The CW's Veronica Mars Web Series Will Feature Most of the Original Cast, Including Kristen Bell

Good news, Marshmallows! The Veronica Mars gang is getting back together again! Well, sort of.

You may recall that earlier this year, The CW ordered a Veronica Mars spin-off web series centered on Ryan Hansen’s fan-favorite character Dick Casablancas. The uber-meta project follows a fictional version of Hansen as he tries to get a Dick Casablancas show on TV; titled Play It Again, Dick, natch, it'll center on the actor's attempts to capitalize on Veronica Mars' recent resurgence in popularity due and sucessfully Kickstarted movie release

According to Buzzfeed, filming on the eight-episode web series is now completed—and several original cast members will be appearing as both themselves and their Neptune alter egos.

Among those reprising their roles and appearing as fictional versions of themselves are Kristen Bell as Veronica, Jason Dohring as Logan Echolls, Enrico Colantoni as Keith Mars, Percy Daggs III as Wallace Fennel, Daran Norris as Cliff Morcmack, Francis Capra as Eli “Weevil” Navarro, Kyle Gallner as (my name is) Cassidy "Beaver" Casablancas, and Christopher B. Duncan as the silent and deadly Clarence Wiedman.

Additionally, Ryan Devlin, who played [SPOILER ALERT!] rapist Mercer Hayes in Season 3 will play himself as well as Veronica's ex-boyfriend Duncan Kane, who was played by Teddy Dunn on the original series. Ken Marino and Chris Lowell will also appear as themselves, and Amanda Noret and Lisa Thornhill will reprise their roles as Madison Sinclair and Celeste Kane in the show-within-a-show.

Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas penned the script, which explains why Robert Buckley and Rose McIver, who both star in Thomas’s upcoming midseason drama iZombie, will drop by as guest stars.

I only have two questions: First, Where the hell is Tina Majorino? And second, how is Gallner going to play Cassidy if he's [SPOILER ALERT!] dead?

Play It Again, Dick premieres the week of September 15 on CW Seed.

This seems like the kind of thing a group of friends get together, get drunk, and film

This is a very strange project indeed, and I feel like it's waited too long to capitalize on the movie, which has come and gone. Meta projects like this can be too tongue-in-cheek, but the people involved with this have talent so I hope to see good things.

I wonder how IMDB categorizes "fictional versions of themselves"...
But with more "cast"/characters and even a dash of iZombie, this is the first CW Seed project I'm actually looking forward to.

Regarding the IMDB thing: If an actor appears in something as him or herself it would say as "himself" or as "herself." If an actor is playing a fictionalized version of him or herself, example Neil Patrick Harris in Harold and Kumar, it says "Neil Patrick Harris as Neil Patrick Harris" not "Neil Patrick Harris as Himself."

Isn't it about 'Ryan Hansen'? Why would they be playing the characters? I thought they would be playing 'themselves'. And that explains why Kyle Gallner (squee!!!) will be in it.

I thought the movie was excellent, and didn't step on memories at all. It stepped on the slashfic of various characters, and it did Piz no favors, but it was good none the less.

Yeah, there is that dead thing. But Coulson was dead, so dead doesn't mean much in the world of television anymore. Wish death in this world was only temporary. But hey, I'm in for any new VM they want to give us.

VM has flashbacks all the time, this could be one.

Shield could explain away a guy jumping off a building; I don't think VM can. There are other ways he could show up. Lost had almost every dead major character reappear, but [SPOILER ALERT!] not once brought a dead character back to life. Although there was the time it seemed as though Mikael turned out to have survived the pylons, then later turned out to have survived being speargunned and got to live for a few more minutes.
