The CW's Fall Premiere Schedule Says Screw It, We're Starting in October

You know the saying: women, children, and big-boy networks first. The CW has revealed its 2012 fall premiere dates and it's holding them back for as long as it can, which happens to be October. While most networks' shows will be on Episode 3, The CW will just be getting going with the season premiere of Hart of Dixie on Tuesday, October 2, followed by Supernatural on Wednesday, October 3. Its premieres will continue all the way through late October, when America's Next Top Model and Nikita start up on October 19.

The late start could be advantageous for The CW in a couple ways. First, it'll let all the dust settle from the big networks' September battle royale. Second, it'll make for fewer repeats later in the season, which can derail a series' momentum. Of course, the late start could also lead to the network being totally forgotten as the glitz of premieres dies down and people settle back into old habits. Good luck with that, The CW!

Here's the full schedule of The CW's fall 2012 premieres!
(new shows in ALL CAPS)

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2

8–9pm Hart of Dixie (Season 2 premiere)

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 3

9–10pm Supernatural (Season 8 premiere)

9–10pm Gossip Girl (Season 6 premiere)

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 11

8–9pm The Vampire Diaries (Season 4 premiere)
9–10pm BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (Series premiere)

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 16

8–9pm Hart of Dixie
9–10pm EMILY OWENS, M.D. (Series premiere)

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19

What do you think of The CW's late start? Good idea or bad idea?

I think the late start is great! I watch so many shows that I will need the extra time. I couldn't take it if I missed any cw shows :)

Sam and Dean, Vamps & Nikita.

I'll watch the first Arrow, but not expecting much.

super pumped!! Love the new cw line up and can't wait to start back up my fav cw show :o)

im excited for vampire diaries, supernatural, and nikita sucks though that they are starting so late.

i feel like Beauty and the Beast is goin to b terribly uninteresting just like the original
Reply

The only advantage Beauty & the Beast has over the original is more attractive actors. Linda Hamilton has always been best described as "handsome," and let's face it, Ron Perlman's makeup was an improvement.

supernatural, vampire diaries, emily owens and nikita. ;)

Oh yeah and I forgot to add Nikita as another show that I'm excited for. I might check out Arrow in the hopes that it might become the new Smallville, plus it has Katie Cassidy on it! Loved her as the original Ruby in Supernatural!

Supernatural, TVD, and Nikita.

After CW'S TSC cancelation, I don't trust CW, or their writers. I'll wait to see if Arrow or Beauty and the Beast are given a 2nd season before I invest myself in those shows.

It's an interesting move on their part to say the least. In part it seems brilliant but waiting just one extra month also just sounds agonizing. I can't believe they actually followed through on Beauty and the Beast. Oh man, what were they thinking!?
Reply
Flag
I think they just wanted to snatch up Beauty and The Beast before ABC did.
Reply

I'll be watching TVD, Arrow and Emily Owens, MD (Yay Jack Coleman!).

Can't wait for Arrow, Supernatural & Nikita.

Haven't a clue though, why CW wouldn't premiere Arrow and SPN on the same night. Would probably be better for marketing.

No interest in watching anything on CW again after they cancelled TSC.

XD With Nikita STILL on Fridays with Supernatural moved to Wednesdays, I think the channel is tying to get it cancelled but can't 'cause it's so awesome! XD... I can't wait for new Supernatural and Nikita!
Reply
Flag
Actually Nikita was renewed because it's a pretty good international seller despite the US raiting. And that's why they keep it on friday slot
Reply
Flag
the channel isn't trying to get Nikita canceled. it's the lowest rated show on all 5 broadcast channels and they renewed it for season 3, which pretty much guarantees a Season 4 for syndication purposes (88 episodes)
Reply
Flag
Pretty sure the minimum for syndication is still 100...usually the only time a show will be syndicated after 4 seasons (e.g. Big Bang Theory) is when it's already been renewed for a 5th, thus guaranteeing at least 100 episodes.

Good idea. I'm hoping for less breaks in the middle of the season, though. Cross your fingers.

The Beauty and the Beast or should I say Beauty and the Beauty looks so horribly generic.

After that 0.0 adult demo rating the other day, they should consider pushing their premiere dates back to 2013 and hope the Mayan-theorists are right about apocalypse.

I think it's a good idea, when we are sick and tired of the worst of the new shows, we got something new to try. Isn't that just great. :-)

I have some hopes for Arrow, but Beauty and the beast, seriously? It looks so bad, can't believe they canceled the Faye Chamberlain Show for this....A Disgrace is what it it, Borderline the Firefly cancellation. Shame! Shame on you CW!
Reply
Flag
Dear, staff, I think the show summary of Beauty and the Beast sounds ripped and unfitting. but maybe that just me. could be cool actualy. I'll need to think about it
Reply
Flag
The CW has some fantastic shows, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and Nikita are three of my favorites, and Hart of Nixie is pretty good too (no, seriously). I'll try the three newbies but from their trailers they all look a bit poor, which is annoying considering The Faye Chamberlain Show got cancelled (I think the CW called it something like The Not-Very-Secret Circle).

Faye Chamberlain Show? Loved it!

no more tsc, then no more CW..

Supernatural! FTW

Yay! Can't wait for The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural! I realize that the premieres are in October and that sucks but it's better than nothing.
Reply
Flag
damnit. why did i keep thinking august even though i was reading october? nikita being the one show i have any interest in... not sure how well the show will survive without what's his face though.
Reply

Am I the only one who likes this idea at least for returning shows where people are already coming back to watch them, it means that we get less breaks which really screw with the plot
Reply
Flag
less breaks does sound good. but with the holidays there are going to be brekas anyway and the shows will actually be premiering closer to when those breaks begin, me thinks. yeah i know there's one holiday in september right? forgive me for not recalling what it is and if it affects shows though.
Reply
Flag
Let's hope that they only have 1-2 breaks.
Reply
Flag
I think we had something around 3 breaks this 2011-2012 fall seasons. If we have at least 1 less, I'll be a happy camper.

The problem with a late start is that it suggests they could get away with shortened seasons, possibly only 13 episodes long. If they start a show mid-October then they are into Thanksgiving only a month later. So they might air five or six episodes, break until February, then stretch out the remaining seven or eight episodes over three months. And even if they do give the shows more than 13 episodes they can still get away with shorter seasons.

And of course it can fare badly for the new shows. If viewers already get into watching something at those times then they're less likely to check out the CW's new shows.

Although on the plus side, three of the networks shows work well in October.

Just watching Hart of Dixie cause I'm still pi**ed off they cancelled Secret Circle. But since I'm not a teenager and too old for the polls, who cares.

Reply
Flag
Wasn't Hart Of Dixie one of the reasons why The Secret Circle was cancelled? I mean they chose it over TSC but if you like HOD, then good for you! :)

CW has the shittiest shows. Let's be honest. Though some may garner some entertainment value, they are shows of ZERO substance... and it appears they are continuing with said reputation. Good Job CW, way to strive for less than mediocre television!
Reply
Flag
Maybe Arrow but they should of gone with justin hartley from Smallville as the green arrow as he was the best Green Arrow for sure....
Reply
Flag
there is nothing left to watch on this network
Reply

supernatural ftw!

hopefully, the new showrunner, carver, can get the show back on track.
Reply
Flag
Yay for Nikita!

Kind-of-yay for Supernatural.

I really like Hart of Dixie. It's a refreshing change. Even thou they suggest things that children should not see, those things never really happen and turn into laughter. Down to Earth good show for most of the family.
Reply
Flag
I'm glad that for once it seems like networks aren't actively trying to pit it's shows with similar genres against each other as much.. Supernatural should've been after TVD probably, since didn't it used to be on Thursdays anyway? put the two news shows I'm not watching on the same night :p

fall officially starts September 22nd which means most shows are actually premiering in summer, so maybe CW took "fall" literally
Reply
Flag
I actually liked it when they paired The Vampire Diaries with Supernatural. They both have a core audience, they have similarities with each other, they're in the same genre and it might be possible that the viewers of each show actually also watch the other show. That could mean ratings gold for The CW to pair 2 hit shows with loyal audiences and it might boost the number of viewers and the demo ratings.

They are premiering episodes in October to cut down on the amount of repeats later in the season. The constant breaks were ridiculous last year.

I predict Beauty and the Beast is going to get creamed this coming season! I'll wait it just to try it, but I'm not very hopeful about it. Plus, early reviews aren't looking so good.

I'm mostly excited for the return of TVD and the premiere of Arrow!

shouldn't supernatural be season 8
Reply
Flag
No, it shouldn't, it should've ended on the high of Season 5
Reply
Flag
Supernatural's better than half of the shows on this network, even though the quality of the writing has dropped and it's 7 seasons old.
Reply
Flag
I still find it pretty enjoyable to watch and will continue to do so this coming season. I really want to see john winchester again.
Reply
Flag
Agree with eveything you said. And I wouldn't mind it if the show brought back Jo, Ellen, Bobby, Rufus, Gabriel and Balthazar.
Reply
Flag
You don't have to watch it. If you thought it should end on 5 then why be concerned with those that enjoy it?

yes. fixed it!
