Chris Carter’s big TV comeback is on hold again. The creator of The X-Files now has another ex-show (note the additional “e”) on his resumé, and this one didn't even get to air before it was canceled.
Amazon has decided not to move forward with Carter’s science-fiction drama The After, almost 10 months after ordering the project to series. The streaming-video provider did not provide a specific reason for its decision.
“We have decided to not move forward with The After,” Amazon Studios vice president Roy Price said in a statement released to Variety. “We would like to thank Chris Carter, the phenomenal cast, crew, and production for all their efforts.”
The After, whose pilot debuted last February as part of Amazon’s public pilot program, followed eight strangers who came together following an unexplained event that involved [is this a spoiler anymore?] aliens, or at least something creepy-crawly. Only the pilot was ever produced.
Of the three other shows that were ordered to series alongside The After, two are going strong and one has yet to debut. Family drama Transparent, which premiered in late September, has already been renewed for Season 2 and made several critics’ Best of 2014 lists. Mozart in the Jungle, about the inner workings of the classical music business, premiered just a couple weeks ago, on December 23; keep an eye out for our own Cory Barker's take on the show, which we'll publish later this week. And Bosch, which stars Titus Welliver as an L.A. cop who's hunting the murderer of a 13-year-old boy while standing trial himself for the murder of a suspected serial killer, is expected to premiere within the first half of 2015.
Were you looking forward to The After?
been looking forward to this show for forever ;_;
With TWD expanding to another show and other similar apocalypse shows not doing that well like Dominion. I think they probably thought that they weren't going to be able to stand out. Plus it had Jaimie Kennedy in it and well that deserved a cancellation right there.
I have no doubt that it would have found its audience (maybe even myself included) and it might even had found its footing and became groundbreaking TV, but in all honesty I kind of doubt that. Now we will never know.
RIP The After...
There wasn't a single original idea in it and it's sad to see a mind as fine as Carter's running on fumes.
Chris Carter has been under the radar for years now so was looking forward to seeing his new series. Oh well.
I enjoyed The Lone Gunmen and loved Harsh Realm... both quickly cancelled.
The After cancellation beats all of them ... one episode.
Seriously though, they threw a LOT at you in the pilot. Like, 9 episodes of WTF into one pilot. Needed to watch it 2 times to get everything, and I still didn't understand.
BUT....
I still had planned on watching it (Hey, i sat through MOST of Season 1 of Under the Dome LMAO). Let's see what Chris Carter does from here.
The pilot was bad.
runs
Bosch, on the other hand, looked really good and I am eagerly anticipating this show debuting. I loved Titus Welliver's character in this. Made me think of Vick Mackey of The Shield. Also, The Killing Season 4 came to mind.
I'm not surprised this show got axed. I also liked Rebels, the football comedy that didn't get picked up.
Fringe was a good sci-fi show that grew into a great sci-fi series.
And Fox executives gave it an opportunity for proper closure...
