The X Factor contestants have been whittled down to the top four, who will battle it out for the winning spot.

The top four acts are remarkably balanced, with judges Guy Sebastian, Natalie Imbruglia, Kyle Sandilands and Ronan Keating each retaining a contestant from their individual categories.

The two acts up for elimination were both from Guy Sebastian's category -- his refusal to vote against one of his acts resulted in a tie, leaving the final decision to public vote.

Viewers chose to keep girl group Mahogany in the competition, sending Luke and Joel packing.

Mahogany now faces Altiyan Childs, Sally Chatfield and Andrew Lawson when The X Factor continues this Sunday, November 14 at 7.30pm.

For the first time, the top four will perform on two songs each, choosing from a variety of number one hits from around the world, including music by Coldplay, Frank Sinatra, AC/DC, Christina Aguilera, Bon Jovi and Westlife.

Check out Luke and Joel's final performance -- it's probably for the best that their time has come to an end...

What do you think of the top four? Who should win?
