That sound you hear is Seth MacFarlane's wallet exploding from being jammed pack with cash. The animation mogul (we can call him a mogul now, right?) is knocking out hit after hit, and his latest--The Cleveland Show--is the highest-rated new show of the season. So it makes sense that Fox has picked it up for a full season today... it just so happens that the pick-up is for the show's second season.
Wait, what?
The Cleveland Show had been picked up by Fox for a full season-and-a-half before the show even premiered, so today's announcement means the network is adding nine episodes to the second season (which will end sometime in 2011). And with animated shows taking longer to produce, a bit of a head start is needed to get them on the air.
Curiosity has propelled The Cleveland Show to a 4.5 rating among the 18-49 demographic, but considering the critical panning the show has taken (we weren't fans either), it's pretty remarkable that, only three episodes into the first season, The Cleveland Show has earned a TWO-season guarantee.

I like family guy, but this just seems to be milking a concept...
i like king of the hill and this replaced it danget.
Oops, forgot, THIS SHOW REPLACED KING OF THE HILL!
The Cleaveland Show SUCKS. I tried one episodes and didn't laugh once. They try, but I'll be damned if it shows.I'm not trying to offend people that like it, I just honestly don't get the humor. I love other animated comedies like The Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, and Beavis and Butthead, but this, and American Dad, I just don't get.
cant wait for the next episode, Y'all
My gf hates Family Guy, but actually likes the Cleveland Show. The show isn't as good as Family Guy, but isn't half bad on its own. The only problem is that they're spreading themselves too thin, because now American Dad is starting to become a little stale.
In any case, none of these shows suck as hard as the Simpsons does nowadays. I can't see 3 shows lasting very long considering the major drain it will put on the creators' talents, but if Seth MacFarlane wants to have fun with a spin-off for a few years, why not? I don't see any better shows worthy of taking its place. "Arrested Development" was canceled a looong time ago and Firefly isn't even a comedy.
I, for one, enjoy watching television on Sunday nights for the first time since before they canceled Futurama and the Simpsons didn't suck. And LOL@the guy who lets a South Park episode influence his enjoyment of another tv show. If it entertains you, then who the hell cares if the show is a vehicle for nonsequitur comedy bits?moreless
Family Guy isn't perfect, but it's worth watch for a few chuckles. Once in a while they pull out an episode I love like 'Meet the quagmires'. I still think it's better than the current simpsons episodes. Cleveland was always sorta a boring side character and I couldn't understand how he got his own show. I saw the first episode and wasn't interested at all. You could say give it time, but I don't really think it deserves it.
This show's good, but not like Family Guy :P.
Oh shut up all of you. Fox knows exactly what they are doing.
the opinions of critics don't matter. if the rating are high then it gets stays. it's fans versus critics and right now there are more fans.
i mean it doesnt get canceled opps
wait what..Arrested Development and Firefly get canned and this unfunny one does. gets me thinking what dirt does Seth have on FOX Network?
I like the show.
I dont really agree with this because the 1st episode was crap but the third episode was good. Anyway, with just 3 episodes they have been promised with 2 seasons! That is just stupid.
Even if people don't like Seth MacFarlane or his shows, they can't deny that he knows how to make money in tv.
"Da Doggone Daddy Daughter Dinner Dance"Nuff said.
I didn't enjoy the pilot and have no desire to watch any more episodes. It simply wasn't funny.I found that it had a bit of a black stereotype feel to it that kind of made it seem like just another "black comedy". Nothing special, and certainly not worth a second season.
I actually really like the show...
i just watch the new episode last Sunday i got a few chuckles out of it but nothing more. its just a rip of family guy and i don't need this guy to tell me all i did was watch the first episode and i could tell. and that's far from a good thing seeing how much family guy has sucked the last few years. i like American dad better because it is its own thing and not some poor ripe off but i would not be to sad to see it go.
woooooooooow. this show needs to get cancelled, not renewed. i say cancel everything on fox's sunday night lineup except the simpsons. and all networks should cancel their reality crap.. i mean.. "shows"
You're Welcome.
Sigh, MacFarlane needs to pause and think of new good material for his other shows, not create another one... Family Guy really needs a brake - it's quality has been declining. And the best seasons of the show were the ones when it came back from cancellation.
Ever since the battle with South Park and the Manatees I just have not been able to enjoy Family Guy. They pointed out too many things that now annoy me about the show. This is just the same show but less funny.
The third episode was way better than the first two. I hope by the end of the first season it'll be just a step under Family Guy. But IMO it's already better than American Dad.
people are sheep, its a good show, not as funny as family guy but good
why do they waste their time, its not even funny!
No one has ever accused fox of being smart.
WTF!This show sucks, the comedy is dry
I can't believe this. Have we entered a black hole to an alternate universe where good shows bite the dust and crap like this gets instant renewal. If this was NBC rather than FOX I could understand it.
Really?? Wow they cancel Arrested Development and are already ordering Season 2 episodes of this terrible show after just three episodes??
WHY?? WHY!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?! i couldn't even get through the pilot. just awful.
I wouldn't wipe my a** with that show.
I like the show, it's grown on me over the past 3 episode. The first wasn't that great but I did enjoy the latest one. Hell, American Dad grew on me too, didn't start out liking it that much but something about Seth's cartoons seem to grab you anyway.
hey come on! give cleveland a chance to shine even further (not in the slipping out of the bathtub way though...)
Family Guy is awsome but The Cleveland Show its... not that great
XO XO
:):):):)
It was terrible to begin with. It's getting better so it's now falling into the bad range. It's just not funny. So far it's been somewhat cruel and just plain mean at times.
I like this show too. I don't know what people expected. Given the last few years of Family Guy, did people expect this to to be mind-blowingly awesome? I thought it was funny enough.
That's great the show is very funny!!!
It's getting better, at least. I wouldnt call it a complete bust.
Guess I got another show besides Leno to not watch next year too.
ok now i get it i forgot they added 4 eps to the 2nd season a while back making it 13. so now the second season will have 22 eps as well weird considering its ratings are only a little higher than american dads and its still not higher than family guy
can you please explain how many episodes have been added to the second season? i know the first season is set to have 22 eps susposedly. and the second season was suposed to have nine eps. so how many eps will the second season be now that more were added? 22?
This show's pretty good. Not the best, but yeah not much else on aye?
Seth MacFarlane's bit of a douche
I actually like this show, and am happy about the pickup, though it may not be wise.
i wouldnt call it a hit, i'd call it fox giving up on their fall lineup
I agree with most everybody, the show's nothing special
It's only adding half a season to a previous announcement so it's not that big a deal...its clear though that Fox sees something in the overall audience ratings that they like.
