The Secret Circle and Hart of Dixie Get Full Seasons

H8R must be so embarrassed! The CW has granted full-season orders to Hart of Dixie and The Secret Circle, ensuring that both dramas will stick around for the entire season. Each series will extend its first season to 22 episodes. The announcement came just after word leaked earlier today that Ringer has been picked up for a full season.

None of The CW's new shows have earned very impressive ratings so far, but there's an old saying in the industry: "Good enough for The CW!" The most recent episode of The Secret Circle bewitched just under 2 million viewers and grabbed a 0.8 rating. Hart of Dixie didn't do quite as well, drawing 1.75 million and another 0.8 last week. Ringer registered eerily similar numbers, with 1.72 million viewers and a third 0.8 rating.

The Secret Circle is based on a book series by L.J. Smith (who also wrote the Vampire Diaries novels) and follows a coven of teen witches in Chance Harbor, Washington. Hart of Dixie stars Rachel Bilson as a heart surgeon (for realz) who leaves New York City to take over a medical practice in Alabama.

That makes three dramas picked up for full seasons so far, all of them belonging to The CW. The network has no more decisions to make involving its new fall shows, as it's already canceled the reality show H8R, and with good reason.

Hart of Dixie was a reasonably popular pick in our TV.com Dead Pool, with 64 picks. You were more confident in The Secret Circle, which only eight of you selected.

I hope that if the CW could smallville for as long as they did then they can keep Hart of Dixie and The Secret Circle. So please just let the shows run and the people will show you and these are to show's that are great for families to watch.

I think I picked Secret Circle in deadpool for the pickup! But I also chose Hart of Dixe to be cancelled... speaking of, really CW? An entire season?!

I did the exact same thing. NBC and CW screwed my whole game up. Hart of Dixie AND Whitney? Really network execs????

Hart of Dixie is this year's Hellcats. It will only last one season just you wait. Good news for Secret Circle!

Well, there goes my shot at winning the Dead Pool. Why does Rachel Bilson have to be so cute and watchable? I'd given up on Ringer after the first episode, it was garbage. I've temporarily given up on The Secret Circle, but I might try to catch-up sometime soon. I actually quite like Rachel Bilson... erm... I mean Hart Of Dixie (whatever), so although I would have rather won the Dead Pool, I think my chances were already incredibly slim so I'll just be content with watching Rachel once a week!

I like both shows so am glad they got picked up for a full season. Watch the shows people they will grow in you.

Hart of Dixie, really?! Ugh. I now have no chance of winning the Dead Pool. I'll see you in hell, CW.

I would love to see The Secret Circle get back to a 1.0 and above it. I'm not surprised about the back 9 orders for any of these series, but I would think that Ringer and Dixie may be in danger of ending after that, a la Hellcats.

I stopped watching Secret Circle and will not return but then again I also do not watch Vamp Diaries, too shallow and crappy writing.

I've yet to watch Hart of Dixie on the good 'ol DVR, but I know I'll like anything with Rachel Bilson as she was one of the best things about The O.C. It looks like a cute/harmless show anyway. It's a no brainer that The Secret Circle was picked up even though it isn't (at least right now) nearly as exciting as The Vampire Diaries.

I know one of the three dramas will be canceled after the season ends (my money's on Hart of Dixie), but good on The CW for giving all the freshmen dramas a chance.

I *heart* Hart of Dixie. I think it's a really cute show. Not impressive or anything, just a little heartwarming television.

@MisfitChicks: yeah, charming is the word I was looking for :) I'm really glad it got renewed!

Glad they were both picked up. Watched the first episode of Hart of Dixie more out of curiosity and kept going back to watch each new episode. Not sure what it is about it that I like, but there's something there. Love Secret Circle but hope they get a little more "magicky".

Hart Of Dixie is corny, but kinda charming in its way. We'll see where it goes.

There's no way The Secret Circle wouldn't have got picked up for a full season ;) Hart of Dixie on the other hand... Well, kudos to both.

I knew it would get picked up, hence it was my pick for renewal in the Deadpool. Won't up my score too much, but oh well.

Glad for the Secret Circle, don't care about Hart of Dixie

I'm glad The Secret Circle got picked full season after last week's episode where they really kicked it into gear

Hart of Dixie is ok, i just wish they'd stop with the Alabama sterotypes, seeing as how i'm from and still live in Alabama and i'm not some stupid hick.. but if the show continues, it needs a better research team, the episode where Zoe was riding on the float inspired by University of Alabama, they had the wrong team mascot. Alabama is an elephant, Auburn which is their rival, is an eagle lol

Hey, does anyone know if CW is going to replace the now cancelled reality show H8R with another prime time series?? e.g, one tree hill??
Reply
Flag
Not sure but on the CW network's website they have two other reality shows held for "midseason." I'd bet one of those will replace H8R as the studio execs probably already have some plan for One Tree Hill

Anyone stupid enough to pick TSC for their dead pool deserves to lose

Most excellent news - I like both of the series - The Secret Circle and Hart of Dixie. :-)

The CW also has a better track record than the other networks of giving new shows a chance to develop.

In other words, they have less money to spend on prepping back-up choices, so they're stuck with what they bought the first time.

Veronica Mars was 8 times the show any of these are, and they killed it after only one year on the CW.

If memory serves, Everwood did better in the ratings than Mars, yet they killed Everwood to keep Mars going another season.

Actually, they killed "Everwood" to give "7th Heaven" another season even though the 10th had been billed as its "Final Season". They didn't realize that the jump in viewership (to about 3 times the average weekly basis) for the final episode of that season was only DUE TO THE FACT that it had billed AS the final season. When they renewed it for another year, the viewers just left again. Also "Everwood" and "Veronica Mars" were both super fantastic shows, I miss them both.

I still think NBC, etc. still have worse track records, though. I liked Veronica Mars, too.

Which network has the worst track record doesn't matter because i will NEVER forgive FOX for canceling Firefly.

Whatever. None of these shows are as good as One Tree Hill so I really don't care.

Hey do u know, if cw plans to bring one tree hill now instead of mid seasons? ... now that H8R is cancelled?

Ehh...alright.

"The Secret Circle" was an expected pick up as it a) had the highest premiere numbers for any CW show and 2) dovetails nicely with the demo group for "The Vampire Diaries". "Ringer", well, it is the CW, also I watch it because I can. (Neither were on my Dead Pool. Yaysies for me.)
