuck, cbs sitcoms, But I like MNF the best, there are so many other nights that could use some of these shows.

Heck yeah I'm happy! I was so disappointed with the original news that it might be getting cancelled. I'm glad Fox has done ONE thing right lately! Well, this and extending Fringe!

Good stuff, it deserves a chance. The ratings will improve if they move it to another night. Too much competition on Monday. The storyline is good and promises to get very interesting. I'm glad we're gonna see more TSCC

That is beyond Awesome, It's about time FOX realized what a great show they have in TSCC. I was honestly worried by the cancellation rumours especially given FOX's past record with cancelling shows but thankfully they've proven my doubts wrong and I can't wait to see the new episodes.
