The Flash "Rogue Time" Review: Back to the Future

The Flash S01E16: "Rogue Time"

It was kind of inevitable. Last week's "Out of Time" was so insane and awesome that, even though we all knew the Barry-can-travel-through-time thing was coming, the revelation that his little trip to yesterday essentially undid all that delicious crazy with Wells and Cisco and Iris and Spartacus was a definite mood-killer. "Rogue Time" was like the second round of a game you started playing with a kid who threw a tantrum during the first round and demanded a redo.

Thankfully, the redo was a pretty sweet ride in itself.

But still, redo.

"Out of Time" left Cisco dead and Wells' alter ego essentially out in the open, and while I was initially bummed to see the game he's been playing with Barry and the others come to its inevitable end, once Barry literally turned back the clock, I found myself more annoyed with the backtracking. However, The Flash needed a way to bring Cisco back—without him, who would bestow all the meta-humans with names literally ripped from comic books?

And on that note, is this universe going to acknowledge Lisa Snart's "Golden Glider" past? I don't believe the name was uttered, but the gold-shooting gun was a nice nod and certainly less embarrassing than evil ice-skates and bedazzled bombs (IDK, it was the '70s; cocaine's a helluva drug?).

Either way, hello there, Jane Sterling errr I mean Peyton List.

So what exactly is the state of reality on The Flash following the double whammy of "Out of Time" and "Rogue Time?" Well, Iris and Barry get to go back to being the worst—although that's not to say they wouldn't have remained the worst even if the first timeline had stuck, because being borderline unwatchable in a painfully uninteresting storyline is just kind of their thing, you know? With no mortal peril and no big reveal that her dorky bestie is actually the superhero boyfriend of her dreams, Iris can return to blissfully batting her eyelashes at Eddie. No thanks to Barry, who completely missed the point about her choosing him the first time around and got all desperate-to-escape-the-friend-zone on us in a move that seemed uncharacteristically thoughtless for him. Clearly, The Flash reeeeeeally wants us to accept those two as an endgame couple.

As far as storylines we actually care about: CISCO LIVES! I was certainly getting a bit nervous when Wells lured him to the original scene of the crime and basically gave the exact same speech about seeing Cisco as a son that delivered back when he shanked the guy. After all, Cisco revealed Barry's identity to Captain Cold, and Barry is Wells' precious. So I started panicking, envisioning a big move on Wells' part that'd be justified by a need to "protect" Barry or whatever... which also would've been fine, aside from all the panicking and weeping that would've ensued. I love me some Cisco, I really do, but you can't just drop a prophecy like Harrison Wells promising that Barry's timeline-tampering would only lead to a bigger clusterf*ck than the original and then not do anything with it. I was waiting for the hot mess express to roll in right on time, but it appears to be running late. That means we get to spend the rest of the season on pins and needles waiting for it. Aren't you excited?

(Say yes.)

The impending disaster was visible on the horizon by the end of "Rogue Time." Snart knowing Barry's identity forced Barry to make a deal with that particular devil and his rogue entourage. Their begrudging understanding of one another opens up an interesting new story avenue—either for a truly dangerous successor once the Reverse Flash stuff is wrapped up, or for reluctant allies once the Reverse Flash stuff spirals out of control in the best possible way. After all, the Rogues have assisted the Flash in the comics, and usually for their own reasons or own distorted version of respect. Captain Cold might have a silly name, but his character is a complex foil to the Flash.

Meanwhile, Cisco gets to live and act all warm and fuzzy with Papa Wells in this timeline, but Barry has seen evidence that Wells isn't the benevolent genius he appears to be, which results in all sorts of possibilities for future Flash/Reverse Flash conflict. I want it. I want it now.

Once I got over my early disappointment in response toe The Flash's decision to wipe the slate clean following "Out of Time," "Rogue Time" revealed itself to be a worthy sequel. Even though it wasn't quite as bombastically packed with the stunning moments, the episode still managed to alter Barry's reality in a big way and, for now, a permanent way. Barry can't figure out how or why he managed to travel back in time, which means we aren't really any closer to the inevitable showdown in Baby Barry's living room that costs his mother her life. Time travel has long played a big role in the Flash mythology, but it's clear that the show isn't going to abuse the loophole. There aren't any take-backsies here just yet.

LEFT IN THE DUST

– Womp womp, Mason. Womp womp.

– Lightning amnesia? Really?

Just finished watching this and geez I am getting sick of these stupid guns and these lame bad guys. I know many people like these guys but its getting to bad in my opinion. The previous episode was great, save for the weather bad guy that should have caught in a second (like he was this ep), but this ep was just bad bad bad.

I know it's over a year, but I was just wondering if you still hated Cold and the Rogues and how delightfully corny they are. A lot has changed with Cold and his character especially.

The Gold gun was the silliest thing ever... if you can make gold (or imitation gold) why on earth would the bad guys be robbing casinos ???? Just make your own gold and sell it... !!!!

How come Cicso only made one of those lightening rod devices? He should have made dozens of them. They seem to have the resources to hire people to assemble them, especially via the police.

Flash and Captain Cold just need to establish some boundaries regarding work relationships. After work, it should be Flash saying to Captain Cold, "Hey Bro, you want to get some brewskies? We're off the clock. Maybe we can get some hoes. "

I think if I didn't know about the spinoff, I would have been frowning at the television going "WTF?" when Barry was basically saying "Go find other people to torture somewhere where I can't see it. But please consider not killing them."

So Lisa Snart doesn't glide, so they can't call her Golden Glider.

Would that make her Golden Gilter?

I don't get all the people calling Cisco out on making the guns so quick/while imprisoned. Cold made it pretty clear both in this episode and the previous one that he knew how the guns ticked/wanted the others to know too. He's pretty clearly been planning things for awhile too. I imagine he's probably had the parts stashed around for awhile. Basically, he had the parts, but no instruction booklet, hence needing Cisco.

I actually found the consequences of this episode more interesting than the previous timeline. Admittedly, that could be because it was pretty clear the time travel was going to erase them from the start. I certainly didn't see Cold discovering who Barry was. Also, major points to the episode for not just basically being a rehash of the previous episode. Having not seen the previews, I figured it would just be Barry replaying the day out but just changing enough things to keep all the terrible stuff from happening. I'm glad they had him do the logical thing and catch Weather Wizard within the first few minutes and then brought in the Rogues for the rest.

Iris is still the worst, but that's no surprise. Cisco's family is the worst, but intentionally written that way so kudos to them. I'm glad Wells killed whathisface reporter. I was a little worried he was actually going to let him live after having tossed him around. Guess he just wanted to maximize his damage by going for a backstab.

Actually, Arrow was always shoving Laurel down our throats... Laurel, Iris, pot, kettle...
I would hope that the thousands of complaining fans would have changed their minds over on Arrow, but it may have only gotten us a reprieve. *sigh*
As for Iris... it just seems to get worse and worse... again, Laurel, Iris... :P

in my opinion, they spent way to much of this season trying to make us believe oliver and felicity had chemistry when its the most forced thing id ever seen. At least with laurel i believed the history and the chemistry there. Olicity is all a fan service.

As for Iris, her and barrys chemistry i believe.

But hey, to each is own

They made Eddie way too likable if they ever wanted us to root for Iris breaking his heart. He's so nice I actually think he deserves better than her..., though I wonder if he'll end up sacrificing himself by the end of the season just to stop Wells (his decedent.)

So what people do that type of stuff all the time. There's always a game of cat & mouse being played on TV shows where there's one woman and two men or vice versa. This type of storyline is as old as stories go

Even if that got erased, she's still not being totally honest about her feelings. Either that or she really is that blind that she doesn't see herself sabotaging Barry's love life at every turn.

Man Tom Cavanagh is such a amazing actor. We know his character is evil and will go any length to achieve his goal. But Cavanaghs performance makes me think for a second that Harrison/Eobard has some good in him. The guy should get a damn award! Don't you guys agree?!

So how long exactly did it take Cisco to build new cold and hot guns and design a gold gun from scratch and build that? And I know it's from the comics, but a gold gun? Seriously? "Please don't kill me or my brother for saying this, but a gold gun would weigh a ton and you'll have to rob about a dozen jewelry stores every time it runs out of ammo".

Tony Stark was able to build this in a cave! With a box of scraps.

I imagine the Rogues stole whatever supplies were necessary. It sounds like Cold had a general idea of how it ticked, he just couldn't fully assemble it himself. He'd at least know what to grab.

The gun isn't made of gold. I'm pretty sure it doesn't shoot gold either, cause, well, gold doesn't work like that. I think it's just basically a reskin of Cold's gun (she ordered the DLC)

Except Tony Stark had missiles, missile launchers, and any assortment of other Stark Industries tech at his disposal for repurposing. Not to mention a highly-skilled assistant. And the storytelling did the legwork to show and explain all that. Whereas it looked an awful lot like Cisco just snapped his fingers and three guns appeared. LOL

Super Cisco back from dead conjuring 3 unique and powerful devices with no lab in less than 24 hours...
And how did Wells know that the reporter was looking into him?
I do like that the overall consequence is that Wells has inadvertently made Barry suspicious of him. When before he was the only one who wasn't.

Heat wave and Captain cold where unbelievably cheesy but still great. Very comic booky. Seeing them onscreen again just makes me think of Michael and Lincoln and they have a similar relationship to the one they had on Prison Break.
Liked the sis's introduction but i hope they can use Peyton List better in future as she was pretty cool on the Tomorrow People

Cisco could have quite a career as a private weapon manufacturer. He was able to whip up 3 unique super-powered guns from the scratch, on the spot, with only the materials within his immediate reach. All that in less than a day. I still think I preferred that plot development over the "hateful brother who is a jerk except deep down he really isn't", especially when that resulted in Barry's secret getting out.

The whole resolution of the Weather Wizard threat was... anti-climactic, I suppose? And borderline treading on a parody when he was yelling his vengeful promises as they were locking him up. It really painted him as a rather laughable adversary in the end, while showing what Barry could actually do when he isn't playing around.

Wentworth Miller infused his character with a lot of personality again, no surprise there. I am glad that the other Rogues also held up their own. The deal Flash has with Captain Cold now though... I wonder if it means Barry will be forced to look the other way whenever they pull off another theft (as long as there are no mortal victims involved). That part was a little unclear.

I almost couldn't stand looking at Barry when he was acting like a giddy, grinning idiot around Iris. Grant Gustin may have gone over the top there. I get that he had reasons to be this happy in light of Iris' confession, but since our protagonist is supposedly somewhat smart and no longer a teenager, I would've expected at least a little more restraint and maturity in handling the matter. Plus there was that absolutely horrible treatment of Linda that once again made me question whether Barry was 14 or 20 plus years old.
At least Iris' reaction was made to be believable. Even if not all of her feelings on the subject were largely unconscious, an outright denial made a lot of sense for a woman in her position: being in a comitted reliatonship, and believing (at least on the surface) that this is what she wants. It's doubful she would admit anything else even to herself under these circumstances.
I'm not particularly happy about the "Barry has some mental problems" solution that Caitlin came up with, because the way Eddie and Iris acted after hearing these news made it seem like Barry was in need of some very special care. If they get back to treating him normally in the next episode, that will be a little odd. If they keep treating him differently on the other hand, that's going to be annoying.

The scenes with Harrison were good, as usual. Oh, and goodbye Mason (but how did Wells even find out...). I was curious whether he had any private reasons for not wanting to hear about Barry's version of the future, until he finally caved in. At least it looks like Flash doesn't have any handle over travelling back in time as of yet. Convenient.

I think regarding the deal, I don't see Barry not trying to stop him. Think about what Cold said to him, it's a game for him. He thrills at the challenge of it all. No Flash defeats the biggest challenge for him. I know they're aiming for Barry and Iris and yet I can't seem to care. I wish I didn't have to dislike Iris so much but I do. She is just such a hypocrite and an airhead so much of the time, it's aggravating. I'm glad Cisco didn't stay dead, but wonder if it means somebody else will die later on. Barry and Iris just have zero chemistry and oil & water goes together better than those two.

Captain Cold and the Rogues thus far are my favorite villains of the series. Wentworth Miller brings something to the character that you find yourself in a position you love to hate him. Dominic Purcell is a little over the top as Heat Wave but I think that's the point. And Peyton List, damn good TV having her on no matter what the show.

It does make sense that Cold might want a powerful adversary to outsmart, I suppose. It's just so far there hasn't been much in terms of a level playing field between them. He went to such lengths in order to learn about Barry's secret identity, but leveraging that is more of a blackmail on his part than anything else.

I'm not sure why Iris doesn't bother me as much. Perhaps because she is still miles better than Arrow's Laurel was for so long. Perhaps because I like the actress (and not just looking at her!). Perhaps because I think she has some redeeming qualities despite all her shortcomings, and that Barry and her actually have at least a semblance of a connection. But I certainly wouldn't mind if Barry ended up with a girl who can appreciate him more for who he is.

I know that Barry and Iris are a couple in the comic. I just can't get a good vibe from them. Also I think a reason Snart needed Cisco is that he knew how his gun worked, but not how to make a new one for his sister or how to get Heat Wave's gun working again. I have nothing against the actress, I just don't like Iris. Laurel I didn't like last season either and it sucks cause I have a crush on Katie Cassidy. But she's greatly improved this season. That and the Canary costume is badass.

I keep going back and forth on Laurel (from liking some parts in season 2 and 3 to outright disliking the other, especially whenever she acts stupidly). My only main issue with Iris is that she could really use an injection of smartness.

I'd also hope that the writers learned something from Arrow and won't try to shove any reliatonship down our throats just because. It has to come about naturally.

C'mon. They've thrown a bone just to get it back, not fair!
So it is all undone. Cisco is not dead, Iris didn't open her heart to Barry, Barry didn't open her secret identity to Iris and Well didn't get the Reverse Flash out of the closet. The question is where does it leave us?
Liked this new drama Cisco got himself in, his being forced to reveal Barry's identity to Snart certainly puts things in perspective. I honestly think Wells (or Eobard Thawne, let's not forget that) was going to kill him again, instead he gave Cisco a motivational speech using the same son line he did right before kill him. That was very interesting.
So Barry made a deal with Snart, in the basis of the whole I won't kill you, you won't kill me thing we saw on The Dark Knight. Maybe that's a way for him and his Rogue Gallery to become heroes in the coming Flash/Arrow spinoff, sure hope so. Also he got evidence that Wells might not be the person he always thought he was, it is really too much of a coincidence that Iris' boss vanished in the same day he discovers that the guy had evidence that links Wells with the Stagg death.
It going to cause Iris to investigate her boss' desappearance, causing even more curiosity on Barry. Talking about Iris I think it really takes a tsunami for her to admit her feelings for Barry, and that whole lightning disease Caitlin invented was a very creative way for Barry to get out of her way... better crazy than a backstabbing cheater, eh?
So next episode has the great Mark Hamill reliving his Trickster role of the previous The Flash series, how awesome is this?

Come on man! After last week I couldn't wait to see this episode. I almost wish last week hadn't happened, it was so good and now they've undone all of it. I want to like this episode but I want things to play out like they were going to last week. I also don't think they did a great job with the time travel. I will admit I didn't read the comics so I don't know if this is consistent with the mythology, but to me it seemed strange that Barry from last week just disappeared as soon as current Barry went back. Why were there not two Barry's? Time travel stories are always hard to pull off and I really hope they flesh out the reasoning in future episodes.

Last weeks episode (Out of Time) Grade was an A..
This weeks episode something was missing. Obviously very few TV shows cannot maintain same pace/level every week..at least not at 18 episodes or more. Last weeks episode was so epic..you had to figure part 2 was going to be just as boss..Flash has been so good this year its hard to nit pick at its faults..but i felt (Rogues Time) let me down. I know timelines were changed/altered to some degree and new plans have been set in motion BUT are the writers going to feel free to reset things anytime they have a game changing episode?..Grade for this episode=B- Still decent..
One small rant..Snart knows the Flash is Barry.. and he let him go?? and if i'm not mistaken he left him and his "Rogues Gallery" with their weapons?? I am POSITIVE i could have written a better outcome to that situation..

Okay first off, I love the Flash, but really, I feel that they thought they gave too much away to all the characters' last week, and need to drag on the show so they undid all of it with a go back in time. I mean really, a gold gun? Um, anyone else have a problem with that? Because I definitely do. How it exists is one of the top questions on that list.

Yeah, moving on, where the hell was Captain Cold when Weather Wizard was wreaking havoc? I mean I get the timeline needed to replace what happened with that, but seriously, where was Captain Cold, what happened as a result of Weather Wizard being captured early and NOT wreaking havoc, that didn't prevent Captain Cold from coming back?

Moving onto Iris, seriously directors'? You really are going to drag this out? I love Eddie and all, but everyone knows Iris and Barry are supposed to get together, like everyone who has red the Comics know that Canary and Green Arrow, or this case, Laurel and Oliver are going to get together, eventually, they can deviate from the comics, but those are universal couples', in movies', tv shows, and comics, can't skip over that easily, just saying. As for Iris, I mean give her a break people, you all bash her as a character for leading Barry on, she's not! She's in a relationship with another guy, who she loves', and then Barry loves' her, and she cares' for him, but she loves' them both, and is in a relationship with one, ON TOP OF not having come to terms with her feelings for Barry, so I mean she's not selfish or petty, she's human, and her reaction is a normal one for someone in that situation.

As for Captain Cold and the Flash letting him go, my one and only reaction was 'wtf'? Why the hell would he let him go? So he doesn't kill anyone, just take him back to prison for Gods' sake! Why let him go? I mean, have Cisco and Caitlyn hack, or call Felicity and get her to hack and find the link, then disable it, why risk him running around and wreaking havoc? I am literally banging my head against the wall, and there is no confirmation that he ACTUALLY had a link that he was going to release to the world, yet Barry assumes that all the bad guys' automatically NEVER lie, (shaking head at his naiveness).

Uh, NO. When Iris saw Barry paying attention to Linda, she actually tried to sabotage the relationship when she told Linda that Barry had a crush on her. She started getting that "hurt look" every time she saw the two together, and then she flirts so heavy with Barry at the bowling alley that both Eddie and Linda call her out on it. That's selfish, petty and playing games with Barry's emotions. It's wrong on every level.

Andddd... Woman do this all the time! It happens on every show on the CW. Elena from The Vampire Diaries, Queen Mary from Reign & Ms Felicity Smoake from Arrow have all been in Iris's shoes in some form or fashion. In Elena & Mary's case its even worse what they've done with their men. At least Iris isn't fu**ing both Eddie & Barry, which I wouldn't necessarily disparage her for either. But regardless none of those characters get sh!t for what they've done people root for them and wonder & wish for them to choose their favorite. So save it

I don't watch either of those shows for just that reason. I had no problem with Iris until she started this mess with Barry and Eddie. I thought she was a better character than that. I was wrong. I'd rather recognize a character's major flaws than ignore them, that way show runners might start having characters show more positive traits than negative ones.

Good fill in, thanks MaryAnn!

Random observations:

Cisco's bro is a pendejo - macking on Caitlin like that? Homie's got no respect.

Does Lisa Snart's gun turn things into real gold, or fool's gold? I wish they'd addressed this, because if it's option A. our man Cisco solved alchemy overnight!

Lastly, the Bringer of Rain didn't put up much of a fight on the trip to the Flash's personal super jail. I know those FX shots ain't cheap, but c'mon folks, at least a little lightning or tornado action?

Better than some of the criticizers who have resulted to calling her racial slurs at least, but unpopular opinion or not, the overwhelming hate for Iris seems unnecessary.

I knew everything would be undone and I liked that Barry couldn't travel back in time again and that he tried. The disappointing part was that there was no real consequences to altering time, everything pretty much worked out for the better, besides the Iris thing. So it might be best to stay away from the time travel for awhile because if there are no real consequences then it will really mess up the story every time something bad happens.

It wasn't all for the better though:

  • Barry will now have some serious trust issues (rightly so) about Wells
  • Cisco was still tortured
  • Gotta take in the secondary characters' perspective now:
    • Cisco's brother now lost the ability to play the piano as well as he used to according to this timeline
    • Iris's partner is now dead instead of Cisco
    • Even more villains know Barry is the Flash
      • They even have their old and a new ray gun

It was so hard to watch Barry and Wells together, chatting and confiding in each other. Now that we, the audience knows who Wells really is and how evil he can be, it's so hard to see Barry still treat him as a mentor. I wanted Barry to keep it to himself that he went back in time, but obviously I knew he would tell Wells. And ugh watching Wells have that same conversation with Cisco was hard too! But in the end when Barry finally realized that Wells is dangerous I was so excited because I don't think I can do another episode of lovey dovey Wells! Can't wait for his cover to be blown. Anyways, i refuse to let the writers have me hate Iris. So I always try to see it thru her eyes lol. She's just in denial guys! Give her a break. She opened up to him last week because her life and her fathers life was at stack and being in that situation made her feelings come pouring out, but now that everything is back to normal she is still suppressing her feelings or whatever. I hate when shows drag out love interests, especially when the dragging out is boring and annoying. Let them be together already! Although it does look like she is pondering her feelings now? Lol.

Anyways I feel like that whole never alter the past because it will catch up to you- is going to be joes death. I mean I know we all KNOW its coming. And I am ready to cry my eyes out when it does. I kinda feel like that's when the show will throw Barry and Iris together. Which I hope they don't do it that way. So cliched. Can't wait for next week. So obsessed with this show man!

Oh and I loved when Barry told Caption Cold to go to another city...cough couch, that spin off????? So exciting.

I don't care so much about Iris, Linda and the rest, but I didn't get the idea that the show wanted us to route for Iris and Barry for the future. And after the Laurel experience at Arrow, one would say that they should know better. However, she will play the role of Barry's heartbreaker for a really long time, that's for sure. They gave her a decent boyfriend that doesn't look like it's going to become evil afte all, and he'll be Barry's friend? So no, this is just going to be there for the time being until we get in more serious Flash business and he grows into loving somebody else.

It was a powerful episode! I loved all the parallels it drew due to Barry’s jump in the past!
I loved Cisco and it was great to see Wells taking his homicidal rage on someone else than Cisco!
Iris… jeez… even thinking of her makes me wonder, Why do writers hate her character that much? They are doing everything possible for fans to hate Iris! I just don’t understand it! Why she had to tell Eddie - I never understood! Have her boyfriend against her childhood friend? Whatever writers have in mind for her feels to me more incomprehensible than time travel paradox!
Capt. Cold and Heat Wave are cool villains and it’s always a pleasure to have them in an episode. Wentworth’s and Purcell’s characters add the touch of “darkness” Flash is missing!
Very good episode! Highly entertaining!

Also - so Cisco is now essentially an alchemist? He can make a gun that literally turns things to gold? It better not be real gold, cause that just makes things silly. Snart may be in it for the adrenaline, but is his sister also an adrenaline junkie? With a gun like that anybody could happily retire. Hell, Cisco can become richer than Bruce Wayne...

Yes, they didn't really address these issues. If Lisa has a gold-producing gun that would make King Midas proud, why are they robbing a casino?

Yup :) Snart as adrenaline junkie, fair enough, but you'd think it would at least be an issue for Fire & Gold, no? Or could've at least been discussed, etc. Hell, I'd imagine people at the scene fighting over or pocketing some of that guy she 'golded' ;)

This episode was soooo stupid. I don't understand the weird kid gloves that the Flash keeps using with Captain Cold. What was up with Barry just giving up the sister hostage instead of just zipping them both off to prison Weather Wizard-style. Also unless I missed something, the episode ended more or less with a murderer knowing the secret identity of the Flash and being allowed keep on breaking the law (as long as he promises not to kill anyone). Total hangover after being drunk in love with "Out of Time"

Can't we just vote Iris off the island? She's pathetic, selfish, petty - and she literally brings out the WORST in Barry - he's literally a douche around her and about her.

I hated this episode, start to finish. It completely botched the time travel element, it made fools of everybody especially our main character, and then there was the gold gun (what?) and all the other nonsense of the replacement plot that wiped out last week's plot.

Ok. Lets point out the obvious. Last weeks episode dropped bombshell after bombshell and still managed to keep the end a surprise even though they hinted at what would happen at the end. Witch was to set up a redo episode witch could have happened any number of ways. I was expecting in the end yea all those bombs never happened. ( looking at you sleepy hollow ) Instead we had previous bombshells prevented, diverted, or replaced with more bombshells. In the end after one failed attempt to do a time warp again what we got instead of a whole day that never happened we got a whole day that happened quite different and permanent. I only really had two issues with the episode. 1. The record speed capture of the new Weather Wizard witch made perfect sense but this resulted in needing a replacement villain to make things interesting. Enter Captain Cold and company witch is great EXCEPT where were they when Weather WIzard was wrecking havoc??? Did they happen to see him and say lets sit this one out??? We will carry out our plan when he's done??? WTF. 2. Iris. I have no problems with her character in general but I would have preferred them to have kept what happened at the end of the last episode to stick. Nothing I hate more in TV shows than when they drag stupid relation issues on and on and on. Ether get together or get over it. There were other minor issues but those two were the ones that got to me the most.

The gold gun really!!! If you HAVE a gun that is basically the Midas Touch your set for life as is and how the F does it do what it does at all??? The cold gun and fire gun yea O.k. I can actually see those working but when did Cicsco figure out how to make something create gold from what exactly. I'd love to know.

I still loved the episode of course

I think everybody keeps not noticing that those things happened on different days.

Barry captured the Weather Wizard that day so many hours before he went on with the evil tide wave plan. The only reason Cisco went to Dante's b-day party was because the whole Weather Wizard situation was dealt with much faster than predicted, otherwise he would have had a reason not to go, which I think they even mentioned.

If Cisco hadn't had such a horrible day at Dante's party he would have never met up with a Barry at that bar and hence he would not have met the Golden Glider and gotten kidnapped by Captain Cold and Heatwave. I'm also thinking they wouldn't have a kidnapped Dante cause then they would be dealing with Flash trying to rescue him and they wouldn't have Cisco with 'em so they couldn't really force him to do anything. They would have thought something else up, which would have probably taken a couple more days so there's why we didn't see them on the Original Timeline. But it's the scene at the bar that shows that we're at the end of the day Barry was repeating, 'cause next we see Cisco, he's finished with the guns by morning's light.

So Barry doesn't really deal with The Rogues until the day after The Weather Wizard situation. During that day, in which we didn't know anything about the Rogues' plan, at least not on the Original Timeline, Captain Cold and Heatwave were first dealing with the mob. Again, we just didn't see that, cause we were busy with Weather Wizard.

I don't think the gun creates gold, just throws a golden stuff.
I also think the Rogues in the first timeline were taking over the Don organization but nobody knew. Then, Cisco was too busy, so they couldn't trick him. Besides, Cold likes to have all under control, he would never begin a plan when a metahuman is creating havoc. Too many things could go wrong.

I didn't think it was much of an episode it felt clunky and forced like Barry going after Iris like that I know how much he loves her but I can't accept that he would be that callous about Linda to ask Iris out immediately after dumping her. Barry is a lot of things but he isn't a douchebag.

1. Fucking Iris. UGH. WHY?!

2. Why is Cisco's entire family such fucking asshole douchebags? He's an adorable, super-sweet, nerdy, genius engineer and they treat him like shit? Assholes. The whole lot of them.

3. Omg fucking Iris. I hate her sooo much.

4. Barry was a complete thoughtless jerk! Way to completely ignore Iris's relationship and be an asshole. So not like Barry.

5. Why is Iris alive? She literally needs someone to call her on her shit and then an impending disaster before she'll admit her feelings. Until then, she's content to suck Eddie's face while Barry worships her and groves at her feet. The literal worst.

Because the writers are writing her horribly. She's useless (as in she adds nothing to the show and if her character didn't exist she wouldn't be missed), she's annoying (like I said above; she rejected Barry then actively began sabotaging his relationship with Linda almost immediately. Flirts with him blatantly in front of Linda and Eddie; Barry is guilty of that too. And she is perfectly content to stay with Eddie whilst simultaneously sabotaging Barry and Linda and watching Barry fawn all over her until she feels like finally admitting her feelings. She's playing games. Don't play with someone else's feelings because you're unsure of yours.)

Anddd... Women do this all the time. There would be no story if there wasn't a game of cat & mouse. Elena on The Vampire Diaries gets to f**k a set of brothers and go back and forth between them at will and no one says she's annoying or disparages her for it. Queen Mary on Reign is a married woman and in an adulterous relationship with another man that could potentially lead to her beheading yet she persists anyway with her husbands knowledge and way before that when she was just betrothed to him she was messing around and being flirty with his half brother like it was nothing. And right now Felicity on Arrow is doing the same thing with Oliver & Ray. So don't give Iris sh!t when everyone does it, like its not a normal formula for this type of show and like they're aren't others who are doing worse.

"Elena on The Vampire Diaries gets to f**k a set of brothers and go back and forth between them at will and no one says she's annoying or disparages her for it."

Do you read the comments for TVD at all? EVERYONE hates Elena! Myself included.

"I basically rolled my eyes every time Elena acted so dumb"

"Any form of Elena is annoying."

"Can Enzo do one thing RIGHT in his pathetic life, feed Elena cure and throw her from the bridge?"

"Elena didn't try even once throughout this entire episode to make it all about herself. That's got to be a record of some kind also she's been acting like a decent human being/vampire this last couple of episodes. I'm impressed."

"Shove that cure down Elena's throat. She's fucking annoying."

And those are just from the mist recent episode. I, along with a multitude of other people, relish in whining about Elena every week because she's annoying as f*ck. I've been sacrificing unicorns every week since episode 1 hoping Elena would die horribly. You're literally preaching to the choir! Mary's current behavior annoys the sh*t outta me as well. I don't agree with Felicity as she has clearly gave Ollie an ultimatum before completely moving towards Ray, she told Ollie that she has moved on, and she has made no passes at him. So, yes, I hate Iris but in my defense I also hate Elena from TVD, Barbara from Gotham, Juliette from Grimm, Katrina from Sleepy Hollow, Sasha from The Walking Dead, Laurel from Arrow and so so so many more. I am an equal opportunity hater. Btw, just because other female characters engage in this same behavior doesn't make Iris any less annoying. They're all annoying. Even still, Iris being unsure of her feelings about Barry is not a free pass to send him mixed messages. If you're unsure of your feelings than keep your flirting and touching and opinions about his relationship to yourself until you are sure.

I told you so, but you just didn't listen. The moment Barry went back in time I knew everything would be undone, and that they only did all that stuff because they knew none of it would count. How could so many of you have not seen this coming? How long have you been watching TV for crying out loud?

I don't think anyone was duped. We all knew that Cisco's death, Harrison's reveal, and the Iris stuff weren't going to count, but I think people expected a bigger fallout from the time traveling. Besides the Rouges learning Barry's secret, nothing major happened to replace the things they undid.

Who didn't listen? A minority or most posters here? I know many are clueless, but also, many of us knew most of "Out of Time" was going to be undone. Anyway, this episode was bad, the whole Iris-Barry relationship is a trainwreck, Iris is one of the worst characters on television and Barry acted liked a jerk. And Barry letting Cold get away was even worse, you don't let a dangerous criminal like that free or tell him to go to another city, WTF!!

I knew these producers were going to ruin the Flash like they have done with Arrow with their bad writing and nonsensical crap. The question is how bad will it get, time will tell of course.

I knew they'd undo everything, but I was still disappointed in how they handled Barry and Iris. Their story could be good, it could be cute, but they're just not writing it well at all. Anyway, I'm happy Cisco is alive.

Also, yay Peyton List!

As Robin obviously would say, "Holy reset/rewind button, Batman!" Way to defuse a nice climax bomb you planted last episode, writers! That looked more like one of those Silver Age "imaginary stories" in which all sorts of crazy ship would happen, but nothing would count. Oh, well, maybe we had a glimpse of season 5 or 6, or 7...

And damn it... I can't help it, but I still like Dr. Wells. I still keep seeing good in him. What the heck is wrong with me? The guy is good! And the actor is doing a terrific job.

Well, if we had to have a redo, there's no-one better than Captain Cold to do it with. He and Lincoln (sorry, I can only call Fire Lincoln, and nothing else), steal every scene they are in it. Even with a few words, Fire reveals to be his amazing self. And the addition of Peyton List, that girl from "Tomorrow People" was a nice touch, but she's not in the same league as her brothers. Because, yes, I can only think of Cold and Fire as brothers. What can I do? Prison Break caused me such a lingering effect.

If the girl's weapon makes gold, why doesn't she keep "golding" stuff and get rich?

So, Cisco, is a well-renowned engineer/physicist/whatever with a dozen PhDs (or something) and his handsome brother plays some stuff on the piano and the parents like the lazy brother who lives in their basement and doesn't work? I don't get that.

I agree with the MaryAnn. Iris and Barry are the worst together. So, Iris says she loves Barry and now with the silly excuse of a new, altered time-line she takes everything back? I know it's not her fault, but really I blame her. it's like deep inside she knows exactly what she said and only wants to torture Barry. She just wants Barry to worship her. And Barry, you stupid idiot, she said she loved you because a tsunami was going to destroy the city completely. It was an end-of-the-world situation. How can you expect her to think the same now, during a boring conversation over a silly cup of coffee? And oh, boy, I do miss Linda already. She was the best thing that could've happened to Barry. If Barry had half a brain, he would've married Linda and kept iris as his little sister. Problem solved.

finally, and this is from last episode. So, Barry goes super fast, sees a future version of himself, which disappears. Then he goes about his business. In the end of the episode, he sees a past version of himself that also disappears. What happened to these other versions? Lost in time? Merged with Barry? Formed their own Alternate Time-Lines Barry Allen Alternate Version Club? Are they happily or unhappily living in their own deranged timelines? Shut up, brain!

"I can't help it, but I still like Dr. Wells. I still keep seeing good in him. What the heck is wrong with me? The guy is good! And the actor is doing a terrific job."

Wells or rather Eobard Thawne, since that's his real name, is a sociopath, a murderer... but Tom Cavanagh is doing a great job, so it's ok to love the actor. ;-)

On the flaws, that's the main problem with these shows, plenty of nonsensical stuff and bad writing, that's why they're not going to win any Emmys or be among the best of the best like Game of Thrones and company. The best we can hope for, is to be entertained while turning our brains off to avoid more frustration, much easier said than done of course.

Meh. It was all right. I was really really hoping that Snart would have captured Iris and then he and the fire guy could have taken turns burning and then freezing the body until there is nothing else. I don't get it, she is the worst character in the series. It is an easy fix, just have someone lop her head off. Have the space time continuum crash on her head, have Wells realize that she is holding Barry back and has to kill her. I don't care how it happens, someone just kill her.

The rest was all right. Pretty standard fare for Flash, nothing really to write home about.

Also, I don't get the final talk, I don't see how Barry is supposed to be intimidating to anyone. Someone please throw Barry in a gym, I think he is getting thinner.

The problem is, Iris and Barry are one of DC Comics main couples, so they're supposed to be together sooner or later. They also ruined the Green Arrow-Black Canary relationship on Arrow, it seems these producers have problems writing couples and stories without plotholes. But hey, Berlanti & co wrote the Green Lantern movie, so is not really a surprise, they're very mediocre as writers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_lantern_movie

Now I have no idea about comic lore and legend. I would presume that Iris wasn't his surrogate/adopted sister like it is in the show. For me that is weird. I would also presume that the comic wrote the character of Iris far better than what this show has/is and will continue to do. She is a horrible, Laurel at her worst character.

Also, since he is so infatuated with his kind of sister, they could always kill her off and then he finds another girl named Iris that isn't his sister that he could potentially have a relationship with. I mean, he transferred his feelings for his mother to this Iris, he could transfer his feelings for Iris to another Iris. One that makes more sense.

Finding another girl named Iris West in order to stick to canon might be difficult and would definitely be creepy. I can imagine Joe's face when Barry introduces her at a dinner or something.

About the same level of creepiness as being physically attracted to you "adopted" sister. As for Joe's reaction, since his reaction to Barry wasn't "what the hell is wrong with you, I raised you as brother and sister" I am willing to bet that he would continue to not be bothered by it. Personally I think they have ruined the character and should just find someone else. Just because Iris is someone in the cannon doesn't mean she needs to be in the show.

Decent episode but last weeks was so good it was never going to top it. The villains in The Flash, The Rogues especially are so over the top cheesey and cartoonish in contrast to The Arrow, so it is a hit or miss with me with them episode to episode just because I prefer things to be more dark and serious but still it isn't the worst thing I guess.
