The CW Renews Nikita and The Carrie Diaries

"Yeah, expected," and "WHAT IN THE WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS!?!?!?" That was my reaction to the news that The CW has renewed Nikita and The Carrie Diaries, as reported by Deadline Hollywood

The smart money was on The CW renewing Nikita for a final season. Deadline's story says the renewal will be brief, with a six-episode fourth season wrapping up the series' run. The CW has not officially announced an episode count just yet, however.

As for The Carrie Diaries, total shock. Popular opinion was that EITHER Nikita or The Carrie Diaries would return, but The CW went ahead and renewed 'em both. There's no word on how long The Carrie Diaries' second season will be, but Deadline says the show is looking at a 13-episode order for midseason.

That means The CW's schedule next season will include Arrow, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, Hart of Dixie, The Carrie Diaries, Nikita, and new series The Originals, The 100, The Tomorrow People, Star-Crossed, and Reign.

I'm actually pleased about The Carrie Diaries. It's a delightful show. I like a show that shows kids that actually look like teens, behaving the way teens do, in a really cute, sweet, funny, retro kind of way. Good for them.

BEST news this week especially after TOUCH is not renewed. The Carries diaries is not perfect but it is certainly not the worst show on TV. Now I just hope they will fast forward a few years so even if it gets cancel after season 2 we will see more of Carrie.

glad nikita is coming back...even though it is for only 6 eps. hopefully they give us a satisfying ending.

I think it is not confirmed it is 6 eps. I hope they have more ! I also hoped its a good ending and not one of them (Nikki or Michael) getting killed.

Yeah Nikita! I guess DVD sales and overseas love is good for something. 6 episodes would not be enough to hit the syndication threshhold so I'm thinking 14. They will have 66 episodes at close of this season and the syndication threshhold is about 80 for hour long dramas. Runner Craig Silverstein tweeted shortened season but didn't say how many. This is great news. Its numbers were almost as good as 'Carrie Diaries' and that show had a great day and time DURING THE WEEK. This show is fantastic; can't wait to see how it sets up for the closure as this great season closes up.

Just six eps?? I don't believe that. Doesn't make any sense to me. The only time I ever heard of a six ep season was True Calling, but it was canceleed after the eps were filmed. I doubt the studio would even bother filming six eps. And the CW would even bother scheduling them. I think it's gonnaa be a 16 eps and if the rating are good, they'll continue on. So pretty much the same treatment they did gave to Nikita this year.

I'm pleased that CW is giving Nikita a proper send off, showing appreciation to the viewers that have watched.

Maybe, just maybe, "some" networks are realizing that burning viewers too many times results in boycotting untrusted networks' new shows out of self-defense (NBC!)

Nikita was a bit sophomoric in its first season, but decent enough. It really grew up a bit in the second season, which I think is the best. This last season is a little hit and miss. Micheal getting his hand cut off then just laser-sewed back on jumped the shark a bit for me. On top of that, they seem to have cut the budget or something, as the show seems lacking in some ways including the energy the second season had. Those final six episodes are great if they truly wrap things up. They should do it as a mini-series of two-hour movies and give it the money to go out with a bang.

They never gave Ringer a finale, I am still upset about that.

Oh I never watched Ringer. Love SMG but I never watched... So finale wasn't much a finale?
Reply

Like The Secret Circle wasn't much of a finale, but If you look past the last scene, than it was a decent "last episode" I think. Lol

"Yeah, expected,"

I don't know how you could expect it after they issued a press release that said that pretty much everything else including Beauty and the Beast was getting renewed.

I guess it's better than nothing for Nikita. Alex is pretty much the Jar-Jar of the show for me, but it's definitely good enough to watch.

Be thankful she does not look like Jar-Jar. It helps.

Yeah, you'd think so, but the hot-to-stupid ratio is so far underwater, it's hard for me to even appreciate her looks anymore. All I see is Stupid. Hurts to say, but brains and personality matter too much.

Yeah Alex is fine. Could watch her the whole show lol.

THIS JUST IN: The CW renews Guys With Kids, Whitney, 1600 Penn, Up All Night, Ben and Kate, that show based on the Geico cavemen from four years ago, and My Mother The Car. All 22 episode orders!

I HAVEN'T BEEN THIS EXCITED ABOUT A RENEWAL SINCE FRINGE!!!

Seriously, I love Nikita. But c'mon, CW! Give it more than 6 episodes. That would be an Amanda move.

All over the internet people are just making wild guesses as to the order. Mark my words - the number will be 14 unless the syndication threshhold is changing again because it seems the only reason it is coming back is for syndication. Its too bad they didn't give this show the spot they gave 'Carrie Diaries' - it may have made the numbers to get a full season. It made the same numbers on Friday that 'CD' had in a prime location, Monday 8pm. This network is run by morons but I guess thanks to the morons for bringing back a good show.

Yes, give it 13 episodes. I prefer 22 but 13 at least.

I wasn't happy about season one of Carrie Diaries. Overral they focused on wrong plot directions and on the wrong characters. For example, less high school drama (more NY) and less Mouse character (or not at all) season 2 would look much better. I am happy though for the renewal (was not expecting it to be honest) and really hope the show dramatically improves cause there is potential. As for Nikita is concerned, a 6 or even 13 episode final season is more than fair and pretty much perfect news for the show to give a proper ending!

In all honesty I don't think anyone expected The Carrie Diaries to be picked up after the announcement of the Beauty &the Beast renewal last week. I was surprised Nikita made it this far with terrible ratings over the last 2 years. I find it surprising that the CW renewed all their scripted shows that they didn't cancel mid-run (i.e. Emily Owens, M.D. and Cult).

TheCW acts in mysterious ways. It did cancel The secret circle last year and kept 90210, Hart of dixie, Gossip Girl and Nikita; all with much lower ratings than TSC.

I'm kinda really happy about The Carrie Diaries. The CW was in need of a feel-good show after they cancelled Emily Owens, M.D.. But on the other hand, I'm kinda of bummer too. The Carrie Diaries is an okay show. The Secret Circle last year was ah-mazing! And they cancelled that but keep this? Really, it's good that I get to keep The Carrie Diaries. I really think that's the right choice. But come on: TSC obviously didn't deserve the axe now, did it?

This pretty much says that ANTM will move to summer. I knew there was a chance that TCD would be renewed. And Nikita's renewal was obvious. Another 22 episodes to reach syndication (probably)

I'm kinda hoping Phoebe Tonkin dies on The Originals and then they renew TSC (just like what's apparently happening with 24!) and I wish they'd picked up The Selection instead of TCD!! That sounds way better!
