The Final Curtain Falls for Nip/Tuck

Tuck us in for good.

After 6 years of slicing and dicing, the final (and 100th) episode of Nip/Tuck was filmed on June 12. Though it won't air until 2011, making the show's ending both bittersweet and very delayed, the news yields the end of an era.

The long-running show broke boundaries, pissed off parents and became a mirror of the indulgent, over-curious American culture we've grown to love. Critics like The New York Times' Ginia Bellafante enjoyed scoffing at it: Upon the show's move to LA, she said, "It feels less and less like a moralizing satire on the ruthlessness of vanity and more and more like a joyless exploration of desperate sex hatched in a windowless building of a strip mall in the San Fernando Valley."

Yeah, whatever. Nip/Tuck has also been in Emmy and Golden Globe contention since it aired in 2003, winning just one of each. In 2004, the series won an Emmy for Outstanding Makeup for a Series, Miniseries, Movie or a Special (Prosthetic) and in 2005, the series nabbed a Golden Globe for Best Television Series - Drama. In short, it's been reigning supreme for quite awhile.

Where else will American voyeurism truly be satisfied? After all, regular hospital shows neglect the drama of the surgery in favor of the drama on the staff. Only on Nip/Tuck were we able to break the rules and step right into the operating room, feeding our obsession with beauty on an extremely scientific level. It was the hands-on lab class in a sea of soundalike lectures, and now we'll have to settle for those lectures once again.

What I don't get is why they are saying the show got cancelled. It was revealed last year that the show was going to end at episode 100. Pushing Daisies was CANCELLED. Nip/Tuck knows what it is doing. Much like Lost, the creators saw an ending before it came and they will end it, rather than viewers and ratings dictate its demise prematurely.

It's definitely time for it to go.While S1-2 were some of the best TV ever, S3-4 really slipped in the humor department. Season five was a sorry excuse. There was too much humor and it was wayyyy over the top.

How the hell do they have enough episodes filmed in advance to carry them through to 2011?

While I am looking forward to seeing whats left, I am kind of happy it is coming to an end. Things got bad, and then they got better for the show. I just don't understand the delay. Its not as if post production will take two years. Very strange.

I've loved it from the beginning but it was going a little downhill of late anyway. Matt's character and Julia's character were both getting on my nerves AND Christian was getting WAY too self involved, more than usual and even Sean was getting there. I'll still watch til the end but a few times I thought about dropping it. I think around the time when Matt was hooking up with his sister! The show starting getting too desperate, trying too hard to push the envelope. It used to come naturally but then later, not so much.

It will be missed. But why would F/x delay the airing until 2011. That just doesn't make sense. My opinion is if you got it show it. Dumb!
