The Chaser returns for 2009

Cheeky chaser boys Chas and Julian.

Uh, oh. Julian, Craig, Chas, Chris and Andrew are heading back to our screens in 2009. That means none of us are safe.

Yes, The Chaser's War on Everything will be back to harass politicians, sing dodgy musical numbers, prank corporate businesses and make fun of everyone except Anna Coren. Maybe Matt White might want to lock the door in the Today Tonight office?

But there are just ten episodes promised by the ABC. Sounds like they have taken a note from the Working Dog team -- quit while you're ahead and leave them wanting more?

Meanwhile John Safran, who first started out on the ABC's Race Around the World, will also return for his globe-trotting John Safran's Race Relations. He has already lambasted the music industry, religion and Ray Martin's rubbish bin.

Jonathan Welch, seen most recently in Seven's Battle of the Choirs, also returns to lead a choir of female prisoners in a Christmas concert for Prison Sings. ABC says it will help them prepare for life on the outside. Soapie fans might remember the stars of Prisoner giving a real life concert to cell mates during the 80s!

There are new six-part dramas with familiar faces. John Wood stars in the sports management series The Cut while Joel Edgerton in the mining drama Dirt Game.

Andrew Denton will produce a new series putting "thinkers and cage-rattlers" into a room and forcing them to come up with "an irreverent program about serious things." That's called Project NEXT.

ABC also announced second seasons for The Librarians, East of Everything and Bed of Roses.
