The CW Announces Its Fall 2013 Premiere Dates, Holds Everything Until October (Again)

It kinda sorta worked last year, so why not do it again? The CW has announced its premiere dates for the 2013 fall season, and for the second straight year in a row, the network is holding its shows until October. The later start gives The CW a chance to let the major networks fight among themselves. CBS and NBC have already announced their premiere dates, which take up most of the traditional late-September model. A delayed debut also means fewer repeats later in the season, something the network's younger, ADD-afflicted demographic HATES.

The CW is also strategically staggering its premieres for maximum TV NOW-age. The Vampire Diaries-spinoff The Originals (as well as Supernatural's ninth season) will start a week later than most of The CW's other fare—on Tuesday, October 15—in order to get a boost from its maker; the network probably figures a little extra promo during TVD's premiere (on Thursday, October 10) will help launch The Originals. And The Carrie Diaries and America's Next Top Model will kick off their Friday-night pairing even later, on October 25, because who knows why? I welcome all your theories in the comments section. My guess? The Carries Diaries is only getting 13 episodes, and the network would like to run 'em with limited repeats, plan some sort of "midseason finale" episode, and finish the season in early 2014 to give the final season of Nikita a boost.

By the way anyone who doesn't know, The Vampire Diaries and The Originals aren't airing at the same time. TO is Tuesdays @8, and TVD is Thursdays @8.

I also stopped watching all my shows on the CW when they come on (except the Originals because I don't want that to get cancelled) so they won't get my rating & maybe they'll bring back TSC. I wouldn't even care if TVD got cancelled because Season 5 has sucked so bad.

PLEASE I NEES THE SECRET CIRCLE!! I ended up watching it on Netflix and then found out it was CANCELLED!! I can't tell you how many people I know that's happened to!! The CW hardly advertised it when it was on! And not to mention THE WAY IT LEFT OFF!! I wanna see the Blackwell circle / witches! I'm dying to know what happened with Adam and the black skull! PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!

I think the fact they only need to watch an episode once to get the story shows that CW demographics as having a high attention spans.

I'll be watching my faves Arrow, Beauty and the Beast, TVD, and the final episodes of Nikita, and I will also continue to watch Supernatural even though it's starting to go down hill. I will also definitely watch The Tomorrow People and give Reign a chance.

Also looking forward to The 100. Wished that it's airing in the fall instead of at midseason. They should've replaced Reign with it so that Reign premieres midseason because frankly, that show doesn't look interesting at all whereas The 100 has a lot of potential. Again, not watching BATB because it's trash and I still blame it for TSC's cancellation.

TVD, SPN, The Originals, Arrow and The Tomorrow People. Still can't believe that they're delaying Nikita.

@SamuelMachado - I'm pretty sure that the writers will give us an awesome ending knowing what they've given use the past three seasons.

Putting SN in the Friday night death spot will likely be as much of the final nail in the Winchester boys' coffins as it was kryptonite for Clark Kent.

Thanks for the catch; careless of both CW and me; still, pulling it from "Arrow" is not a good sign. I am also waiting for a "very special" episode in which Dean discovers demons doing body harvesting when he must go into the hospital for a knee replacement.

Well, I'm a little impressed! It's not fantastic, but there is some interesting shows here... I think I would be seeing five shows from CW (let's see if the new ones are great), what seems like a record to me!

Not good signs for THE 100 already. It was pegged as "COMING THIS FALL" so if it's already been pushed back to mid season I don't like it's chances which is a shame because i think it would've been a brilliant show.

They've been saying it will be starting midseason for a while now...? For a couple of months, now. I wouldn't worry about it.

Hmmm...
Let's see here!

Oh, Yes i remember now...
It's only the following come into theme styles category about "Action, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Crime, Mystery, Romance and Drama" terms...
-> Beauty and the Beast
-> Arrow
-> The Tomorrow People

I am sick and tired of shows like The Vampire Diaries or The Oringals on Network Channels Broadcast...
If i want watch those kind of theme styles category about "Drama, Crime, Mystery, Horror Romance and Supernatural" terms?
I will stick to watching them on Cable Tv broadcasting much better indeed of course...

I thought "The Originals" was made to be broadcasted between seasons of "The Vampire Diaries".

You're thinking of OUAT: Wonderland which was originally supposed to air between seasons of OUAT.

When you've got so little, why not just wait as long as possible until people are already bored with the networks? Oh, right, because you're actually hoping to GRAB their attention, sorry. This idea seems like it'd work better for a small-fry like The CW than a big boy like NBC because there's no way The CW can jump into the fight early and hope to survive, they can exist solely on scraps after the big guys have slugged it out; NBC should not be hoping to risk that strategy though, they are too big to live on scraps of audiences.

On the other hand, it's The CW, who cares?

I think the only one I'll be watching live is Arrow. I doubt I'll be catching up with Supernatural before the next season start.

Actually looking forward to most of these shows, except Reign. That looks horrible. Hart of Dixie is a little hard to get into, I'm still not halfway through season 1. I waited a while to catch up with The Carrie Diaries, but that show was much more fun than I expected it to be! I also hope the CW don't screw up The Originals, it has potential to be great.
