The Internet Wants You to Watch Jared Padalecki as MacGyver (and Other Unaired Pilots) (VIDEO)

Here's your daily dose of procrastination fuel. DailyMotion has a decent size archive featuring unaired and unsold pilots ranging anywhere from the 1950s to the mid-2000s, and it's full of some pretty fantastic gems, like the Buffy animated pilot and 2003's Young MacGyver starring a pre-Supernatural Jared Padalecki as Clay MacGyver, the nephew of Richard Dean Anderson's badass agent in the original series. It's worth watching if only so that the next time you want to complain about how long Supernatural has been on, you can count your blessings that we're not staring down Season 14 of the adventures of Clay MacGyver instead.

Is that opening music a rip-off of the Alias theme, or...?

Given Monday's news that X-Men: Apocalypse star Lucas Till will star in CBS's potential MacGyver reboot, this discovery feels particularly noteworthy despite the fact the archive has been live for three years. In the reboot, Till's MacGyver is a 20-something who's been recruited to join a clandestine government organization in which he'll have to use bubble gum, a paperclip, and a shoelace to save the world from nuclear disaster. Or something.

Jared Padalecki is one of the worst actors on TV today. He is just truly horrible. There are high school drama students more believable. It just goes to show that success in Hollywood is not always about talent. It's about being in the right place at the right time with the right script and the right chemistry. Otherwise, Padalecki would be flipping burgers in Austin.

"It just goes to show that success in Hollywood is not always about talent. It's about being in the right place at the right time with the right script and the right chemistry."

True, except that's the case with so many other jobs and situations in life.

You seem to have quite an issue with Jared, but I don't see any solid arguments backing up that claim. After watching Supernatural for so long, I can only disagree. I have seen a good range and a proper ability to convey emotions from this guy.

It might not be Supernatural, but pie is still a key story element.

These all appear to be shows that have been floating around the Internet for a while.

I finally managed to see the unaired Wonder Woman pilot with Adrienne Palicki--NOPE, you missed nothing. The cops want her to turn over some guy she caught , and she says--I swear, "He'll just lawyer up if I do."

Interesting. Some of these did air -- networks used to reclassify their unsold pilots as "specials" and run them during the summer. They stopped around 1993 or so. I wish they still did it.

The Fearless pilot is there -- WB actually ran promos for that before shelving it.

Aside from the later "leaked" episodes, pretty much all of the early recordings are from those airings. These aren't official sources.

I'd recommend The Danger Team. It's a show about clay animated characters interacting with the real world. June Foray, the voice of Granny, voices one of the characters. (I also think I know who the original recorder was.)

Ugh. I saw the Wonder Woman 2011 pilot on Dailymotion not too long ago and it convinced me to stay away from these sorts of things. These poor actors should be thankful they get any work at all after some of these.

Cheers - can't be a rip-off of the Alias theme when it was made before the Alias theme - maybe the other way round?

Theme song of Alias was composed by creator of the show J.J. Abrams. He also composed the theme song for Lost. I don't think he was affiliated with Young MacGyver at the time so this must be a coincidence. It's not worth it to turn this into a copyright infringement lawsuit because the pilot of Young MacGyver never aired.
If the show was picked up then it would be a whole different story.

It's possible that someone had the rights to the theme song and used it as a temporary substitute. Had the show actually aired they would have paid for a proper theme song.
