The Best Show on Every Network as of Right Now (Spring 2015)

Pretty soon there will be one cable network for every person on the planet and you'll be able to find programming that perfectly caters to your tastes, but until that happens, you'll have to continuously sift through your cable guide to find the best show on each network.

LET ME HELP! In this second edition of "The Best Show on Every Network as of Right Now," I will reveal the best show on every network as of right now—mid-March, 2015.

In case you missed the first edition, here are the rules:

– Original programming only! (Except in cases where a network's original programming is so bad that I had no choice but to select a rerun of a movie.) Foreign shows that are currently airing on a U.S. network are also eligible.

– Every show listed must be part of its network's current lineup, but it's okay if a series is between seasons.

That's it!

And now, here's my rundown of the best shows on all the major-ish networks, presented without explanation.

Note: I suppose there's a SLIGHT chance that your opinions may differ from mine; if that's the case, why don't you share your own list in the comments?

Tim Succette once again slides his political digs into his listings. Everyone is entitled to their political views...no pun intended on 'entitled',.. but do we really need Tim's political spin on what I thought was an entertainment site. I guess he just can't help his knee-jerk reaction... and 'jerk' is intended.

Since you seem to be influenced by the Media Matters paid trolls and seem to think that saying faux news makes you seem intelligent I have to remind you that you are not. There are real reasons Fox News is the most watched news channels - you should watch it and learn something instead of smugly assuming you are "brilliant"

There is "Person of Interest"... and there are the other shows...

(Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of many (28 shows to be exact) shows including Blacklist, Da Vinci's Demons, Penny Dreadful, Elementary, etc.) but, PoI is something else...

Great list! Shockingly, I found myself agreeing with almost all of your choices. :)

EXCEPT -- The only argument I would make is that Shameless is by far the best show on Showtime, as good as Penny Dreadful is too. Shameless can be polarizing, but few shows have ever been so fearless completely unafraid to "go there", whether it's for an extreme moment of comedy that you feel like a horrible person for laughing at it, or an extreme moment of drama that hits you so deep, it lingers with you far beyond the end of the episode. So well written and exceptional actors.

Agree about Hannibal on NBC. On FX, I just started to watch The Americans. I like it a lot but Justified is better. Much better actually. As for CBS, I don't get what people like so much about Reson of Inerest. I have watched several episodes but don't get it. I find it boring and predictable. For me, The Good Wife is a better show. Both in quality and entertainment value.

Where's Justified, that show is absolutely nailing it's last season! I need to get back into the 100. Only watched a few episodes and didn't allow to get it's hooks in. And agreed, Black Sails, Vikings and Banshee are some of my favourite shows. With Justified ending and Sons of Anarchy (and the Mentalist... guilty pleasure) gone there is room for two or three more great shows to fill my time haha, currently giving Battle Creek a chance but so far I'm still not sure. I never finished the first season of Boardwalk Empire and never finished Person of Interests 3rd season so I need to get back into that. Any others I should keep my eyes peeled for? I've heard Outlander is good and I was enjoying Klondike and TURN but both are a little show n not a patch on Deadwood and shows like that. I think I also owe Hell on Wheels a visit for a season or two, I let that one slip away

Nothing is like Deadwood (I'm a big fan) but yes, do give Heel on Wheels a chance. It's good in its own way.

I see on your post a few shows that I enjoy myself, so I'll also recommend Hannibal, The Knick, Manhattan, Rectify (a little heavy but good) and The Blacklist (this one is a bit less serialized compared to the other ones, but it's interesting).

Also, do give Person of Interest another try (in my book it's one of the best on broadcasting networks right now) and revisit The 100. For me it started as a guilty pleasure and now I'm seriously addicted. Nothing guilty or silly about it!

As for Justified, others in the comments also expressed their preference to it instead of The Americans. I would say that although they're neck and neck, The Americans are slightly better. Try it if you haven't. A few episodes are enough to decide if it's for you or not.

Nice man, thank you for replying. Is The Americans the show set in the 60's and sleeper spies n stuff? If so I did make a note of it but haven't yet delved into it. Once Justified is gone I'll give it a go. Hannibal is great as well but I find it a little harder to get back into if I don't sit down and nail through it lol. I have all of season 2 on my TiVo box but I haven't finished the last 4 or 5 episodes yet. Hell on Wheels I left around mid season 3, not because I wasn't enjoying it just because I had so much to watch at the time lol. I like series long arcs more so than individual episodes (generally speaking) but shows like Hawaii 5-0 and the Mentalists just lightened the mood a bit especially when your knee deep in stuff like True Detective & Hannibal lol. PoI I'll give another go too. I recently did all of season 2 of Grimm in a week and I have to say that second season really suprised me at how good it was. I thought after the first season I was gonna bail because it wasn't really doing it for me but yea nicely suprised. Not seen season 3 or 4 yet though because Netflix doesn't have it and Amazon prime makes ya pay for it (here in the UK) Also gotta do Season 2 of Hemlock Grove at some point and of course Daredevil is coming out on Netflix in April so there's yet more to watch lol!! I'm really going to miss the dialogue writing of Justified when it's gone. anyways I'm rambling!! peace out man!

Hahaha! nice ramblings mate!

Very quickly, The Americans is set in the 80's, and yes it's about a couple who're active Russian spies. They have two kids who know nothing about it and their new neighbor is with the FBI. I'm not spoiling anything with the above, all this is part of the show's set up. I cannot recommend it enough, but then again tastes are not universal.

True, you really have to get into Hannibal to properly enjoy it and it can be hard getting back to it once you stop watching. But man, this is TV experience of a different level.

Same for me and Hell on Wheels. Still haven't watched the last season. But I'll watch it at some point (unless something else fancy comes in the way... damn, too much good TV out there).

What you do with Hawaii 5-0 and The Mentalist, I do with PoI and The Blacklist. You need something to lighten the load at times... No comedies for me, except for Community.

I gave Grimm two seasons and Hemlock Grove one, but I'm not going back. As I said before, tastes are not universal. That's what makes exchanges like this interesting.

Happy Viewings!

slayme, I may agree with you on some of your TV opinions but not on your political spin of "republican propananda and "everyone knows it." Why are some people so afraid of a different opinion that they try to suppress or eliminate it?
Do you really think that MSNBC is news, if you are one of the few people who actually watch it? The highpoints of MSNBC is when they have their paid correspondent, Rev Al Sharpton spewing his dreck. But MSNBC has the right to do that.

I hear a lot about Fox News and while I have no opinion on the matter (I'm not from the US so I can't have an opinion) I would like to point out that Fox News shall prove their quality when they continue to criticize a possible Republican government as vigorously as they do the current one. The same goes for all "News", i.e. not forgetting their roles when "friendly" governments are on top.

Most of the shows I watch, I don't even know what network they're on, unless it's the CW, HBO, Showtime, MTV (Teen Wolf!) or Netflix. The last 2 because I find the whole thing so novel. The first because the CW is so distinctive, and HBO and Showtime because yeah, when I sit down to watch one of their shows, I anticipate quality from the get-go. I watch shows from other networks, but I just stream them through non-network channels, and I have no idea where they come from.

The list is pretty decent, considering that I've no clue about most of the shows or networks listed.

CBS: The Good Wife (which beats anything, ever).
NBC: Hannibal, which is closely followed by Chicago PD.
The CW: The 100, tied with Jane The Virgin. Honorable mentions: Arrow and The Flash.
PBS: Downton Abbey.
FX: The Americans.
WGN America: Manhattan.
MTV: Teen Wolf (the best show on cable, including HBO).
HBO: Game of Thrones, with an honorable mention going to Looking.
Showtime: Shameless, just about tied with Penny Dreadful.
Amazon: Transparent.
Netflix: House of Cards.

Damn, that's a lot of TV.

My list is woefully short, as I don't watch even half of the listed networks...

NBC: Constantine (still no news on cancellation, so it counts. If it didn't, NBC would have no horse in the race for my viewership.)
ABC: Galavant (same thing, no word on season two, in which case, Once Upon A Time wins)
FOX: Sleepy Hollow (even if the second season sucked an entire bag of D's...)
CW: The Flash
CBS: The Big Bang Theory
AMC: The Walking Dead
FX: Louie
FXX: I am actually torn between It's Always Sunny and Man Seeking Woman...
TNT: The Librarians
USA: Sirens
Comedy Central: Key & Peele

Never saw Empire. I like SH but not as much as I once did, and Gotham is cool but not a favorite of mine. By "I hate Fox" I mean I hate the network, not the shows. Sorry (not sorry) but I do hate it with passion since it cancelled Firefly. As of now, I'm enjoying Arrow a bit more than the Flash, but on the whole I do think TF is the best CW has to offer at the moment. It's my opinion, not a fact.

I understand the Firefly issue which I share with you and many others but that was 12 years ago when all the networks messed around with shows.
Fox series like Daybreak, Dollhouse and Fringe come to mind of shows that have been given closure. The major networks still leave fans hanging at times but not as often these days. DVD sales and streaming probably are a motivation for some closure...
BTW if you like Sci-fi then check out 12 Monkeys (SyFi) and The Last Ship (TNT).

I have never seen Daybreak, or Fringe, or Dollhouse (though I was interested on the latter). I really still hate it because Firefly is still my favorite show. It had so much potential. I learned not to trust Fox, though I still watch it's shows. I saw the trailer for TLS and it really didn't interested me. I don't really know what 12 Monkeys is about, but i'll look it up as soon as I finish Daredevil. Thanks btw.

Well I guess I won't invite Tim over to binge watch TV.
The only matches were 12 Monkeys, The 100 and Game of Thrones. Three out of a very long list. Orphan Black is on my list to watch... so that might be another match.
For me the Major and Cable Network shows are ---
Blacklist, The 100 beats out Arrow, Gotham, Agents of SHIELD, The Walking Dead
Elsewhere add House of Cards, Downton Abbey and Real Housewives of BH.
Oh, And "Man in the High Castle" based on the pilot on Amazon. Great novel and looks like the series will do it proud.

I gotta say I'd personally pick Justified over The Americans, but just barely, and Mad Men is definitely AMC's best right now. That's not debatable.

yeah it's pretty bad when you pick Survivor as the best show on cbs - and it's actually true! although i'd argue that POI is better.

I don't really know much about the other channels, but The CW it's without a doubt or hesitation - 'The Originals'!
I see and have seen a lot of different shows and 'The Originals' is, by far, my all time favorite! It's original, with intriguing, deep characters, who you can't help but love, even if they're ruthless killers, oh and brilliant, dedicated actors!
I think I may have started on 'The 100', at some point, but the concept just didn't say anything...

ABC Family gotta be 'Melissa and Joey' :) I love the humor and atmosphere of the show.

However I agree that 'Vikings' on History is a brilliant show as well!

finally someone mentioned the originals and as if some people mentioned TVD which has been crap since season 3

Right?! The Originals deserves some more overall credit! I don't know, I liked season four of TVD as well. Actually season three and four was my favorites, courtesy to the Mikaelsons, not because of the cure thing, because that was positively boring, but the presence of the Mikaelson's made up for it :)

Was it really neccesary to even include Fox News when all you were going to do is make a smug, not very funny comment? Especially when MSNBC, Bloomberg, CNBC, Fusion, HLN, etc. wasn't included.

Ironic that some of the responses sound like a propaganda machine of their own ideology.
Don't understand their fear of a different voice being heard.
Never wanted to get political on an entertainment site but Tim's smarmy comment opened that door.

Yes - cause they are not news - they are just as much fiction as the next show. total republican propaganda network - it's NOT news - and everyone know it. Jon Stewart calls them out on their lies and propaganda on a nightly basis.

On the other hand, I appreciate any insult to Fox News, no matter where I find it. I guess it's just encouraging every time you realize there are others out there protesting the utter ridiculousness. I find just the existence of Fox News (well, the fact that anyone watches it) utterly depressing, so every little jab (whether reasonable in the context of the article or not) gives me a little more hope for humanity.

I guess you don't understand the concept of having different views in a free society.
The Soviet Union and Hitler's Germany had one unified news source. That sure worked out well for their people didn't it.
You don't have to like Fox, just as I think MSNBC is painfully bad... except when their paid analyst Rev Al Sharpton appears. Having two opposing views gives me a lot more hope for humanity than yours does.
I hope your depression at the existence of Fox News is under control...

Like Ugmiwatogla said - Fox""news"" is 100% right-wing propaganda paid for by super rich right-wing billionaire Rupert Murdoch. Go watch the excellent documentary Outfoxed and educate yourself to just how much of a propaganda machine fox"news" is.

I'm not sure you understand the concept of mass propaganda... it works even better when people have the illusion of choice...

I guess you didn't read Tim's political stuff during the past election. He likes MSNBC with Al Sharpton as one of it's paid contributors. Nuff said.

so what - that means Fox"news" isn't pure 100% right-wing propaganda? i'm glad Tim is smart enough to see through fox's BS - you should try thinking for yourself sometimes and not what fox"news" tells you to think.
