The L Word loses one

The L Word is getting all Twin Peaks on us for its sixth and final season. Showtime has announced that the drama--centered on a group of lesbian friends and set in Los Angeles--will be killing off one of its main characters at the start of its January 18 premiere. We know who the unlucky victim is, so read no further if you're afraid of spoilers!

Somebody's gonna diii-iie!

OK, here's the deal: Jenny Schecter is going to die! The body of the much-maligned character (played by Mia Kirshner) will be found floating in a swimming pool during the first moments of the premiere, and how she got there is anyone's guess. Accident? Suicide? Murder? If so, who's the killer? These questions and more will be answered, but it may take all season to get to the bottom of this mystery.

Fortunately for Jenny fans, the brooding young writer will be making some calculated visits from beyond the grave. Producers have promised frequent flashback scenes of Jenny at her not-dead-yet best, and we imagine those scenes will prove instrumental in the solving of her case.

So what's your take on this strange turn of events? Are you sad to see Jenny go, or is she finally getting what she deserves? Is The L Word jumping the proverbial shark, or was this a stroke of writerly genius? Jump into the comments section and let us know!

The L Word returns to Showtime on Sunday, January 18, at 9 p.m.

They should just have killed her off in the second season when she started to REALLY get annoying. :p Dana should have stayed!

First of all, I didn't want to know this, but darned, went ahead and clicked on the news links, anyway. Stupid me. The photo was enough to reveal who it would be... Oh well, I'll still love watching the new season, no matter what. And yes, Jenny does deserve her fate. She hasn't exactly rocked my socks during the last couple of seasons. ;-) Looking forward to next Monday!

Shane and Jenny - that doesnt works at all for me! Espacially cos I dont liked jenny anymore in the last seasons! In my opinion she was just annoying! But Im curious who killed her - I'm almost certain that it wasnt an accident! And I heared somethig that Alice spinn-off propably will take place in a prison - but that I'm totally not sure off, and i actually hope that information is wrong, an lesbian in prison - boaring and not a new idear!Looking forward to see the new season..... cant wait! noooooo jenny is one of the MAJOR characters in the first seasons of the l word, yes, she's been a beeyotch lately but so was helena in the beginning, and tina at some point or other. killing off characters is ok, but literally killing jenny is a bad idea, suicide would be ok, she's a writer, a visionary, she can take it but not being killed by someone else. is this the l word or CSI?

I liked the Jenny character for the first season- then she went and got cocky with her narcissistic suicidal tendancies, then the writing fame, and the obnoxious attitude surrounding her movie deal (that crap was the hardest to watch)! From about the middle of Season 2 on, I was actually hoping someone would kill her off! No props to Mia Kirshner, who plays this character as whiney and snivelly as can be, and it has bugged me for ages. But I put up with her sh*t for the sake of the rest of the cast. I love all the other characters.
Personally, the "murder mystery plot" is a bit inappropriate for a show like The L Word, but if it gets Jenny off the screen for the majority of the season then so be it! Frankly, I'll be sad to see the show end after all these Long, Lovely years.moreless

I've never liked Jenny but props to Mia Kirshner's acting. I really can't remember a season that I liked what was going on with her character. I'll be glad to see her go for sure.

Actually I'm happy to see her go- her character was an annoying, whiny pain in the butt!

OMG, I thought I was the only one that hated Jenny. She was such a pompus little jerk last season. I am happy to see her die.

I always enjoyed watching Jenny oh well sounds like an intresting season.

Considering how pompous her character was last season, I'm not shocked that someone would kill her. Now let's hope her identical looking twin cousin doesn't show up to try and find the killer, LOL. I do have to say though, knowing this makes me actually want to tune in, so maybe it'll pay off.

Her character was always badly flawed, selfish, whining and spoiled. But she was an interesting foil for her better friends, and played very well by Mia Kirshner. If they had to kill off one of them, she'd be the one most people would like to see go, but perhaps not in the best interests of tension and drama for the series.donelson

I've got mixed feelings on this, i never liked her character but she was the main reason for the show. I mean it was based on her finding herself and transitioning into the lesbian lifestyle! Not too sad to see her go though and im pretty stoked to see lucy lawless's cameo!

Great, I used to feel sorry for her and then she changed after the fame, good riddance!

This is going to be weird, as much as I hate Jenny, she is the star of the show in my opinion. The shows first episode opened with her, and season 2 was all about her rape flashbacks, and the les girls movie was her idea, like I said I hate her but she is kind of the main character of the show and I know a lot of people will say that its Bette and Tina but that's my opinion

    Dec 07, 2008
  • Jamin_Jamin

Maybe they should all die on the last episode of the series, big accident or something. This would help gaurantee no movie deal :)

At least it wasn't Tasha or Alice or Tina or Bette!!!!!!!

This is going to be weird. I really don't want to watch in flashbacks because then you know what's going to happen.

  • londoncherry

yay! why wasn't she killed 3 seasons ago?

    Dec 06, 2008
  • shoegal83

being the last season of the show, they needed something to get people in to watch, and something to focus on instead of the Tian/Bette saga that has been the centre of the show for the last 5 seasons. It won't feel like she is gone if they do the flashbacks right, and it will spice up the show; they have never done anything like this before.

Never been a Jenny fan anyway. Tim was my guy and she did him wrong. Buh-bye! Too bad its the final season though *tear*

Thank God! I was such a huge Jenny fan when the show started but over the course of the past five season, her character has gone to pot. I'm very much looking forward to her demise. I think this murder mystery element could make for a fun last season. Die, Jenny, Die!!!!!!PS. BeachfrontGlass, I totally agree that she should have stayed lost at sea way back when. It would have saved me from watching her character decline into the despicable person she has become.

Cant say I'm heartbroken - Jenny's the character I love to hate. So I'll be kinda glad to see her go, finally! Just irritating that one by one they're getting rid of all the old characters

Thank you, God. Jenny is by far the most irritating character on TV. There will be no shortage of suspects and hopefully this is all a bit of a Sunset Boulevard homage, which could be fun.
