The Best Commercials from Super Bowl XLIV

Is it just me, are Super Bowl commercials not as funny as they used to be? Overall, I thought this year's crop of ads was pretty mediocre—but there were a few spots that made me smile. Here are six of my favorites.

------

Kia Sorento's "Joyride"
The sock monkey in this Toy Story-meets-The Hangover ad sure knows how to party (I love his sewn-own 'Mom' tattoo!).

------

Boost Mobile's "The Boost Mobile Shuffle"
Twenty-five years after recording Super Bowl Shuffle, the Chicago Bears Shufflin' Crew returned to the studio to do it again—this time, on behalf of Boost Mobile.

------

Intel's "Lunch Room"
A cute lil' robot named Jeffery is crushed when he finds out he's no longer Intel's proudest achievement.

------

Bud Light's "Stranded"
Were I marooned on an island with nothing to drink but Bud Light, I'd rather die of thirst. But the nod to Lost was a nice touch. (I also enjoyed Bud Light's Asteroid and Voice Box spots, the latter of which featured a cameo by T-Pain.)

------

Homeaway.com's "Hotel Hell"
Of this year's celebrity cameos, Chevy Chase's reprise as Vacation's Clark Griswold was my favorite.

------

Late Show with David Letterman's "Worst Super Bowl Party Ever"
Late-night host/pariah Jay Leno joined Oprah and Dave Letterman for a new twist on a similar Super Bowl spot from 2007. Awkwaaaaard!

------

Missed the game (and/or its commercials)? Head over to CBS Sports to watch every single ad that aired during Super Bowl XLIV.

I'm with Mae Mace on this one, I love Bud Light commercials. I'm not even a drinker, but beer companies always have the best commercials and ads. I love the Kia commercial because I think sock monkeys are so funny! http://bestinjaco.com/lang/en

HAHA. How can you not love Bud Light commercials? They don't even need commercials anymore because they are all etched into our minds from years ago, but still they are hilarious. http://www.bluesunproperties.com

Also, i hate that Kia Commercial, completely lacking in any sort of creativity, probably an exec came up with it in the shower before the pitch meeting.http://www.bermudabayresortnc.com

The boost mobile shuffle? please, that one was as bad as the sobe commercial. This years was pretty lacking in good ads, only bud light was able to put anything creative out there.almosthometahoe.com

All of the Doritos ads were the best.

Other than the Bud Light clip with it's nod to Lost, the Intel ad was the only other one you picked that I liked. The rest were boring.

LOL i think it's hilarious that the Asteroid Bud Light commercial also winks at the show LOST, with the actor who plays Dr. Cheng on the show starring as one of the party animals!

Bud always had the best ads. None of these were nearly as good as the Bud Bowl.

am I the only one disturbed that it seems to be OK for a kid to slap an adult (who isn't slapping him, of course)? Yes, it was cute in it's own way, but it sends the message that that kind of behavior is OK. It would have been just as cute without the slap.

The Career Builder ad was just plain stupid. Who would even think Casual Friday meant show up in your underwear? Just plain stupid.

I love sock monkey he rules!!!!

I urge CBS to be more judicious in airing the Superbowl commercials. The Career Builders' ad was tasteless, not humorous and lacked credibility. Seeing everyone in their underwear was offensive and degrades the reputation of your station. Furthermore, with many young adults watching, what does this say about the character of our adults these days. Get it off the air.

the ONLY good one was the Doritos ad with the lil boy.... "Keep your hand off my mama, keep your hands off my Doritos".simpsons coke ad was stupid... green police and the boost mobile shuffle were tied for the worst.

@toddanthonydire which ads did you like the best? apparently i'm alone in thinking he doritos ads were mostly annoying (the 'play nice' spot was the only one that came close) ... but i did like the commercials with brett favre and troy palo-whatever-his-name-is.

I hate commercials. I rarely find amusing ones.

I thought the Toy Joy Ride was pretty stupid personally. The E-trade commercials were great and so were most of the Doritos. Isn't anyone talking about the Brett Favre 2020 MVP commercial? That was hysterical.

I led the Letterman one and the Bud Brigde commercial and the Vacation one wu=ith Chevy Chase

The Doritos commercials were classics this year.

You dont have the best one listed. It was the little kid slapping his Mom's date saying, "Stay away from my Momma and my Doritos". And you also didn't show the second best one with Betty White and Abe Vigoda (Snickers).

    Feb 08, 2010
  • mggolfer

Definitely the Denny's commercials with the frantic chickens for free Tuesday Grand Slam breakfasts!!!

The Troy Palomaulo (sp?) add was great! Seems to be overlooked.

I loved the one with the e-trade baby, that baby kicks ass. Milka-what, lol.And the "Play nice" from doritos. "Keep your hands of my mama, keep your hands of my doritos".

There was a Snickers ad with Betty White that was pretty funny. I didn't see it during the game, but a friend sent me a link.

Too bitter to watch. No Vikings this year. Like most years I know. But this year the sting was too harsh. Watched a kids movie instead. SHORTS--not too bad.

  • KingofIPirates

None of the ads were particularlly.. amusing

@joits i did like the brett favre ad, as time goes by it seems like the guy keeps retiring and coming back just to keep the endorsement deals rolling in.

    Feb 07, 2010
  • CRaivios

I did not like any of the ones listed above. My absolute favorites were by Doritos.

loved the monster.com ad with the violin playing beaver

  • joits

wow... most of these ads on this list were the ones i didn't like... especially the totally unfunny homeaway.com, the letterman ad, and the kia one. the funniest one for me was the brett favre ad where he's still playing 10 years from now and i loved google's ad.
