The CW's 2011-2012 Schedule: The New With the Old

The CW was the last of the major networks to release its fall schedule, taking the stage in New York Thursday morning. With four new series in its lineup for fall, the network employed the strategy of pairing freshman shows with returning shows in hopes of building viewers from its core audience. Here's a look day-by-day of the new schedule (as usual, all times subject to change):

Mondays: It's Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage night! Gossip Girl moves up an hour to 8pm, where it will become the lead-in for new program Hart of Dixie. Dixie stars Rachel Bilson as a young doctor (where do I sign up for an appointment?) who inherits a medical practice in a small town full of unusual characters.

Tuesdays: 90210 moves back a day to Tuesday, and will be paired with new series Ringer. The CW has high hopes for the new drama, which stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as a woman who's on the run from the mob because the sole witness to a wiseguy murder. She flees to New York, meets her estranged, wealthy twin sister, and assumes that same sister's identity after the sister disappears... only to find out that her new identity is also that of a wanted woman.

Wednesdays: Reality takes over on Wednesdays with America's Top Model in it's familiar 9pm slot. Debuting in the 8pm slot is new series H8R, which sees celebrities try to win over the favor of normal people who H8 them. H8R is, obviously, hosted by Mario Lopez.

Thursdays: It's Hot Teens Night—or at least Centuries-Old Studs Who Look Like Teens Night. Supernatural beings own Thursdays at The CW, with The Vampire Diaries leading off a block based on works by author L.J. Smith. New series The Secret Circle follows VD at 9pm, and stars Britt Robertson (Life Unexpected) as a teen who discovers she's a witch.

Fridays: Nikita moves to Fridays at 8pm, while Sam and Dean Winchester and the rest of the wacky Supernatural crew stay put at 9pm. You know they scheduled the boys at 9pm on a Friday because they know we'll watch the show no matter what time it's on, right?

As usual, there's no new CW programming on Saturdays or Sundays. One Tree Hill, in what could be its last season, will return for 13 episodes sometime in the first half of 2012.

Hart of Dixie sounds a lot like "Doc Hollywood" to me, but I guess the movie is probably older than most of CW's audience anyway. Michael J. Who? Besides, I can definitely watch an hour of Rachel Bilson every week! Ringer could be interesting. Is it just me or is it odd that SMJ is in just about the only CW show WITHOUT vampires? I'm still disappointed "Life Unexpected" was cancelled, and I'll probably skip the teen-witch show, but Supernatural is still very watchable, and while Nikita is sometimes hit-and-miss, it's still pretty good, and maybe a second year will allow for more development of the back story. You know, I don't understand the griping about J-squared still being on Friday night. Who doesn't own a PVR in this day and age?

VD is such a terrible show, swooning tween bullcrap. I'll watch Supernatural, 'cause it's awesome and Ringer, 'cause I'm curious.

The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, and Ringer are the ones that I cannot wait to see in the Fall.

The Ringer looks amazing. Still going to watch Nikita, Vampire Diaries, and Supernatural.

Ahh okay. I heard abour 'H8R' without knowing the name or if it was even a true show. Im going to check it out. I will also continue watching 90210 (mainly out of loyalty) and One Tree Hill and will also try out 'Dixie'. Dont think the rest sounds very appealing to me.

Hart of Dixie sounds good, the Ringer doesn't, but I will check it out because of SMG :)

@ChadLorenz SMG was in Buffy, it's one of the top things she is known for, so it makes sense to get her fans from btvs to watch her newest tv show! Ringer does have something to do with Buffy because the both have SMG!

Stupid they use Buffy as a name dropper for this article. Ringer has nothing to do with Buffy.

Can't wait for Ringer as I Love SMG!

In this picture, SMG looks like a character on Gossip Girl, Lily Humphrey.

probably nothing, although Hart of Dixie and Ringer do sound interesting. I am still ticked at the CW for rarely having anything good on ever and for canceling Veronica Mars after inheriting it from UPN.

Fridays because of Supernatural.

Really? Make a tittle like that is just so cruel... Buffy's back.. Way to play with my poor little heart tv.com. Anyway I knew you meant the new SMG's show, but we never know what can happen on tv these days.

really, the ringer's story sounds beyond lame.. but i'm such a huge smg fan and buffy fan that i will be watching every episode. so, i would say teusday. i quite like rachel bilson and looking forward to her new series... looking over the schedule, i think cw is doing an amazing job putting shows together. very solid across the board.

The lesson that refuses to be learned: New shows should says "[New]" in text, not shown in all caps. Titles deserve to be in proper case. Yesterday, with CBS, you used bold because of "CSI: NY". Why'd you drop the bold today. I suppose there's no real chance you'll do better next year. It makes me very, very sad.

RINGER just cause SMG is on it. Though the premise is a little ridiculous. and Vamp Diaries of course. Ugh CW move Supernatural, Fringe needs all the ratings it can get and the shows share a decent amount of viewers i think.

Monday and Tuesday for me! My tv schedule is working out much better this year. Nothing is on during the same times (that I can think of).

Nikita + Supernatural!!!!! My favorite shows on the CW!!!!!

It would have been Gossip Girl, 90210, TVD, Ringer, Hart of Dixie and Nikita, with maybe Secret Circle but since GG, 90210 and Secret Circle are at the same time as other shows that I was hoping to watch, I may have to prioritize and see which ones I REALLY wanna watch. It might just be TVD, Ringer, Hart of Dixie and Nikita for me.

Gossip Girl, Heart of Dixie, 90210, The Ringer, Vampire Diaries, Secret Circle, and Nikita. I cant believe I want to watch all of these shows on CW. I already was watching the shows that are returning, but I am excited for the new shows. The only ones I dont watch are ANTM, OTH, and supernatural. I also dont plan on watching H8R. --furthermore I want ANTM, OTH, and H8R to be cancelled.

just Gossip Girl and Supernatural for me. as for new shows I MIGHT watch Hart Of Dixie just for Rachel Bilson, same for SMG and Ringer. might also check out Secret Circle, ironically with white witches even though it's from the same lady who did The Vampire Diaries lol
