The Big Bang Theory and American Horror Story Lead the Winners at the Critics' Choice Awards

We told you the nominees a couple weeks ago, so we figured we should tell you the winners, too. The third annual Critics' Choice Television Awards were held last night in Hollywoodtown, and the ceremony finally definitively answered the questions of which actors and television shows are best at their jobs. Each winner was handed a statue that looked like a crystal mace, with which they were allowed to bludgeon the losers!

On the comedy side of things, The Big Bang Theory dominated the evening with wins for Best Comedy Series and both supporting actor categories. On the drama side, Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones split the award for Best Drama, with Walter White himself (Bryan Cranston) taking home the lead actor prize and surprise winner—unless you've actually seen her act—Tatiana Maslany taking home the lead actress award for Orphan Black.

But why got GoT the award, too? Breaking bad is whole other league.

Happy about TBBT & AHS's wins! I'm still bummed that they don't have a sci-fi/fantasy category.

Couple things.

a) Archer f*cking won something! Jesus, feels weird that the show gets recognition in a form of an award.

b) Really happy for Tatiana she deserves this and any other awards they want to throw at her. That was some amazing performance for a first season of a show. Some actresses can only dream of that much variability inside one show.

c) Congrats to TBBT actors for getting awards for not acting / playing themselves. Not everyday that a show gets recognition for having growthless characters and repeating the same jokes over and over again. Some offense. Don't get me wrong I don't think the show is horrible, it's a "good" sitcom. But to go as far as give them 3 or 4 awards when there's people out there actually trying, is ludicrous as far as i'm concerned.

d) Further congrats to Sarah Paulson and Zachary Quinto for their awards, but I have to say it is my opinion that James Cromwell had a more outstanding performance than Quinto.

Congratulations to Miss Maslany - hopefully this is a good signs of things to come for her this awards season. Her future potential is limitless. She looked gorgeous. They even let her present an award with Sam Trammell who clearly had no idea who this Canadian girl was.

Adam Pally, 'Happy Endings', did a good job making an jerk of himself when he presented; seemingly wallowing in self pity over the fact that no one wants his canceled show. He made a fool of himself and embarrassed his co presenter, the beautiful Emmy Rossum (who could have been upset she wasn't nominated for anything despite her wonderful performance this year on 'Shameless') and insulted one of the winners of the award he presented, Kaley Cuoco, deliberately mispronouncing her name, - seemingly because her show is still on the air and was winning awards. He should feel lucky these awards only aired on the internet. He was the exact opposite of the winner from a nother canceled show, Michael Cudlitz who was all class and dignity despite the fact that his dumb network canceled his show, a better show than Pally's. (Only mistake Cudlitz made was forgetting to thank his wife, which Brian Cranston sweetly corrected for Cudlitz when Cranston won.) Adam Pally may be out of work for a long time.

Patton Oswalt was awesome and immediately upon accepting the award offered to take Molly Shannon to lunch and have his name removed and hers placed on the award he just won because of her wonderful performance on "Enlightened". He owned the room when he won.

Matt Thompson accepting the award for 'Archer' may have been the funniest acceptance of the night promising to use the award as a marital aid when he got home. Foul but funny, just like 'Archer'. Only thing missing from the stage was Amber Nash.

Ok calm down. First of all, I didn't watch this so I presume those things you said about Adam was true so and yes what he did was a jerk move but criticizing his "canceled show" just because one actor made a jerk move, OK.

btw, have you seen Happy Endings? I'm pretty sure you haven't. (yes I'm a bitter fan so what?)

I have and its a really decent show, that is still network crap, but he was a complete tool. That was one of the biggest moments of Eden Sher's young life (per her, only overshadowed by her mitzvah), he shared a network with her, and his drunk hissy fit pissed all over her moment. Her utter joy at winning was one of the moments of the night and he just sat there stomping his feet refusing to read off the teleprompter because he was angry. Guess what, on that kind of evening, no one cares your show got canceled. He behaved like a baby.

'Game of Thrones' had a great season, it's best so far in my humble opinion, but 'Homeland' is something really amazing and much more compelling and interesting, again it's just an opinion. One one the reasons I love Homeland so much is because of the superbly convincing, nuanced and powerful performances of he 2 main actors and, although I didn't saw the performances of the actors who won, I can't imagine them being better, because it's just not possible, at least from my point of view and how I saw those two characters. 'Breaking Bad' only saw the first season and don't find it entertaining or interesting enough to continue to watch. I really don't see what the fuss is about that show, or about 'American Horror Story', another show I stopped watching after seeing the boring first season. Shock, horror and characters put in extreme situations just for the sake of it, just to make you feel uncomfortable and curious about how things are going to get resolved, with no interesting or at least thought provoking points made in the process, doesn't cut it for me, it's not valuable entertainment, no matter how well made and acted. I rather spend that time watching a comedy that can make me smile and sometimes laugh, like 'New Girl', my favorite this year, with 'The Big Bang Theory' coming in second.

I watched The Americans, and inda thought Homeland has something to prove in season 3, not sure why, or where the show will head now? The Americans is definitely worth a watch imo. As for Homeland, Season 1 was great, season 2 , well.... Carrie is still a strong-ish character, i just thought season finale felt cut and pasted in, didnt seem to flow. season 1 was much better, and season 2 finale was sort of meh ok. Breaking Bad I kind of agreed with, initially, but if you come back to it, it really gets outstanding, especially season 4. it`s all about opinions, its just great that there`s so much good TV out there for everyone to like!

There are plenty of hits and quite a few misses. And while I understand that an equal amount of voters can vote for two shows causing a tie, TIES SUCK. However, the only thing that really matters to me is Tatiaaaaaaaaaaaaaanaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

ORPHAN BLACK
TATIANA MASLANY

Everything else can eat shit. Well, okay, not really... Breaking Bad is still the best and I love a lot of other shows... but for the sake of this comment, EAT SHIT EVERYTHING ELSE. ORPHAN BLACK!

I love that the critics knew they had to give reality show to Duck Dynasty because its the only reality show that puts up crazy good viewership ratings but they gave it a tie with some crap nobody has heard of to let their liberal progressive selves sleep at night.

Never heard of Maslany before Orphan Black. If I ever saw her, I don't remember. I just finished Orphan Black last night and agree it's was one of the best shows I've seen in a while. I never looked her up, but I did think she was actually British - Not helped by being a show for BBC America, I guess. I kind of wish she was, but no matter. "Felix" looked familiar and I did look him up to find he was on that Cartoon Network show Unnatural History. I hope the next season maintains the quality of the first and wonder who else they may have her be. I will miss "Helena" though...Unless she survives?

I like to think that after her win, the other actresses in her category must have been wondering, "What the hell is Orphan Black?"

wow, they got more right then I expected!

Everything good for Breaking Bad and GoT.

Yea-->Actors from the amazing shows such as AHS (but Jessica Lange should of won the category she was in and same goes for Lily Rabe), ARCHER, Southland (Cudlitz) and my favorite "surprise" but well deserved was Tatiana's win (Orphan Black)!!!

Abigail Spencer (Rectify) deserved an award imo.
Best miniseries should be American Horror Story: Asylum – FX (isn't Top of the Lake getting a season 2? Even if not, AHS was better even though both shows are great).
Anyone should of beat Fonda...I'd pick Jim Beaver (Justified) – FX.
Face Off is probably the best reality competition series imo.
Cat Deeley is the best host of a reality competition series imo.

Still they got more right then I expected;-)
ORPHAN BLACK--actor (or are they still called actresses...lol)
BREAKING BAD
AHS--actors/actresses
GoT
ARCHER
SOUTHLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I miss you! RIP

Tatiana for best actress and best supporting actress...FTW!!

American Horror Story gets a little bit of hate during these awards things because frankly, it doesn't really fit into the miniseries section; it's 13 episodes. Granted the seasons are (mostly) self-contained but that's still a high number for a mini-series.

It used to be: miniseries were like 3 or 4 episodes. Pretty much enough for 1 long movie, or 2 short ones. At 13, that's over 9 hours of screen time. That's not very "mini" and many basic-cable shows are around that length so it really should fall into a regular TV show.

So you wind up comparing classic mini-series / movie to an entire cable season of a show. It's like comparing apples and apple pie.

Having a tie in a category let alone multiple ones is just lame. Whats the point in an awards show if there is not a winner, be it decided among any other criteria.

And when Tatiana says thanks to the critics for talking about the show its what got her there.... that goes to this sites users as well. Not necessarily the site however, because as usual they were late to a good thing. The effort in the end was appreciated but how about staying on top of what the people who use this site are talking about? Theyre a smart bunch.

You tell em!
listen to the PEOPLE here!
users (KW and others) recommended Rectify, Orphan Black, Top of the Lake, Broadchurch (not nominated here but mentioned here by users and is a great drama/mystery) and so many more shows.
I was watching POI, Justified, and Breaking Bad before I discovered this site.
I do love this site but I think I "love" the users more;-)
I don't remember who recommended Orphan Black to me but xoxo to that/those people (users here).
Thanks JS (where are you) for getting me hooked on Archer;-)

If you love Archer have you ever checked out Frisky Dingo? Same guys made it and it's basically a prototype for Archer...a similar character, similar jokes, an ongoing story structure, not just one-offs. It's not quite up to Archer standards but Archer had 30 min eps, this only has 11 mins. but it's still very good & the main "bad guy" KillFace is great. Well worth a watch imo.

'Sealab 2021' has been airing on Adult Swim the past month and I think the dialogue and scene transitions from 'Archer' were born here as well as 'Frisky Dingo'. (As was Capt. Murphy!) 'Sealab 2021' still may have the best opening theme song of the past 20 years, if not Sealab than 'Psych'.

Agreed & it was so fun to see Captain Murphy! Seeing him get crushed by a soda machine was such a great callback. Totally with you on the theme song, I sing it each and every time! I've never heard Psych's theme, but for me Sealab's is right up there with Comedy Bang! Bang!

I'm hoping the Emmy's takes note of this. As far as I can remember, Breaking Bad never won for best drama, (nor has GoT). I'm kinda glad that Mad Men is winding down on the award wins. I'm pretty sure Tatiana is going to be the biggest surprise during this season's award shows. I hope she maintains the momentum and win it all.

Sad to see that Hannibal isn't getting any award show buzz. I swear if that show had better ratings and was on a different network, it would get some nominations.

You should definitely watch Orphan Black. I was in your position about a week ago and figured I'd give it ago since it was getting a good buzz around here and my fellow TV-dot com-ers are usually on the mark about good shows.

I don't think she expected herself to win and what we saw was genuine excitement rather then a "prepared speech". Even if she had a prepared speech I think it got "lost" in her excitement when she gave her thanks.
