What to watch on Monday, April 25

Don't you just want to hit Mondays with a rolled-up newspaper? Not literally, that would be impossible. Oh hey look what's on tonight:

9pm, NBC
The Event
"The Event" this show is NAMED AFTER will probably not happen tonight [spoiler alert!] but here's what WILL: Peel and Sterling will investigate a mysterious illness in the White House while Sean and Vicky attempt to prevent Sophia's secret weapon from being loaded onto a Russian jet bound for America.

8pm, CW
Nothing spells hilarity like replacing a bipolar girl's medication with sugar pills, so tune in tonight to see what happens after Adrianna messes around in Silver's medicine cabinet!

9pm, Syfy
Stargate Universe
When the Destiny touches down on a planet in the throes of seismic destruction, the crew must retrieve valuable data archives stored underground while also figuring out whether they can rescue the planet's survivors. Ugh, that situation sounds almost as stressful as the printer jam I had earlier today. (Everything was fine, but whew!)

8pm, CBS
Gossip Girl
Manhattan's biggest brats are at it again! Okay, so I forgot to mention last week's new episode; allow me to make up for it now. Tonight Serena enlists Charlie to spy on Blair and Dan (yawn), and Chuck discovers a shocking revelation about his father's past (again?). And when did these characters stop caring about Gossip Girl's identity? If a sassy creep kept tabs on me all day, I'd be hiring a P.I., but that's just me I guess.

11pm, Sundance
My So-Called Life
All right, so I talk a ton of trash about teen soaps (see above). It's only fair that I admit that My So-Called Life is my absolute favorite, and it's far from perfect. For one thing, it ended on Episode 19 and without any real closure. Also, the parents tended to be unbearable. But still! Aside from the laughable fashion choices, this show holds up really well! It's still the realest TV portrait of the inner life of teenagers, and its occasional forays into magical realism were straight-up gutsy. Anyway, if you haven't caught this series yet, it's time!
