The CW Renews Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, Top Model, and 90210

Vampire Diaries."" link="/katie-couric/person/104228/summary.html" target="_blank" loc="left">

... The CW has just announced early pickups for five its its establish series, and those five series are: America's Next Top Model (featuring all-stars from past cycles!), 90210, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, and Supernatural. Rejoice appropriately in the comments. [CW via press release]

... The buzz surrounding Katie Couric's potential exit from CBS' Evening News is no longer buzzworthy. Couric has confirmed that she's leaving the news show and is looking for a different show format "to engage in more multi-dimensional storytelling." In other words, something other than straight news. Rumors say that Couric is choosing between staying at CBS or moving to ABC. [People]

... Week 2 of Game of Thrones was a good one (unless you happen to be a certain something who got shanked), with ratings of the under-the-microscope series steady from its premiere week, a good sign. The 9pm airing drew 2.2 million viewers, and the encore grabbed another 732,000 viewers, putting the second episode in line with the series premiere. The second-season premiere of Treme, however, fell dramatically from its first season, netting only 605,000 viewers. [Deadline Hollywood]

... Olivia Munn's first stab at scripted TV didn't go so well. Perfect Couples fizzled out at NBC, and now it looks like Munn has learned her lesson regarding network television. Munn is in discussions to join HBO's More as the Story Develops, the drama about a 24-hour cable news network written by Aaron Sorkin. She'd play a financial analyst on the faux cable channel. It goes without saying that her character is described as "sexy." [Deadline Hollywood]

... Tyler Perry has taken another step toward taking over TBS, with a third show greenlighted by the basic cable channel. For Better or Worse is said to be a spin-off of Perry's film Why Did I Get Married? and stars Michael Jai White, Tasha Smith, and Rick Fox. Perry already has a Seth-MacFarlane-esque pair of shows on the network; For Better or Worse would make it three. [LA Times]

... You've been dying to know when Keith Olbermann is returning to cable, haven't you? Well, the date is set for June 20, on Current TV. The new show will be called Countdown With Keith Olbermann. [Broadcasting & Cable]

... Actor William Forsythe is joining HBO's Boardwalk Empire to play gangster Manny Horowitz. Forsythe is no stranger to gangster shows, as he played Al Capone in the 1990s series The Untouchables. [THR]

... Two men decided to reenact the final scene of the first episode of Game of Thrones while arguing about "which characters were going to win" the show. One Florida man and his cousin began exchanging blows over the show, with the cousin eventually being thrown out of the window. Luckily for them, it was a first-floor apartment. Unlucky for us, it wasn't on top of The Wall. [The Smoking Gun]

I was in the cancel Supernatural after season 5 camp, and I stayed there until this last episode, during which they redeemed the whole season for me. I see at least one way forward that restores the show to its former glory, and I'm sure the writers can come up with more than me. -- For those that don't understand the appeal of the vampire diaries: it's not the show it started out to be. It's ridiculous. In a good way. In the way The Event badly wishes it was. Try watching a couple of episodes, and following each one with reading one of Price's recaps. You'll get double the entertainment value. The show really turned around by the end of season 1. You could start with the beginning of season 2. Am I prepared to say it's better than True Blood? No, it's bad, but it seems to be self-aware and kind of owns it, like Evil Dead 2. I think I could actually say season 2 of TVD is better than season 2 of TB was.

Seriously I dont get any of you Season 6 Supernatural haters, You guys are morons and the irony for their reasons are even more laughable. I find season 6 to be better then Season 5 tbh. Maybe thats cause I dont base my entire reason on the kripke thingy and other silly stuff. Not to mention It has realy sounded like kripke has enjoyed this season and he continiues to be on the set and etc. While these split Supernatural fans wage a war in his name pretty much, Acting the oposit of his wishes and use reasons which again is oposit for the very reason they like & enjoy the show. lolz. Hillarious tho

Heard a rumor that Misha Collins wasn't offered a contract for the (crap IMO) seventh season of Supernatural. THAT would be frickin' godsend, pun TOTALLY intended. End the ridiculous angel war story line and get rid of his character for good. So at least if they're gonna make another horrible season, it'll be about the boys. And NO, I'm not some nasty sicko slasher. I want my show back to two brothers on the road. So I pray the rumor about Misha is true.

I was so pleased to see that Supernatural, Gossip Girl & Vampire Diaries would be returning, but what about Nikita? It isn't often you see strong women kicking butt on TV. I know OTH is low in the ratings, but I do enjoy watching it also.

I'm just glad that Vampire Diaries is renewed, a world without Price Peterson's recaps of this show would seem a little bleaker, am I right?

I am so happy that Supernatural got renewed. I am hoping that Misha Collins/Castiel will be used more in Season 7. This is definitely my favorite show. I like Vampire Diaries, too. I am surprised that Gossip Girl got renewed. This season was so weak. The actors also want to quit. Not a good sign.

Also , the Supernatural fans need to calm down on here. It's a horrible show, don't know why anyone watches. Well no one REALLY watches, but surprised it has the small following it does.

Vampire Diaries? Do we REALLY need another season of that stupid show? The only good thing that came out of the recent Vampire craze was True Blood. And why do poeple still give Tyler Perry money?

I'm glad Supernatural is coming back for season 7. I must admit season 6 is the worst season until now, put halfway through the season it got much better, the last 2 episodes My Heart Will Go on and Frontierland were awesome and felt like the old Supernatural. Theyve got a whole bunch of arc's to go with, The Mother of All, Sam's Wall, The War in Heaven including Castiel's strange behaviour, the things with the souls, more than enough material for a new season, plus look at how good Supernatural is doing on a friday despite it being a so-so season, i hope they return to former glory with season 7 and make it a awesome last season, cause i would've hated it if they had ended it with a weaker season like 6

YES!! Supernatural will be back! At least one more year with the Winchesters, Castiel and Bobby!!

Even though this season of Supernatural has been inconsistent, the fact that it can still produce episodes like ''Weekend At Bobby's'' and ''Appointment in Samarra'', makes the renewal worth it. Here's hoping they can create a decent, more even story arc for next season, and find a more consistent quality for every episode. The news of its renewal has made my day!! As has the two men fighting over Game of Thrones...that is just too funny. Season seven for Supernatural and a season two already in the bag for Game of Thrones too. Fantastic! :)

So, in other words, there's still no compelling reason to watch the CW.

Never had a doubt that TVD would get a season 3 or SPN a 7, now how about Nikita. TVD is the best show on TV, they pack more into each ep than most shows do all season, and it never fails to surprise me. Love a show that I can't tell you what it going to happen 10 minutes in. Excellent writers and hot sexy actors. Ian Somerhalder IS Damon.

Yeah, Supernatural Season 7 here we come! Thank you, CW!

Seems like The CW is commited to it's shows. Maybe they should pick up Stargate now that SyFy has gone "anything BUT sci-fi"

BRING BACK VERONICA MARS! :P Which I know won't happen with Kristen Bell having been cast in a new show. I wish they'd at least make a movie. What an amazing show that was.

Anyway, 90210 is a major guilty pleasure. Really glad it's renewed. One Tree Hill though needs to go. I mean come on! How long can this show go on? I loved the first two seasons but then it got AWFUL and I stopped watching. I think it's time for them to end it. CW really needs some fresh blood. I think they should try some generic procedural or something. Not like we need more of those, but this network could probably use one. Anything to expand their viewing audience. It might actually bring more attention to their other shows too. They should give some adult shows a try. Something of Mad Men-caliber. Make them less of a joke. Though it would hardly fit in with the other shows they have.

I'm not celebrating until Nikita is renewed. Maybe it's not the best show out there, but it still is extraordinarily good for an action show and for the CW. The pace has been good so the story has moved forward really much during one season. And Maggie Q and Lyndsy Fonseca have done a great job. Have the ratings really been that bad? I'm watching Hellcats too, but I won't cry if it gets cancelled.
