The CW Cancels America's Next Top Model

And just like that an American institution is gone. After 22 cycles, America’s Next Top Model's runway will go dark, TV.com has confirmed. Professional smizer and host Tyra Banks tweeted the news on Wednesday.

The CW later confirmed that the show’s current cycle will be its last, with the series finale airing on Friday, December 4 at 9pm.

America’s Next Top Model premiered in May 2003 on UPN and later became the first series to premiere when the CW launched on September 20, 2006. Sources say that the network is currently looking at a possible retrospective special about the show to air in 2016.

America’s Next Top Model airs Fridays at 9pm on the CW. Will you miss it?

For some people, America's Next Top Model didn't mean much to them, Top model meant everything to me and it really breaks my heart to hear that Tyra will not be going on with the show.

The only show I was interested in every since I was younger, is now gone, I had plans for ANTM. Now I'll never be able to experience what I thought will come one day.So this is heartbreaking for me, I don't have too many talents, so I know I would've done a good job of proving this to myself .

Yeah, anyone can go to a modeling agency BUT this experience would've been a one in a lifetime experience , you get a chance to be on TV, and learn from your idol, travel, meet new people and get a chance to see what it's really like to be a model and possibly becoming ANTM. I had a passion for ANTM.

This is actually great news. The CW already had more great shows than they knew what to do with; Especially taking into consideration they're thinking of making iZombie a full length season. I see this as nothing more than cutting out the metaphorical TV cancer that is "Reality Television".

It had its time, now it must end. Never really watched it, but have no doubt it'll have some sort of reboot 5-7 years down the line.

I watched a couple seasons here and there but I never really cared. Less Top Model means more shows CW gets to keep.

I'm sad it's cancelled & will miss it butcim not suprised-it went to Fri ,to summers,to one cycle a year, bounced back & forth between Fri in fall & another night in sypummer, little pronotion& Tyra said earlier this summer this may be the end ,she wanted it to go out on a high note.Plus since Czw only cancelled two shows in May though I suspect Dates & Siginifscnt Mother & Crazy Ex Girlfriend s cancellation will be announced soon.I do wonder why they announced BatB,ANTM cancellation separately ,it'd save time, money, effort & be more cohevise& easier and easier for the viewing public to announce them together.12 years & 22 seasons is impressive ,not many shows can say that ran that long.I do worry that Batzb,ANTzm are CBS on CW and they're gone and Crazy Ex is also CBS-that'll be three CBS shows gone ,is Czbzs getting kicked out of CW or Wanting out? Then again, they could do like they've in the past and pick up 2-3 new CBS shows to keep the balance & keep CBS happy.

22 Cycles! That's our longest-running modeling show ever! How many other shows can say they got to 22 cycles? None! (Because nobody else uses "cycles" to define their twice a year shows.) Bye bye, Tyra. Maybe you shouldn't have done 2 cycles a year.

Any hope for the return of an old favourite now that this has gone? The Secret Circle? 90210 to wrap up better than it did? (yes to me it was a favourite) Reaper? Runaway? (god i loved that show)

or is this just wishful thinking?

On a very shallow note - who is that girl in the picture? she looks like Olivia Wilde

Can't believe this show was still on. It seemed like a parody of itself the one time I watched. Good riddance to this garbage.

Now, here's some depressing news worth reporting:

Whether it's 12 years or 22 seasons, that's a pretty impressive run.
Did it produce anyone of note during that time or was it just a platform for the judges, producers, and advertisers, like most other reality contests?

And they've produced so many famous top models! Like... that one who married the Brady kid. And... that... other one?

I haven't watched in years, but I feel the only recognizable model it produced is Yaya. What happened to all the others?

There was that one girl named Adrianne Curry that married Christopher Knight of the Brady Bunch during a reality show they did together. It lasted 6 years. Last I saw of her she was in an acne commercial or something and he was plugging hair implants...or something.

Don't know of any others, as I did watch this at one time, but only for like the first three seasons, give or take.

Finally, I stopped watching 8 or 9 years ago. It just became too boring, & predictable, pretty faces and all.

When a 12-year-old show has 22 seasons, you know it's been too much.

But, but, but where will adolescent boys in the throws of puberty go to see skinny girls with pretty faces? Oh, wait...

Seriously, though, it makes a lot of sense for the CW to do this given their current trajectory. I'm honestly surprised the show lasted as long as it did. 2003 you say? Seems like it's been around a lot longer than that.

if you had watched this show would know how vehemently Tyra was against models who were too skinny. she even sent models home because they had eating disorders. if they didnt improve in putting on weight they would get the boot. Plus a plus size model won a cycle...

This makes sense since The CW has a full roster of great shows and doesn't seem to have space for them all.

I like how Tyra tried to make it seem like it was her decision LMAO

Oh what a shame! (Evan the goodbye tweet is pretentious and fake) Get rid of the "reality" programs/ "scripted reality" S**T.

I don't mind competitions or following of people doing there jobs documentaries but without external influence!

Anyone up for a Gordie Shore Wickerman fire to make sure the genre dies for good!
